I just have to say.... I watched and attempted several videos before finding yours... when you said the "P" & the "6" that REALLY stuck in how my brain works and I just made my first scarf ever!! so thank you so much! :)
Finally! A video on how to do a single stitch scarf on a loom! Everyone does the double stitch which ends up with a stockinette styled scarf! Thanks for sharing this with the rest of us!
There is no such thing as "the single stitch" or "the double stitch". Perhaps you are referring to single knitting (knitting on one row of pegs only) as opposed to double/rake knitting (knitting across between two rows of pegs). The stitch shown in this video is in fact the basic loom knitting e-wrap stitch, known to needle knitters as the twisted stocking stitch (twisted stockinette in US terminology). There are absolutely LOADS of video tutorials on UA-cam showing how to do the basic e-wrap stitch, so I don't know why you seem to think there aren't.

Thank you for this simple video. I wanted to teach my daughter who is blind how to use a loom and your video worked by making it simple enough to allow her to make a scarf on her own. 😊
Pinned by Hillary Craig amy greenlee 6 years ago I just have to say.... I watched and attempted several videos before finding yours... when you said the "P" & the "6" that REALLY stuck in how my brain works and I just made my first scarf ever!! so thank you so much! :)
Thank you SO much for this. I work with special needs residents in a group home. I gave one of them a couple of looms and lots of yarn for Christmas. His yearly goal now is to make 1 scarf a month and charge $10 for them. He is wayyy ahead of his goal and is now teaching ME how to do it with a loom I bought for myself!
After several videos and being quite frustrated, I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of this first time project. The P's and the 6's and also explaining having the straight line in the back. You are a wonderful teacher!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm new to loom crochet and this has to be the best beginner's video I've seen. I can't wait to start making scarves 🙂
Omg. I appreciate your video. No insult to anyone, but thank you for showing this in basic and common sense form. 6 and P i totally get. Awesome explanations for little one's🙌😊👍🏿
This is one of the oldest videos I found, but this is by far the best beginner loom video out there in my opinion. I just wanted a basic easy stitch. Some beginner videos make it so complicated for ones like me with absolutely no skill. What's a slip knot..haha..I agree, the simplicity of the "P" and "6" made it click, and it also let me hold my loom and add yarn in an upward and downward motion. My lines are finally looking straight. If it doesn't turn out its not your fault :) Trying to work on the tension being even! Thank you!
this was a great video, I loved It and how she took the time to explain each step. This was the video I was looking for. Thank you so much, need more like this.
Your video was marvelous darling but I have a question and that is can I use this same technique to make a blanket using the longer loom? I am new to this but really want to try your way out. Please, please help me out. Thanks and continue making your videos
Sylvia Johnson yes, you could you this technique to make a blanket. I'm not sure where to purchase a loom that large but making a simple one wouldn't be too difficult, just hard to manage the width and weight. Maybe clamping it to a table while you work.
Yes, I think you absolutely could. I would use a stiffer yarn and you would just shorten the size of your project. You may only need 6-8 pegs depending on the desired size. Good luck on your project. I'd love to hear how it turns out!
So this is just a single stitch? I’m working on a smaller loom doing the Figure 8 which is really beautiful but want a good stitch to use on my biggest straight loom to start a blanket with recycled Cashmere! I think this will do fine ! Thank you and I’ll hit subscribe!
Yes, this was created to teach the most simple way to use a loom. Your blanket sounds lovely! It will make for a nice light weight throw blanket. Good luck!
I would finish a row and then cut and tie a new color onto the end. Leave enough of the yarn 2-3 inches at the end of the knot (both colors) and weave then in and out of the existing scarf so they disappear.
What kind of yarn can be used for this single knitting? By the way, that does not seem too difficult. I'll try it after I finish the double knitting project I'm working on... Thank you.. 😊😊😊
Well, I attempted your method, which I like but unfortunately my end result was a curled scarf.. This method was new to me as I didn't know that you could use the single row to knit a scarf, thank you for teaching me something I didn't know!
Mine rolls too. If you use both rows of your loom (zig zag) it will help because your scarf will be thicker. Unfortunately this thinner style will roll. Sorry. 😕
i am new to the whole loom knitting thing. I made a hat on a circular loom years ago, but this is my first time ever making a scarf and using a rectangular loom. How long is the one you made?
I am. I've got it down, but the only thing I am having trouble with is the end peg gets messed up somehow. do you wrap around the end pegs once or twice ? what is this type of stitch called? I would love to know how to do other stitches and make other things. Do you have a website or social media site?
Shannon Meck when I change direction to go back down the loom it does loop once more around the end peg. You will have 2 loops around each peg (total) watch the video at about the 3:00 mark. I am not very skilled in knitting in crocheting so my skills are pretty basic. I do have Instagram @capture.create.explore but it's more wood, craft, photography, home improvement stuff. ☺
You could use two strands. Just be sure you add two rows (your two colors) and pull over two loops each time. (So a total 4 strands on each peg before you pull over) Also don't wrap the pegs too tight or it will be difficult to pull over the pegs.
Thanks for the reply. I probably will never need TWO strands since I can't seem to conquer using one strand. I know the video is made for a six year old and I am 78, but I just can't get the loops to stay on the pegs for the first row and then can't get the loops over the pegs! Thanks again for answering so promptly.
We all have to start somewhere. 😊 try watching the video and pause at each step if it helps. If there is something specific that's hard to do maybe I can help you through it.
This single stitch style will roll, unfortunately It is just too thin. A few things that can help is to make your scarf more loose by not wrapping your pegs tightly. Also, try a thicker yarn and use the same steps using a zig zag pattern instead of single side of the loom. I hope that helps!
It will roll a bit, especially if you tend to wrap the yarn tightly. If you use both sides of your loom (zig zag back and forth) then the thickness of the scarf will help it not to curl.
I wanted too say it. It makes me irritated. I have a nervous condition. I don't listen too radio or things like that. I tolerate UA-cam well usual because no background noise.
I really want too watch it all but the background might as well be a screaming crowd. I don't know what it's saying and I can't concentrate on your. Wish you'd do this again with no nose and please get closer. I even enlarged it but it wasn't good enough

