Case heads to the jury in Auburn officer's murder trial over 2019 shooting

Closing arguments in the trial of Auburn police officer Jeff Nelson, who is charged with murder, began Thursday morning, and the jury is expected to start deliberating Friday.
Nelson is on trial for shooting and killing 26-year-old Jesse Sarey in an Auburn altercation, outside of a convenience store, that lasted just 67 seconds on May 31, 2019. Nelson was trying to arrest Sarey, who was unarmed, for disorderly conduct. Nelson was charged with second-degree murder and first-degree assault more than a year after the incident.
