I’ve been using Azelaic acid since watching your videos 6 months ago and what a difference! I suffer with closed comedones and minor rosacea and it has improved both issues soooo much. It has also helped with the overall appearance and feel of my skin. It’s super smooth and even toned. Luckily we can get 20% without a prescription here in Australia. I use it every morning and will be for the rest of my life 🥰
I have been using it since November 2021 and I haven't seen any improvement. It actually made me skin breakout a lot at the beginning, and it doesn't seem to help at all with hyperpigmentation. I have been using it everyday on top of the Ordinary's Niacinamide. How do you use it?
This is not a normal skincare content on UA-cam - it is a scientific lecture for the masses! Thank you so much Dr Sam for helping develop educated skincare consumers ❤
Azelaic acid has changed my life! I suffered with my skin for decades. I had to introduce it very gradually via OTC lower potencies but now use 15% Finacea. A GP had prescribed 20%Skinoren many years ago but it was too strong and irritating so I abandoned it.
I’m now using 10% azaleic acid on my chin every night. It’s really helped my acne in this area. My skin has improved massively since using it. Far more than the prescription of antibiotics I’d been given by the doctor for years!
Dr. Sam, thank you, because you were actually the first person who I ever heard mention azelaic acid in a Caroline Hirons video way back in 2015. I am so grateful. I just wish I hadn’t waited so long to try it. (As a rosacea patient, hearing about the stinging side effect really scared me off. Thankfully have not had it at all.) Nothing has helped my flushing more, along with a strong, water-resistant spf daily.
I tried a lot of actives (OTC + subscriptions) and antibiotics but nothing helped with my acne. This year I started using azelaic acid and it never irritated my skin, my angry pimples calmed down altogether and I have a more even skin tone. Highly recommend it! My skin is very sensitive and dryness always lead to acne flair ups for me si retinoids, AHA, BHA were all too irritating, no matter which percentage I used.
All of a sudden I started getting rosacea-like flushing and red bumps on my cheeks that would last well past the initial red flush. I did some research and found out about azelaic acid and got Zealseal 10% OTC. I was scared to put anything on my skin so I used it sparingly and still within 3 days I could really see a difference! Within 2 weeks it had basically returned my cheeks completely back to normal!! I was completely blown away and am now preaching about azelaic acid to everyone I know! I will continue to use it for as long as I need to! So thrilled to have found something that works for my super sensitive skin! Thank you for this suggestion!
@@nicoleannponies It actually helped with the flushing before the bumps for me. I had only been having symptoms for a couple of weeks when I started using it, so I don’t know if that’s why it worked so astonishingly quickly. I’m still using it and it has helped my skin tremendously!
I got a prescription strength AZA about 2 years ago and it has really improved my skin. I’ll never be without! I currently use it in the AM with Vitamin C.

Please would it be possible to have a video with more detailed information regarding what percentages are most suited for different skin issues and skin types, e.g. for hyperpigmentation, melasma, acne, sensitive skin etc. I feel this video doesn’t really provide that has already been provided in previous videos. This woman knows her onions! I had not realised Azelaic Acid is good for dark areas. I have used it for a while for rosacea and know it is in Nightly and Brightly serum but might put a bit more on the sun damaged areas. My blackheads are definitely less since using this. Thanks for all the great info as always.
thanks, Azelaic Acid has helped me greatly. I no longer have flushed cheeks. like Dr. Sam said it might take a few months but worth every effort. Thanks so much, Dr. Sam.

The thing that inspired me is your dedication to purpose, clarity of communication and above all the integrity of your message. I will follow the wisdom you are imparting for which I remain thankful. Stay Blessed.
i bought 20% gel several days ago and oh my goodness even the instant effect it does to my skin is mindblowing, it mattifies my skin, my face doesn't get too oily throughout the day anymore, and my pores are finer than ever! usually after cleansing with salicylic acid, i can see sebaceous filaments and blackheads in just several hours later, but Azelaic acid has been able to keep my pores looking clean all day long.
Thank you for introducing me to this ingredient many years ago. (Long time subscriber). It’s a game changer for sure. I’ve also been able to educate my daughters with their skin issues and they’ve since started using prescription strength.
I really enjoy your videos, very informative! I introduced azelaic acid a month ago and so far I am quite pleased. Other ingredients dry up my skin ( I’m 49, prone to breakouts and redness..), but so far azelaic acid did not do that, and if I feel my skin is too dry, I use it every other day. I live in Canada, in a region where we can get dry and very cold weather in winter. For this reason, I search for ingredients that I can use year round. Found it a nice mix with my niacinamide serum. Wish you the best 😊
I’m using Finacea 15% for the past 3 weeks, using it every other night. I absolutely love it! Saw a difference the first use. Just wondering how long I should wait to apply moisturizer after and if I can start to use it once everyday?
Most derms say you can apply the moisturiser 15-30 minutes after applying Azelaic acid. But to be on safe side, I do it after an hour or so right before going to bed. As for the daily usage, after two to four weeks, we can start using it daily depending on the skin condition.
So informative! Thank you...I switched to Azelaic Acid 20% from trying to tolerate HQ ( red, itching, burning) to take care of a slight melasma (along mid face going up to cheek bones) I have developed oddly after menopause. I have always been up on skincare and never on birth control or any hormones so very sad about this new issue. Cosmelan MD as instructed was too much for my skin to tolerate and using it once/day along with a hydrating cream was doing nothing ....Azelaic Acid has so far been very tolerable and impacts a clarity to my skin that I like very much. Can I use indefinitely from here on out?--My mistake a few years ago was to switch to a new line : Skinbetter Science Intensive AlphaRet overnight cream vs. continuing with my .08% RetinA Micro... these combo products are not equal in my opinion...one does not know how much retinol and glycolic acid is combined ...