Glad you learned something new. The double row will curl less but this a great project to learn the basic idea of the loom. Thanks for the feedback.
If you feed yarn through a wide straw or biro tube, its even easier to work yarn 😊
Hi once again I am still havenig roll issues followed your video but the longer it gets the more it rolls on both sides Help
Mine rolls too. If you use both rows of your loom (zig zag) it will help because your scarf will be thicker. Unfortunately this thinner style will roll. Sorry. 😕
what size yarn did you use?
the #4 Medium yarn. I'd recommend sticking between a 2 and a 4 for the Knifty Knitters
i am new to the whole loom knitting thing. I made a hat on a circular loom years ago, but this is my first time ever making a scarf and using a rectangular loom. How long is the one you made?
Shannon Meck that's great! I hope you're enjoying the process. This scarf is about 5 1/2 feet long.
I am. I've got it down, but the only thing I am having trouble with is the end peg gets messed up somehow. do you wrap around the end pegs once or twice ? what is this type of stitch called? I followed this and my scarf edges rolled up. What did I do wrong?! 😩
This single stitch style will roll, unfortunately It is just too thin. A few things that can help is to make your scarf more loose by not wrapping your pegs tightly. Also, try a thicker yarn and use the same steps using a zig zag pattern instead of single side of the loom. I hope that helps!

thank you I forgot how to cast off.
Now I know. Thanks
ok been following this but how do you keep it from rolling up on sides??
It will roll a bit, especially if you tend to wrap the yarn tightly. If you use both sides of your loom (zig zag back and forth) then the thickness of the scarf will help it not to curl.
@@HillaryCraig wow thank you for the quick response ya thought that might be it

the #4 Medium in this tutorial. anything between a 2 and 4 will work.

britsluver probably Mercy Me or Newsboys Radio on Pandora
The stitch is called an ewrap.
