And now the gymnasts look like they should be in WWE. Nadia was just amazing and so were the other gymnasts of that time. Great to look at, wonderful lines and oh so flexible and very very strong now gymnastics has gone to the dogs.
She looks... dissapointed! The thing about Nadia never smiling happened after Montréal, she smiled at Montréal but after that it seemed she was never really happy again. Certainly having to live up to such great expectations must've been really hard and took out the joy of getting a perfect score.

I never thought the floor was her best peice if iam honest. prefare her on the beam or bars. i dont think she was an amazing tumbler but she still had that class about her.
Tumbling today is on spring loaded floors, which wasn't in vogue until 1980. The springy floors allow for MUCH greater height and MUCH greater safety. This allows constant practicing of much harder tricks. Even so, Nadia did a double back on what amounted to a wrestling mat!! I she had today's floors, and could practice on them; they couldn't practice much on the floor back then, too dangerous they used foam pits), she could easily do double twisting double back.
Sólo muy pocas personas pueden entender, lo que realmente es la concentración y la disciplina en este deporte. Nadia necesitaba controlar las emociones para poder realizar semejantes ejecuciones.
Pues más que nada era un deporte muy político en ese entonces, el dictador de Rumanía puso mucho peso en Nadia, era de esperarse que tuviera una reacción así, no era disciplina, era una víctima más del régimen de aquel entonces

@garyj79 She was 17 but I agree the dance could have been more mature. Still it was better than what she did at '78 Worlds. The Romanian choreography was atrocious for the most part. Imo only Teodora Ungureanu could make it look good.
Do you have any idea how much endurance a floor routine demands? I was out of breath at the end of my routines even when I was just a level 5. If she didn't eat or DRINK enough for weeks, or even a day, she would not be able to make it through this demanding routine. NO WAY.
@desglacons she wasn't 'in shape'. She starved herself and didn't eat or drink anything for weeks before competition. It was very far from 'natural' and it scares me to think this body is anything close to natural.
Ela sabia do q era capaz, estava bem tranquila sobre os elementos então não ficou surpresa com sua apresentação q na época era um 10. Sem falar de que Nadia nunca foi uma pessoa realmente simpática ou carismática, nem interagir com o público direito ela interagia, era ela com ela (tanto pelo regime em q era submetida mas tbm por sua personalidade provavelmente).

1979 foi melhor ano dela, no ano seguinte ela parecia desanimada e teve menos dificuldade e graciosidade, sua dança havia melhorado muito de 1976 para cá, mas em 1980 parecia a tudo havia sido perdido e era como se ela nunca tivesse dançado antes. Talvez a retirada do piano tenha causado isso!

Nadia was excellent obviously (ok maybe not in 78 cos she looked out of shape) but though her tumbling skils were good, her dance skills were not up to the standard of some of the russians.......quite frankly some of her dance here is odd and/or too immature for her age (she was 18ish here wasnt she)

Exactamente. Nadia es un ejemplo de disciplina. La euforia, no ayuda para nada, cuando se trata de mantener la concentración.
