Great pianist, plays everything with superb good taste! Should be much better known and praised!
Very fluent and brilliant playing, with excellent tone control. A splendid pianist!
...with some charming ad libitum. I quite like the extra
The clarity of the recording is unforgiving to pianists. Mr. Simon meets the test with room to spare!
Brilliant ❤
Abbey Simon play the music of the Abbè Franz Liszt.
Wow!
There's a name from the past - he seems to have been somewhat underrated by posterity.
Nobody should be surprised by notes that they do not know or have heard before. As far as liszt is concerned, we should know that there were many "ossias" in his works and in addition he taught his students new ways of playing something which had been written before in another way with different notes and even different chords sometimes. For instance at the end of the Sonata in B minor he taught some students to complete a few chords which otherwise sounded weakly. H
e realized this after sending the work to be printed.
You are right about Liszt's ossias in general, but here (at 2:44 + the ending) the 'ossias' appear to be additions by the pianist rather than by Liszt. They are not included in any of my editions.
