Singers in order of appearance: Ben Metzner alias Prinz Hodenherz (Prince Scrotumheart) - Feuerschwanz and D'artagnan Peter Henrici alias Hauptman Feuerschwanz - Feuerschwanz Melissa Bonny - Ad Infinitum and Darkside of the Moon Jörg Roth alias Alea der Bescheidene (the humble) - Saltatio Mortis Thomas Winkler - formerly Gloryhammer, now Angus McSix The silly names come from their origins in parody medieval music. They have become a little more serious over time but not so serious to lose their origins ;)
Untot im Drachenboot (Undead on the Dragon Boat) yes please! Johanna plays a hurdy gurdy, the German name Drehleier translates to cranking lyre/ turning lyre. Thomas Winkler (green armor guy) from Switzerland was the lead singer of the british power metal band Gloryhammer from 2012 till 2021, under the stage name Angus McFife. He now has his own band Angus McSix which is also his new stage name. Saltatio Mortis is another German medieval folk rock & metal band, in this case represented by vocalist Alea der Bescheidene (Alea The Humble), the guy in black with the nice beard. The two fighting ladys, Mieze Musch-Musch (Kitty Puss-Puss) and Mieze Myu (Kitty Myow, Jenny from The Dark Side Of The Moon) are Feuerschwanz' regular dancers/ stage & video performers. For the video to Highlander, they took lessons from a stunt coordinator/ close combat instructor specialized in sword fighting!
That zombie song is Untot im Drachenboot (The English version is called Death on the Dragonship). They just released an album called Warriors where they have 2 new songs and 10 of their old song translated into english. The album is a celebration for their 20th anniversary. Over the last few years they did some amazing covers as well. [I highly recommend: Valhalla Calling, Ding, Hier Kommt Alex, Gimme gimme gimme, I see Fire, Dragostae Din Tei & Blinding Lights] but their bread and butter is the Medieval folk metal songs like Memenro Mori, Das Elfte Gebot, Bastard of Asgard, SGFRD Dragonslayer, Rohirrim, Krampus, Meister Der Minne, Kampfzweg (They realesed a video for Wardwarf - the english version) & Im Bauch des Wals. Also Hodi (the bagpipe player) has another band called dArtagnan. They recently released a video called Herzblut featuring ... you guessed it, Melissa Bonny.
If you like this video try "Finsterwacht" by Saltatio Mortis (very cinematic and quite recent). For a crossover with Electric Callboy you could watch their version of "Hypa Hypa".
The guitar player here is Hans Platz. Hans met Melissa when she did guest voices for Feuerschwanz (song was Ding) and they kept in touch and created The Dark Side of the Moon together with Jenny who you can see fighting in this video and Morten who’s drums for Amaranthe Btw Saltatio Mortis is worth giving it a chance, try their cover of My mother told me for ex. Very good folk metal
And Finsterwacht, Hypa Hypa from Saltatio Mortis Also Hodi (the bagpipe player) has another band called dArtagnan. They recently released a video called Herzblut featuring ... you guessed it, Melissa Bonny.
The feeling when you realize that a cover is better than the original, while the original from Manowar is great tpp, is just... fantastic! Salutations des Caraïbes françaises...🙂
This song always makes me smile and feel good. The vocals are just so good and that video is so entertaining. You can't stop watching. And, of course, Melissa Bonny is another of those kick ass metal singers. Thanks to Fred for suggesting this one.
Medieval/Folk/Viking Rock is a special genre that mainly exists in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The world is currently discovering this music and I think that's great because I love this sound. Bands like Feuerschwanz, Saltatio Mortis or Ad Infinitum (Melissa Bonny) are among the big names, you won't go wrong if you dive deeper into them.
Alea (long bearded guy) couldn't attend the original video shoot because of being in hospital. He videoed his part later on in another castle ruin... we have a lot of those here in germany ;) And about Melissas beautiful clear voice: She can pack a hell of a metal scream / growl if she want's to. You can get a glimpse of it in Feuerschwanz "Ding" cover.
