I really do appreciate the more laid back and positive approach you've been doing lately. It's a real emotional boost even without the whole pandemic nightmare we go goin on right now.
Umm, id say the 90's not the mid 80s🤔. I grew up in the 90's it actually doeent look any different than the late 90's did, 2000. Anyways youre so wrong. Ita veey reminisent of the way the late 90's and beginings of 2000 still looked.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I am really looking forward to your coverage on how retailers treated their employees during this time. I also really enjoyed this video, thanks.
what I find neat, being from Canada, is how the opening to the mall and the balconies - were windowless = like no barriers between you and the weather....that can't happen up here...not will all the sleet and snow and cold temps we have - so this is definitely one of my fave malls you've shown.....take care and stay safe! ♥
It's a nice lay out. It looks older than 2000. The green and brown is a bit off IMO but its decent. Looks like a good film-TV location for a 1990s 2000s era.
For your future video on "sh*theads": Ruth's Chris restaurants and Shake Shack took PPP money (but they did return them). To change subjects: neat little mall and nice ending.
Also GameStop needs a return visit (aka video) because of them claiming to be "essential" and staying open when the pandemic started. I think GS is deader than dead after this all said and done.
@@PinkAgaricus If GameStop does die (and I expect it will although it may take a while for things to play out) it will be nobody's fault but their own. Potential customers won't stand for the arrogance and belittling treatment anymore and simply take their business elsewhere (be it online, a big box like Walmart or Target, or a mom-and-pop shop). Once that happens, GameStop will collapse under its own weight and probably join Blockbuster as a target for derision and mockery for the rest of time.
LOVE the light inside the open slot in the red brick column lamp posts! And sorta old west/turn of the century features! And kooky store window layout!
My local shopping centre 'Lanyon Marketplace' is styled similar to this. In Australia we call this architect style "federation revival", it was really popular in the 90's and early 00's.
Someone else commented something similar below but I cannot believe this was built in the 2000s! It looks like something straight out of the late 70s/early 80s!! Holy crow!
If you ever decide to come visit Japan, be sure to let me know and I'll be happy to give you a mall tour of Tokyo as thanks for all the lovely videos you've made over the years. Mall culture (as well as the more widely known shopping street culture) is very much alive and well here, with most malls booming as much as they did in the '80s back in the U.S., if not more. (Or at least, that was the case before the whole Covid-19 thing...) Assuming they survive the current state of affairs, I'm pretty sure you would be absolutely blown away by some of the bigger malls here, as well as some of the more unique ones. There's one mall in Odaiba that's laid out to look like a street in Italy, with street lights, fake building fronts for the shops, and even a fake (but shockingly convincing) starry sky painted and lit on the ceiling. Easily one of the most incredibly aesthetic mall experiences I've ever had in my life. I sure hope the shops in there are able to reopen after all is said and done, because it was absolutely BOOMING beforehand, with zero empty stores and throngs of people everywhere.
@@TrainmasterCurt Even in rural areas, though, malls seem to be absolutely booming at all times. I honestly don't think I've ever seen a dead mall in Japan -- not even once! It just doesn't happen here, somehow...
There was a place like this in my hometown. I never knew it even existed until I had to make a delivery there. It seemed like something that existed in a pocket dimension. It was so weird. It actually spanned multiple buildings downtown, with underground corridors connecting to various chunks of the mini mall or whatever it was. It was hardly marked at all from the outside. I have no idea how the business in there stayed in operation.
This would be a great place for a card shop or comic book store to be located. I could see one of these units turning into a cool geek store. Only time will tell.
I lived in Gilbert through my high school years and in fact I used to work at that DQ. I used to walk through downtown Gilbert every day. Gilbert changed a LOT since I moved away, I remember downtown Gilbert being very dead but due to the new developments, its become very busy. Unfortunately its really upped the land price for surrounding homes so a lot of the lower class people who lived there had to move out. Although Heritage Court looks dead, its a lot better off than it was a few years ago. Also, that tattoo shop moved to one of the new buildings in the back of Gilbert. I think they moved for lower rent prices because the new place they're in seems to get less foot traffic. If you go back, I suggest filming all of downtown Gilbert. Most of the buildings are from the early 20th century and the city put up plaqs showing the history of the buildings. Also, I know you like food, I suggest eating at Joe's Real BBQ, real good eats! Before that place was a BBQ place it was a dinner theater and before that it was a mechanic garage! Has an old Coca Cola sign on the side which i LOVED to look at!
When you start doing videos on the crappy companies.... please start with how capital one made it: impossible for anyone to contact them for any kind of relief, how they refused to lower or suspend interest rates on credit cards, and how the basically just treated customers like shit in order to maintain their profits!
I didn't realize how many places there was to see in the phoenix area until I started watching this channel. Would be cooler if people started populating these places again. So many places with so many retro vibes, makes me sad that economic decay ruins a good thing.
The building style looked older then 2000, but it looked nice. That type place needs offices and hair and nail type places that people make appointments for on the lower and upper floors and retail at street level if they want people passing by to just walk in.
This looks awesome! Maybe if it had some living spaces up there, then the shops could have more traffic from the same tenants; the place has it`s own charm for sure!
Looks like the late 1970s and early 1980s inside that court. Some businesses might see more traffic during the week instead in this case. Gilbert, Arizona looks like a city that I would like to visit just to see all those buildings. They look like they have a vintage modern aesthics and what old city isn't complete without a water tower.
In Downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia, there is an old furniture(?) store that was converted into a similar "mall" with small shops and restaurants on several floors. The conversion occurred in about the early-1980s. I have not been there in many years, so I do not know if it is still in business.
There is a neat speak easy called "The White Rabbit" on the south side of that plaza. They require a password, which you can get by subscribing to their mailing list.
I dont know if anyone else has mentioned it, but you didnt mention the white rabbit. The hidden speakeasy on the bottom floor of this mall. If you havent checked it out, you should if it survives this pandemic. Its awesome
That night shot was indeed beautiful! Two thumbs up as always. BTW, are you planning to do a "Mall Tycoon" run again anytime soon? I really enjoyed that and miss it... and this might be a good time to do it while "stuck" inside.
There's a quote on quote secret prohibition themed bar at the bottom of that basement area and there's a secret door that you have to get a password to go through It's called the white rabbit.
Ry Cooder's sound has a touch of Eric Clapton's R & B Style of playing as well. Thanks for the bread crumb on RC. He was definitely worth the listen. His music makes me want to take-up guitar! :) Oh my sweet home.... Sweet Home Chicago..... (ua-cam.com/video/ZEmvBdRLg4k/v-deo.html)
I just love hydraulic elevators in shopping centers and hotels. I love being able to look out as I go between floors. Normal elevators are just boring.
Have lots of these in my home town, we call them arcades.
General Mayhem the shopping arcade
They typically are called Arcades. Check out his Video on "Burlington Arcade" in Pasadena....it's one I take friends to see.
General Mayhem I came here to say that too. Look up the Strand Arcade in Sydney for something really old timie.
There is lots of these kind of old style pocket malls in Australian cities. They call them arcades.
I really do appreciate the more laid back and positive approach you've been doing lately. It's a real emotional boost even without the whole pandemic nightmare we go goin on right now.
Opened in 2000?! That place looks like 1985!
Yes! Very 80s theme. Well maintained.
Umm, id say the 90's not the mid 80s🤔. I grew up in the 90's it actually doeent look any different than the late 90's did, 2000. Anyways youre so wrong. Ita veey reminisent of the way the late 90's and beginings of 2000 still looked.
Looks very mid 90s to me
More like 1885...

