  • The short answer: 5-15 pounds.
The longer answer: Up to 50 pounds or more if depending on certain risk factors.
Weight gain with Hashimoto's is a serious problem and more than 80% of patients struggle with it.
But you aren't destined to gain weight if you have this condition. There are things that you can do to not only prevent weight gain, but also lose weight if you are overweight.
Whether or not you gain weight, and how much, depends on these factors:
    1. Your diet.
    2. The severity of your disease.
    3. Which thyroid medication(s) you're taking
    4. Your genetics
    5. How much water you retain
    6. Your physical activity level and how much you exercise
The first place to start if you want to lose weight is with your diet. If you need help with that, check out this video next: • The BEST Diet For Hash...

💝 Thank you! Balancing Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, PBC, and Stage 3CKD hydronephrosis with non-functioning kidney. Or I'm trying to.
I've been on Synthroid for decades. Levels STILL not balanced. I'm sharing this video with my endo with the hopes we can get my thyroid on track; despite being told my thyroid is basically SHOT.
I find it hard to believe I'm doomed. Thank you for this powerful information. 💝

As always, great video. Would love to see you do a video one day on the effect of bodybuilding and overtraining with Hashimoto’s. I’ve been a bodybuilder for over 35 years and two years ago was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. Haven’t seen any real videos from endocrinologist about the effect of Hashimoto on trained athletes. Thanks for the videos!

Going canivore for me was the worst decision, ever. Fat% increased, musclemass decreased, thyroid worsen, SBHG dropped badly and lost my libido entirely.

I've been listening to your podcasts and videos for years but since a few month I'm confused. My diet is based on your plans and my lab tests have been good the last 2 years with 50mg T4 and 40mg T3. But 2 month ago my ft4 went down to 0.3 which is way to low so my doctor made me take 100mg T4. Since then I feel terrible and I feel like my rT3 might be the reason. Now is my question: Is a low ft4 bad if my ft3 is fine? since ft3 is the active hormone anyways? I really don't feel good with this much T4

Preach doctor!! I used synthroid for years with non stop problems and complications as well as extra depression and anxiety.
I finally told my doctor I was DONE!
He asked if I'd like to start t3 and never having heard of it... He told me to read on it. That was years ago and I've never looked back. I also use glandular supplements with t2,t3, t4. That has helped a lot!

Drs keep telling me tests not showing Hashimotos. I've gained 50 lbs on one meal a day plus one desert. After 1 cup of coffee then I only drink water all day.
I had 5 nodes in my thyroid. Had Bad Covid. My throat hurts and appears swollen.
My weight has gone up & done thru my life! I've been 125 to 230!

Riddle me this: I’ve had hoshimotos for 24 years. Diagnosed at 19 with a tsh level of 26 and antibody of over 500. I literally felt like a zombie. I’ve been so vigilant advocating for myself since diagnosis, even arguing with doctors. I watch my food intake, exercise, sleep 9hrs a night, but I’m still on 150mg synthroid, 25 mcg cytomel and I even take 4.5mg Ldn. I worked out for 7 years consistently. Not to muscle failure, just enough and I walked 10000 steps a day. I couldn’t get below 140lbs and I’m 5’3. Not overweight but I looked puffy in pictures. I got frustrated last August, stopped working out and lost 10lbs. I like that I look thinner but hate that I lost all my muscle!!! How do I workout without gaining water weight and looking puffy?!?!? Gosh dang it it’s so frustrating!!!!

First ultrasound at age 11, presenting with goiter and nodules, but no blood test for function. Was always heavy, despite being very active. Around 23, I got a non labor intensive job and went from 190 to 280 in 2 years. Went to a doctor at 27 after my father’s passing and got bloodwork done. Tsh was not measurable >150. Antibody count was 754. Been on Levo for less than 3 months and I’m down 20 lbs so far. Wish I would’ve gone before packing on so much weight, as it could’ve been prevented.

The puffiness is the worst part of hashi. The bottom line, if your thyroid or hormones are out of balance, you will gain way more than 10 lbs and losing weight will feel impossible. Drs just shrug it off like well you have hashi, or well you are in menopause…they don’t help you. A Dr gave me a one paper list of here’s Whole Foods…well duh. I tried every diet and I do mean every…finally losing weight…carnivore, bhrt, thyroid meds, LDN, a ton of supplements, Brazil nuts for selenium. It’s been a very frustrating journey, but I finally see results.

Omg. So I’m a bodybuilder. I was recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I’m currently on T4/T3 low dose and waiting 6 weeks for new blood work and antibodies test. I feel exactly that. Puffy eyes, puffy face and puffy arms. Frustrated AF because i workout daily (even with exhaustion) i eat 140g of protein daily i never eat out everything is made at home almost gluten free and I cannot shred fat. Now im not talking about weight because weight fluctuate so much in women but fat loss have been impossible. I wonder why so many people in the last 10 years alone have been diagnosed.. what is in our food making us develop this disorders numbers keep spiking the data is the here is pretty scary.

Thank you Dr. I would love to see your subscription and viewing up in the 100,000’s . I have learned so much from you and now am seeing a naturopath that has ran ALL the thyroid blood tests where my traditional MD would not. Thank you so much. Ps, your supplements are quality. Also, methylene blue with sauna has really helped.

I've been on Levothyroxine for years and I can't stop putting weight on around my torso. Doesn't matter what I do. I am going to see my GP tomorrow but when I've mentioned other medication previously that has other hormones they look at me like that meme gif of the blinking man. I don't hold out much hope but I can not fit into any of my clothes. I have to wear my big baggy stuff I wear round the house for comfort but outside.

I have PCOS and I believe I am an endomorphic. I have always gained weight with no problems but losing weight is a straight slope just about. My endocrinologist says I have Hashimoto’s but my labs don’t show it really other than my having autoimmune antibodies. So I don’t take meds yet.

I gained 60+ pounds (120-185) in 4 years despite having a Hashi’s diagnosis for 6 years. Whole Foods Plant Based diet, active on Peloton Bike+, strength, and yoga. Drs will not up my dosage. I am still on only 88mcg of Synthroid and 10 mcg of Cytomel. I have had to ask for both of these. Instead they sent me to sleep, dietician (1050 calorie diet of processed foods), cardiology, etc and keep saying everything is perfect lab wise. 40yo, spent my entire life being underweight

I didn't gain weight until after taking depo for two years and now I recently changed to Niva Thyroid because every other Thyroid meds gave me bad diarrhea and I've been on Weight watchers for over two years and only have lost 15 pounds how do I know how bad is my hashimotos? My first labs 13 years ago were at a 17 and now they're at 6.5 is that good ? Also is it possible that you can be allergic to Thyroid meds I'm taking my meds at night and don't have as much diarrhea I'm taking a New brand Niva and only 15 mcg

If someone’s lab results showed their T3 and reverse T3 were in range would you still recommend a t3? My t3 was normal but tsh has been out of wack so we’ve added it to my medications. I think they are both still low but I need to get more blood work done. How do you know how much of a dose you need for T4 and T3 and even if I added in T2 how do I know to be able to get my levels normal. We’ve been trying to regulate my TSH since December and it’s been a struggle