You were on the right track with the band name. Now you just have to speak it more emphatically. The band is German, so they often sing in German, but not always. The crank thing is a hurdy-gurdy. With the conquest of Spain by the Arabs, string instruments came to Europe. During the beginning of the reconquest in the 10th century, the Spaniards replaced the bow with a disk that was turned with a crank. This makes a permanent tone possible. From there it spreads across Europe, in different variations. The most popular variant today comes from 18th century France. In addition to the melody strings, it also has drone strings, similar to the drone pipes of a bagpipe. There are also snare strings for the rhythm. In the video you can see an e-version. Patty is by far the most successful hurdy-gurdy player and can explain this to you in detail: How EXACTLY does the hurdy gurdy work? Patty is best known for her numerous collaborations: ALESTORM ft. PATTY GURDY - Voyage Of The Dead Marauder (Official Video) | Napalm Records The song is a cover of the Manowar song of the same name. The two dancers are the GoGo Girls of the band. You'll see them in other videos and live performances. The redhead is also the producer of the videos. The guy with the green armor is the Swiss Thomas Winkler. When filming began, he was still a member of the British band Gloryhammer as Angus McFive and was wearing the stage costume. Before the release, he was terminated by his band via email. He then copies the concept of his old band, but one better: ANGUS McSIX - Master Of The Universe (Official Video) | Napalm Records The singer of the German Saltatio Mortis was ill at the time of recording and only filmed his part later. You already know Hypa Hypa from Electric Callboy, that was their folk cover: Saltatio Mortis vs. Eskimo Callboy - Hypa Hypa FEUERSCHWANZ - Untot Im Drachenboot (Official Video) | Napalm Records
Fware Schwanz. But pretty close actually, it gives all non Germans fits. For me this is one of the best collabs ever. It's a remake of a Manowar song but I actually prefer this. The axe maidens are actually dancers that perform full time with the band. Their schtick is pretty much medieval metal, but that doesn't keep them from covering modern stuff. And occasionally stuff like Abba. Great reaction!
Foy (like in boy) er - and schwanz you pronounced right 😉. Feuerschwanz is german for Firetail. What a grandiose ManOWar cover. They have a lot of awesome songs and collabs to check out. Enjoyed your reaction - thanks Maria 🎶
Not just simply Firetail. Also 'the other tail'. wink wink. All their stage names are tongue-in-cheek. For example the two fighting ladies/dancers; Mush-Mush and Myu are called 'Miezen'. Which translates from German as kitties or pussies.
@@Templarofsteel88 For British pronunciation that would probably work. But most Americans would read that as "schwänz". I chose 'u' as it rhymes with the plural of the C-word, for BE and AE. (I won't type the word to not call the UA-cam bots on this.)
If you're looking for more songs by this band. I'd definitely check out the songs, Berserkermode and Highlander. They're my favorite feuershwanz songs.
you are so charming when yiu say feuerschwanz.. but , i love your work, keep it going! edit: i was was thinking, beeing a warrior these days has nothing to do with one on one combate, where the more skilled and suffisticated warrior wins and survies, it is, thousands of tons of explosives raining on you. death war and fighting doesnt have anything to do with glory it is just, food for the cannons, senceless dying, a tragedy... i am sad, and what makes me even more sad is, there are no good guys, there is just, politics, and power, and the urge to get us people behinde it, no matter what side are you on, it is always the rich mans war, and the poor mans struggle, how litte did we learn from history
"what ist that?" it's a hurdy gurdy - The hurdy-gurdy is a string instrument that produces sound by a hand-crank-turned, rosined wheel rubbing against the strings. extract wikipedia

btw. Listen to their "Valhalla Calling" - it's amazing
yep, it's an oi sound not an ew. And their name could also translate to fire dick. The ambiguity is deliberate ;)

foy-er-shvunts
is my best English approximation of the correct pronunciation
foy-er I would agree with you on but shvants would be better for the last part.