So I got prescription for 20% (we don’t have 15% unfortunately). I’m curious, is it okay to use 20% for rosacea?
Hello.. I'm not sure if this question has already been answered but can you take Vitamin A supplements while using Retinoids topically? Hope someone answers.
I was prescribed this, but haven't been using it because my dermatologist didn't give me the information your videos have. I wish I'd thought to look for info a year ago, because maybe I wouldn't be dealing with all the skin issues I have now.

Thank you so much for alerting me to its benefits. I have been using it for around 6 months, can I continue to use it forever even though my rosecea is under control?
Thx for the video, I started using it only every second night quite sometime ago but I didn't see any results on my problem areas. As my complexion is dull as I am getting older, I will step up again and try using it on my whole face. 😊 I am sure it's taking a much longer time to work bc it is not irritating my sensitive face.
Hi, great video. Just one question....... how would you compare pure Azelaic acid to PAD (potassium azeloyl diglycinate) in terms of effectiveness. Which would you recommend?
I love azelaic acid for many things, the results are dramatic. But using a fingertip or even half a fingertip seems like a lot. I only use a pea sized amount, otherwise it dries my skin out.

Hi Dr. Sam, Can we combine Salicylic acid & azelaic acid in the same routine? Do you recommend separating them day/night like retinol? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Neutralising gel is formulated with Azelaic Acid and Salicylic Acid and you can use it on your AM routine. But depending on the potency of your Salicylic acid & azelaic acid serums I'd suggest starting using them separately. ❤

Might this also work for hyperkeratosis and other skin issues caused by the inability of the skin to get rid of old skin cells and inflammatory problems (auto immun issues as well)? My boyfriend has issues on his elbows (outside) and other joints.

Hey there. - my isClinical cleanser has Salicylic acid in it and I use it day and night - how should I approach adding AA to my routine - is it ok to use both at once? I’m treating moderate acne. After cleansing in the Evenings, I apply benzoyl peroxide 2.5% as a face mask ever other day over my pimples. I’ve stopped using everything else but would like to include AA to help get rid of my acne and hyperpigmentation from the scarring.

My son is coming up to his 12th Birthday and in the last month has started to get some spotty areas (mainly around the forehead hairline area, a bit on the cheeks and the odd spot elsewhere). I have started him on using the Cerave SA cleanser which seems to be helping, but I'm not sure what else is safe to use on his skin. I don't know if things like Azelaic acid have been tested on younger skins. I wondered if maybe you could do a video on this at some point. I know I'm not the only one facing the situation of their children hitting puberty symptoms at a fairly young age. It would be great to hear from an expert who knows what to do in this situation (that's you btw lol). Thank you, Emma x
Can I use Azelaic acid for melasma? .. My skin is discolored from the top of my nose to my forehead and side face is discolored. I am an African dark-skinned carrying around my discolored face for ages...
Help please, I just started Finacea 15% and my skin get itchy and tingling a lot. When applied I waited at least 5 mins for each layer of moisture and sunscreen but each time I apply another product on top it make my skin itchy over and over. I really don’t know what to do. 😢
Dr Bunting, my daughter age 15 had Covid19 over Easter and it seems to have triggered Rosacea which has not settled down. She has a lot of deep redness on her cheeks and is getting some broken capillaries. Would Azelaic work for someone her age?
As much as 2 times a day AM & PM. That’s how much she uses it & it’s at 10%, and not a prescriptive strength. I do too and my brand is called The Ordinary. Very reasonable price! She likes the brand too. She has other UA-cam videos on Azelaic
Azelaic acid is the one substance I need in my routine. I don't have rosacea, but quite a bit of erythema, and azelaic acid is considered a drug here in Sweden. I have used The Ordinary one, which wasn't very cosmetically elegant, but I still want to keep on using it. That particular product only works as the last step in my routine under sunscreen, but I heard somewhere it might still be effective when applied not closest to your skin. Everything else in my routine I got down pat. My retinoid (retinaldehyde) makes me look way behind my year, so my only real concern is my redness. If I find a reasonably cosmetically element azelaic acid product I would definitely stick to it. Apart from retinoids, from what I can tell it sounds like a panacea.
i didn’t like the one from the ordinary either. the one from facetheory is better imo. inkey list has one also, but i haven’t tried it yet. i think cos de baha has one also.
I have tried using finacea a 3 or 4 times for a few weeks at a time. I always see good results very quickly- any PIH really fades and my skin is as smooth as a newborn baby. But it makes my skin so so dry - especially under my eyes even though I don’t apply it there and I generally have oily skin. My under eye looked dry and crinkled and It actually makes my eyeballs really dry and itchy. After I stopped using it my skin went back to normal after a week or so. But my partner uses it and has none of these side effects.
I have a similar experience with retinoids and finacea. Finacea is really drying, and retinoids causing severe eye drying. I don’t put either near my eyes; I just gave up on retinoids.
@@Fallenangle9 I have heard this happen to other people from retinoids. It’s soooo annoying when everyone talks about how amazing a product is and it doesn’t work for you or even worse - causes more issues. I’m like, why me?!😭

