It's become one of my favorite books, and I think you're going to love it. There's a whole chapter on shells (snails included), a chapter on corners, on cellars, you name it. 😊

Emma, you would love 'The Architecture of Happiness' by Alain de Botton, who is a modern philosopher. His books are so good, and this was one of the first I read. It's all about how different architecture produces different emotional response/reflects different zeitgeist. Also 'The Post Office Girl' by Stefan Zweig - which is set mostly in a snowbound hotel. A great book.

Hi Emma! As a Korean, a longtime fan of Han Kang, and a longtime subscriber to your channel, I was so happy to see The Vegetarian in your video!
If you enjoy reading it and want to explore more of Han Kang’s works, I highly recommend The White Book. Like many of her other works, it’s a poetic novel that explores the fragility of human life, yet at the same time, it conveys the unbreakable dignity of the human spirit through the color white. The book begins with a list of “white things” the author wants to write about-things like snow, ice, waves, and the moon, which I think you would really appreciate.
Also, I just want to say that your voice is so pleasant to listen to, and your pronunciation is so clear that I not only discover great books through your videos but also improve my English while watching them! Happy new year 😊

I don't usually comment in YT. But I've become a huge fan of yours lately. Your content is informative, fun and comfortable. You know a lot, share it in a fun and humble way and have a very cozy, confident (in a very attractive way if I may) way of narrating things. You'd do for a great teacher. Oh and as a fellow book worm, I'm very jealous of your amazing bookshelf. Keep doing such cool content and sharing your knowledge with us. Greetings from Mexico.
    PS:
If you end up enjoying Capitalist Realism, a devastating read, I highly recommend Fisher's collection of essays: K-Punk; and following it with Technofeudalism by Varoufakis, who discusses a possible end to to capitalism. As for The Poetics of Space, hopefully we get video of you discussing it, I have it on my list after reading an odd, seemingly unrealted list of authors who talk about space and our relation with it from distinct povs: Rem Khoolaas, Hofstadter and Benjamin.

This was a fun one, Emma! I've read most of Stephen King's books. My Dad loves him and we buddy-read together. He's not a great writer (I've never highlighted his stuff) but he's a good story-teller. I think you'll like The Shining. I love that edition of The Magic Mountain. My copy is mass market paperback from my University's bookstore. I took a Modern Novels course in which we read The Magic Mountain, Ulysses, and One Hundred Years of Solitude. That professor had no pity. 😅

At this point I would also like to thank you, because the two best books I read this year (the year is young, we'll see were they'll end up in the end) I read both more or less because of you. The first being Beartown for the book club and the other being Heaven and Hell by Jón Kalman Stefánson. So thank you.

I read The Shining after Joe from ‘You’ kept talking about how it was a masterpiece in the whole book, got curious, and I agree, FREAKING AMAZING! Finished it in 3 nights.
I started to watch the movie after but stopped halfway because they changed a lot from the book and I got annoyed.
Another King I absolutely take no criticism on is IT, I love it even more than The Shining, it’s complex, a lot to unpack, and a lot of people give up on it because it does time jumps very often, we’d be talking present and next minute we’d be in some event in the 1920s, so this needs the utmost focus.
Another is Under The Dome, I watched the show and loved it and a lot of fans mentioned the book is even better, I’ve got the copy but soon.

Last year I read 11/22/63 by Stephen King, it was not what I expected and it was great. I already read The Shinning years ago, and I plan on reading its sequel Doctor Sleep this year. It looks like you have a wonderful Free Little Library near you from all the nice new looking books you found, and possibly someone else in your building that is a book reviewer as well if they are cycling through newer books like the ones you found. I will be trying to read only the books that I own this year, as well as utilizing the Library or any free little libraries I come across.

I've got Magic Mountain on the Kindle, but I may try to finish Valley of the Dolls and Stepford Wives first. I'll finish Annie Bot today, and really really liked Klara and the Sun. Unfortunately, writers seem to get bogged down in the comparison between young women and programmable robots. Ooo! I just read the Floating Hotel last year and I rather enjoyed it!! Found it to be a fun read and the characters very likable.
Also I recently read a middle grade book called: Icefall by Mathew J. Kirby. It’s set in Medieval Norway. Tons of snow. Themes of storytelling. About a young girl and her siblings who are stuck in a remote steading while their father is away at war. But it’s not as safe where they are as they once thought 👀. I honestly was surprised by how much i enjoyed This book. I flew through, stayed up late to read it because I just HAD to know what happened next. Anyways just thought it might be up your alley considering the setting lol.

The book, The shining, is better than the movie. I love how king writes every member of the Torrence family. I liked Jack Torrence in the book, a man struggling with himself but trying so hard to fight his demons. So so good. Dr Sleep also. Two of my favourite books.

Had to read the weird and the eerie by Mark Fisher for a literature class I took that was focused on "weird" in writing, and it was really good! I read capitalist realism on my own and I found it pretty interesting, but I'd love to reread it now since I'm sure so much went over my head back then lol. Seemed like such an insightful and kind guy, truly gone too soon

Emmie is talking about her first Stephen King book when I'm reading my first Stephen King book (11.22.63). I'm now more motivated to see this book, which is a little intimidating for me, to the end.

I read Taylor Swift By the Book and even though not all the "literature references" seemed accurate, overall, I loved it! I put The Ice Children on my TBR list because I will read any Snow Queen retelling! :)

So many people love the Book Thief and I just couldn’t get into it! I made it about 30 percent and I realized I actually didn’t like it being narrated by death when that’s what actually attracted to the book. I feel like because it was narrated by death, I couldn’t get connected to the characters and their thoughts/feelings.