I love the fact that artists are just sending you music for these videos now and it always seems to fit.
The vintage coziness of this place is so endearing
That place would be a cool filming location.
Ha! I said the same! AZ could list this as a 1980s 1990s era film, tv 🎬🎞🎭.

I live in cleveland...right below Toronto..its happening all the time here now... Why i dont know... But whatever
Hopefully when it’s okay to go, you should do an episode on AMC Theaters. They’ve been struggling in the past few years.
@Nolan this aged well
You're becoming one of my favourite UA-camrs. I love looking around interesting malls. I used to have dreams about malls.
It's a nice lay out. It looks older than 2000. The green and brown is a bit off IMO but its decent. Looks like a good film-TV location for a 1990s 2000s era.
I was here once back in 2013 I think. Completely forgot about it thanks for the reminder a very cool place.
Such a relaxing vibe about Heritage Court. It has to be the green. Never played Animal Crossing, but I'd not be surprised to see this in Earthbound.
This building reminds me a lot of an office building near downtown Scottsdale, with the open below ground and second story levels
This is one of the most unique shopping plaza (court) that I have seen in a while.
Holy crap. This was the most coolest looking place ever..
I'm sad that you didn't dunk the camera into the fountain
I kind of filmed this place spur-of-the-moment and I didn't have the right camera with me to do that.
For your future video on "sh*theads": Ruth's Chris restaurants and Shake Shack took PPP money (but they did return them). To change subjects: neat little mall and nice ending.
They're both on my list to discuss.
I never ate a Ruth Cris 🥩. Shake Shack is not bad but a tad upscale for me.
Also GameStop needs a return visit (aka video) because of them claiming to be "essential" and staying open when the pandemic started. I think GS is deader than dead after this all said and done.
@@PinkAgaricus last time i passed by one at my mall even the roaches were avoiding it. and that was before this outbreak.

One day. We'll all be able to walk and see these things ourselves again with friends.
One day.
You could have told me this was a declining / repurposed 80s mall and I would have believed it
LOVE the light inside the open slot in the red brick column lamp posts! And sorta old west/turn of the century features! And kooky store window layout!
Beautiful thanks for keep it positive.
I have been to the cafe once on a whim. I was in the area to do something else and had some time to kill. It’s quite lovely.
If you DO go back there, make sure to get a Fountain Cam shot!
Wow! Cool! Thanks so much for this! I had a great time watching it! So nice to always spend time on your channel. : )

Asthenic Pleasing Mini Mall, I'm interested
Drive by it every week. Amazibg how downtown Gilbert has changed in the last 30 years.
this is amazing, i love the vibe it has. Thank you for making videos of these places!
It has a cozy and inviting air about it. Love the fountains.
Neat spot! the dark green trim & brick really does give it a nice vibe, I can see why art students would do a shoot there!
The suits and dresses you saw may be related to “The White Rabbit”, a speakeasy you missed because of not having the password
Someone else commented something similar below but I cannot believe this was built in the 2000s! It looks like something straight out of the late 70s/early 80s!! Holy crow!
It would be a really great apartment conversion from the top down as places close up... wow. Beautiful!

@Retail Archaeology I think of Heritage Court as a mini-Mall. Nice video, Thumbs Up.
A retro video game store would be the dream!

should be easy to film dead malls now, 6ft or 60ft separation its all the same