Might this also work for hyperkeratosis and other skin issues caused by the inability of the skin to get rid of old skin cells and inflammatory problems (auto immun issues as well)? My boyfriend has issues on his elbows (outside) and other joints.
Doc.. can we apply azelaic with tretinoin together ? I have melasma and i tried combination cream ( hydroquinon+tretinoin+seteroid) , but it didnt work.. and now, i am trying to combine azelaic+tretinoin in night treatment , vitamin c+azelaic+sunscreen in the morning.
I have been using Finacea in a foam form. Can you please give your opinion of foam vs the gel or cream. Thank you in advance.
can Azelaic mixed with Alpha Arbutin and Vitamic for AM routine?
Great video !! Can I use finacea in this order : niacinamide, alpha arbutin and finecea ? I noticed when I use it this way my skin feels a lot less dry and I don’t get this itchy feeling I get when I use financea alone .

Hi Dr Sam. Could you advise please? I have recently had to stop using retinol as my skin (after 6 months of careful use) has suddenly reacted very badly to it. So I am just using La R’ P - B5 under my sun cream. How long should I wait before I start back on AA please? Thank you.
Hi i have dry skin which cream is good for my skin and i have little bit open pores and i did them visble after uesd something thts eas not for my skin i just uesd water for my dkin before
My son is coming up to his 12th Birthday and in the last month has started to get some spotty areas (mainly around the forehead hairline area, a bit on the cheeks and the odd spot elsewhere).
I'm wondering the same thing too if it's safe for early teens. My daughter is 13 and has a lot of pimples.
The doctor mentioned in the video that it is safe for pregnant and lactating women. I would think it is therefore safe for an adolescent
Hi.just wondering as have been looking at AZ for mature, redness and still spot prone -.all my adult
life🙄.
How does AZ effect the skin barrier.
I have been using Azaleic Acid and enjoying it. What about using it at night after tretinoin?
I use it with my tretinoin in the pm i add it first, then my tretinoin and then my moisturizer.
Can I use Azelaic acid for melasma? .. My skin is discolored from the top of my nose to my forehead and side face is discolored. I am an African dark-skinned carrying around my discolored face for ages...
There is a doctor who treats African-American people and herself with azelaic acid for melasma 😘
Help please, I just started Finacea 15% and my skin get itchy and tingling a lot. When applied I waited at least 5 mins for each layer of moisture and sunscreen but each time I apply another product on top it make my skin itchy over and over. I really don’t know what to do. 😢
Oh my!!!! So happy to be early 😍
Thanks for watching ❤
Can i use aha 15% before applying Skinoren? Just to speed up the process
Can I use a hyaluronic acid serum first and then the azelaic acid ?

Dr Bunting, my daughter age 15 had Covid19 over Easter and it seems to have triggered Rosacea which has not settled down. She has a lot of deep redness on her cheeks and is getting some broken capillaries. Would Azelaic work for someone her age?
Can I apply AA gel to damp skin right after a shower?

Thank you, great info x
Dr Bunting can you do a review on Particle Face cream for men. What they say it can do don't sound real
Dr. Please what is your thought on AEP session. Basically clarity peel
Hi could you do some video about hair care please
how would azelaic acid work with copper peptides (from the Ordinary) in the a.m.?
Have the same question
How many times per week should I use it (OTC for example 10%) to give it a chance to work in a visible way (for pigmentation mainly)?
As much as 2 times a day AM & PM. That’s how much she uses it & it’s at 10%, and not a prescriptive strength. I do too and my brand is called The Ordinary. Very reasonable price! She likes the brand too. She has other UA-cam videos on Azelaic
Can i used azelaic acid along with nachinamide?
Yes you can. For example our Brightly Serum contains Azelaic Acid and Niacinamide ❤
I LOVE the one from Paula's Choice ! I've used 4 of them and still use it everyday 🤍
Face Theory out of the UK makes a cosmetically elegant azelaic acid lotion.
@@ammonitelight Thank you! I was actually about to order from them but somehow the purchase got jinxed.
I'll try again.
@@ammonitelight I LOVE Lumizela!
I’m like, why me?!😭
Hi Dr.Sam. My morning routine consist of vit C and BHA2%. Can I still add in azelaic acid 20%? Thanks
Hi! It is best to use azelaic acid alone in your AM routine, BHA2% can be used on alternate days ❤
@@DrSamBunting Noted. Thanks Dr. Sam
Thank you!!
