和竿職人｜竿昭作
天明年間（1780年代）
芝川流域に自生していた良質の布袋竹を使用し、
竹釣り竿を生産したのが「川口和竿」の起源と言われる。
その伝統の技術を継承し、1957年に創業した竿昭作。
二代目、山野正幸さんが1本1本丁寧に仕立てていく釣り竿は、
「これで釣れるのか？」と言われるほどの繊細な印象を与える。
「何百本の上質な竹の中から、最適な組み合わせを見極める。
それですべてが決まる」その妥協ないこだわりが、
他の釣り竿では味わえない極上の感触を生む。

Japanese bamboo rod (和竿, wazao) shokunin | Saoshōsaku
It is said that the origin of "Kawaguchi wazao" was a fishing rod made of high-quality fishpole bamboo that grew naturally in the Shiba River basin during the Tenmei era (the 1780s).
Inheriting the traditional technique, in 1957, Saoshosaku was established.
The second-generation, Masayuki Yamano, creates each rod with great care. His rods have a delicate look, at which people often ask, with astonishment, “can I really fish with this?”
"I identify the best combination from hundreds of fine bamboos. That determines everything," Mr. Yamano says.
Natural bamboo has excellent flexibility and elasticity. Even if it is bent, it will return to its original shape.
Judged simply by performance, however, a bamboo fishing rod cannot outshine the strength and efficiency of a rod made of fiberglass or carbon fiber. Nevertheless, created with the uncompromising commitment of Mr. Yamano, a wazao has a superb feeling of a “bite” that cannot be experienced with other fishing rods.
