Hi bud I've watched everyone of your videos literally back to back as ive been off with an injury and i like all the friday fillers as well. Big shout out to you and your bro all the way from Scotland 🎣. Cant wait for the next video all the time, ive learned a lot. I'd love to see you make a friday filler on how you edit your videos bud. The fishing in Scotland is brilliant but it looks a lot better where you are... keep up the good work and tight lines 🎣🐟🐟👍
I own them and i literally couldn’t be happier about the purchase. Coming from simms boots - those cleats constantly fell out. The orvis posigrip screws have been in for 3 seasons now
Alex, when you do your long pack trips in (overnight) , or long hikes before the river, do you wear those, or carry them? If you wear them, do you use neoprene socks or ??? Thanks!
I've been thinking about getting a pair. Just bought my second pair of Simms G4 Pro Wading Boots with the Vibram sole. They're $300 in the US. Plus the "alumibite" cleats cost an additional $80 if you install ten on each boot. ( I'm not sure how much those cleats help. ) I'll look into the Orvis boots and no cleats for my next pair. Thanks for the advice!
Hey, how long did you get out of the G4’s? They ain’t been out that long, so I’m guessing unless you’re a hardcore every day angler they weren’t up to snuff?
@@Karkawry1970 As I'm sure you know, these boots are very expensive, especially if you get the special alumibite cleats that go with it, which I did. You're looking at $380 US. I only used the G4's I bought last year for 5 weeks while fishing in Montana. I got the boots with the Vibram sole. ( Felt sole boots are no longer allowed in Yellowstone Park. ) Even with the cleats, these are not as good as felt sole boots. I'm not convinced that these boots are worth the extra money over the Simms Freestone boots, which are half the price with the same number of cleats. The positives are that the G4's are very comfortable, they are easy to put on, and the cleat positions are obvious.
@@schmoonkie cheers for the reply, I'm in the UK and fish for Sea Bass over pretty dicey reef strewn with algae, bubble weed etc, most of us guys go for some kind of vibram sole with studs. I'm certainly willing to try felt soles if you reckon they hold up to the rigours of reef wading? We don't have the same issues in the salt with cross contamination
@@Karkawry1970 I'm not sure about reef wading as I don't personally have experience with that. Felt sole boots with Alumibite cleats do better than Vibram boots with the same on slimy surfaces--in my experience at least. I'm not sure how reef would wear on felt soles, though. If the reef is grippy, felt may wear out quicker. This is not a problem wading in rivers. Replacing felt soles is pretty expensive here. Shipping to and from a repair shop, plus labor runs around $120-$140. I can get a new pair of Freestone boots on sale for about $150. New cleats would have to be added after repair as well. Since you were entertaining the idea of getting a G4, you could get two pairs of Freestone for about the same price: one pair with Vibram, one pair with felt. You can then decide which works better... :-)
I gots the the Orvis pro waders and a pair of their boots bro, have to agree man...solid reliable gear that does the business and most importantly comfy as. Money well spent imo.
Thanks my friend and a slightly early Merry Christmas/Happy Holiday and Happy New Year...2020 may just BITE ME!!! I'm a Simms wading boot when wearing waders guy[very light and comfy with waders], however for wet wading the Orvis Ultralights are fantastic for me. I personally wouldn't have to hike very far in any wading boot[there's this little guy in there with a ballpeen hammer beating on my toes].
Really enjoy the videos and the info, I have a question about the durability of these boots, I have read some reviews stating that the soles are coming free of the bottom of the boots. If this is the case would using the studs help hold the soles in place? Any help or educated guess or info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
I haven't had any issues with the soles coming off myself so maybe the people with problems had ones from a bad batch..? I don't think studs would make much difference to that happening or not but I could be wrong. I would say that if you got a pair and that happened, they should just be replaced outright..
My first pair took months to wear in and destroyed my feet, they fell apart and kindly got replaced for free. My second pair took only one good trip to wear in but have started to also fall apart. They are comfy and super grippy but im really in 2 minds about my orvis pros.
How long had you had them Alex, before you got the split, and would you still recommend them? Also, I’m a size 9 UK. You’re saying you wear socks and neoprene wader socks with your normal shoe size, no rubbing or tightness? Cheers...
Came back to watch it again!!! Thank you for that. Maybe something like this should be done again. People are forgetting. Take care Alex!!!
Shame they dropped me then aye🤷♂️😬

Sorry you are down and injured at the moment bro - hope you recover quickly. Stoked my vid have helped pass the time 🤙
Love my pair. Fished with them in tassie. Mainland Australia and New Zealand over the last two years and haven’t let me down yet 👌🏻

Great boots all right. Question do you wear these on your long overnight trips or what footwear do you take in those missions?

I just wear my wading boots and neoprene socks.
Exactly what I fish in🤙
a good supplier nuetral review, based upon testing "....in the field..."
Alex I think they referred to as speed lacing. Love your videos and love your catch and release ethics.
Thanks so much mate. Appreciate that🤙
Thanks for the review. I'm buying these boots tomorrow on your recommendation
I think you’ll love them too!! Let me
Know how you get on with them🤙
I’m considering the Orvis pro hybrid with the felt inlaid.
Alex I would call them lace hooks , the boots look nice might be my next pair.
They are real Nice bro👌
Good taste in fishing boot.I wear the exact same ones!

I got the boa version of these and I absolutely love them. I have bad ankles and they keep me comfy. Took me a few trips to break in though
Best boots I used yet
@@TrippinOnTrout yea I love them so much I almost want to buy another pair at some point in case they ever change it!

Awesome content !!! Keep it Up !!!
Thanks for the review Alex. Would you wear these on a backcountry pack mission, walking for 4-6 hours with heavy pack on?m to a back country river?
Yep, I do it all the time🤙

Funny. Since making this vid, my boots have started to bust open on the sides🤦♂️
@@TrippinOnTrout yea bro my soles keep peeling off for someone that makes tyres you would think they would have gluing rubber down sorted

Do you wear gaiters/ stone guards. Over your boots Alex? I wear an additional pair over my simms waders especially in rough back country water. Wayne
Nah, I just wear a pair of socks and neoprene socks and that’s me..!
The sole came off on mine and I only had them 5 months
Nice
👍
👌
How often do you use them to wear them down like that?
On the water most day through summer and once or twice a week through winter I guess.
I do a lot of walking
YO BRO I*LL LOOK FOR THOSE GRIPPY BUGGERS OVER HERE IN CANADA.. BOB..
How do they fit size wise? I heard i should size up one size from my normal shoe size?
I’m a size ten and run a size ten boot
Eyelets.
Hmm
why dont you screw some studs on the bottom of your worn out wading boot.....Thanks for the video
Because the soles are too thin once they are worn right down for the studs to hold well🤙
You’re wearing the wrong studs if they slip.
👌
