    As an HVAC Tech I can tell you great video but a couple of tips. I know it’s tight and might not be possible in a lot of cars, I’m not mechanic but as for cleaning condenser coils, you should always wash from the inside out. Flush water through the coil with a medium pressure sprayer, be careful not to blast any fins off, use common sense. And soap from both sides. I will always recommend Nu-Calgon condenser cleaner. Also ALWAYS make sure to wash off ALL residual soap. These cleaners are all very strong and will melt metal over time especially aluminum fin tubes. Besides that great video👍🏻

      You want to rinse from back to front because most debris does not make it in too far. If you rinse from back to front, this debris will be easily removed. BUT, if you rinse from front to back, you may end up just lodging the debris further in the condenser.

      On most cars it's bolted on to the radiator or support brackets so you can loosen and clean behind it

    It’s been said a clean condenser reduces head pressure, thus easing the load on a older compressor. Also decreases time for cool air through the vents. This information taken from several AC professionals. Take it for what it’s worth.

    It will be great that if you can measure the coldest AC temperate before and after. Numbers will be more persuasive for people to see the differences.

      Doesn't mean much because the system allows the evaporator to only reach a certain temperature before cutting off cooling capacity in some way (compressor clutch disengagement or swash plate angle adjustment). What you need to look for after cleaning the condenser (and cleaning the evaporator or replacing the cabin filter too) is three things: 1)Compressor noise 2)Discharge pressure 3)How fast is the vent temperature reaching its coldest point.

      @Teravolt
      The AC system may limit the temperature on the low end. But this does not mean that the AC can necessarily bring the vent temperature down to the point that the compressor can cycle off under all conditions. For instance, on a 100 degree day, the ac may fail to bring the temperature low enough to cycle off the compressor. The same may be true even on cooler days if the AC is used with fresh rather than recirculated air. Before and after vent temperature measurements would absolutely be useful under these conditions. This is especially true if the AC can cycle on very hot days after cleaning the condenser when it couldn’t before.

    Excuse me if this has already been mentioned. Cleaning the condenser greatly reduces the pressure that the compressor needs to achieve in the AC refrigerant loop. You will see a drop in the pressure in red service port on the high pressure side. Less pressure equals less strain on the compressor equals prolonged service life for the compressor. Smart maintenance includes keeping the condenser clean.

  • @teravolt6113
    @teravolt6113 3 роки тому +4

    You have to keep it clean, but there's something else that often gets overlooked. A shiny clean cond coil is useless when not enough air is flowing through it. I had to get a new condenser fan motor as early as 73k of city driving. The old one was dying, and although cold/coldish air kept flowing from the vents and the fan itself seemed OK and didn't make any strange noise, the compressor was getting really noisy when stopped and during lo speed driving.

    • @carsondaniel3722
      @carsondaniel3722 7 років тому +9

      to be honest to clean the condenser unless it is really dirty won't improve cooling much. now any type of extra cooling system, be it co2 or just water mist will make a difference, not just in your ac either. and make sure your fans are running good, if you don't have a fan in your car, installing one will help temp a little to. now if you really want your ac yo run as cold and as hard as possible, you must get in there and clean the evaporator coil. it will be right next to the blower motor. just take the motor off and you can reach into evaporator box, and I guarantee there will be more than you expected. get a vacuum with a hose, and a old toothbtush.start vacuuming and breaking the bulk of the debris up with your hand. then use your brush to get into the corners and tight spaces. repeat until all debris is gone. then it's time to use your foam cleaner and get all the little fins in the evaporator unclogged and clean.

    Every time the task needs to remove bumper, wing or fender, I give up, at least for now. I don't have tools required. Besides, my car is an old Sunny 97 (Sunny and Sentra are very similar) where the bolts/screws seem hard to remove.
    So, perhaps, I can clean the condenser by accessing from somewhere without removing the bumper, although the result may not be optimal.
    Btw, there are some wiring and connectors around the condenser : for headlights, radiator fan, etc. Shouldn't we cover them before cleaning the condenser ?

After that I can clean the condenser from the radiator side pushing all of the crap out the same side it came in. Much better results that way . Other wise you're just pushing it deeper into the condenser.

    Man I wish I was had a garage, so I could do this. My ac blows cool air, not cold. Dealer said everything looks good. After 240k miles it's probably just a dirty condenser, guess I'll have to live with it until I get a newer truck or a house.

    • @teravolt6113
      @teravolt6113 6 років тому +1

      You don't need a garage at all. Just remove the bumper. Water is enough to give a good cleaning (just don't spray it with too much force, and spray it at a right angle with the fins, otherwise you risk benting them; spray it inside the space between the radiator and condenser also), you don't need to spray any chemicals at all, and if you see any bent fin try reshaping them in the proper shape. After you've done, seal off any gap between the condenser and the radiator so that only ambient air gets pulled through the condenser. If you have the correct refrigerant level and a system in good working order, your ac will be so cold that you'll have to keep the fan low and point the vents away from you to be comfortable. Also remember to clean the evaporator too or replace the cabin air filter if you have one. Managed to get ice cold ac and a quiet compressor on a 15 years old Vauxhall Agila this way.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  8 років тому +1

      Air dry is fine but there is a lot of water collected and you do want to make sure if are going to drive it, that air will pass through it for proper cooling.

    • @mileskelly9278
      @mileskelly9278 8 років тому +5

      This is actually an unnecessary step. The condenser will become hot enough to evaporate any water left on the coil. The evaporation of water on the coil will actually help cool down the condenser, creating less work for the compressor. Some sealed systems actually use the condensation produced from the evaporator to cool down the condenser.

    • @dial2fast
      @dial2fast  9 років тому +1

      +Paul Hood Perhaps not. Typically a clogged condenser will give you cold air while driving and warm when idling. Best to have a AC guy look at it so they can check the refrigerant level.

    • @sssssneaker
      @sssssneaker 8 років тому

      But when a condenser is clogged, it can't cool the refrigerant effectively so that could lead to too much pressure in the system. The compressor will turn off in this case so it doesn't blow up, but after a little while pressure can drop enough so that it's safe to turn itself back on again.

      Not quite true oddly enough the radiator can effect the condenser a few ways. It can stay hotter and warm the condenser and if it's gunked up obstruct air flow through the both of them. This would be more so at a stop or low speed though when the fans are doing most of the cooling. The condenser is in front almost every time and looks just like a smaller radiator which it effectively is.

    I will not say do not clean your automotive ac condenser but they are a lot different than home ac condensers. keep in mind that cars drive at high speeds in the rain. I have never cleaned any automotive condenser in 30 years. I have owned many cars and worked on many cars. quick spray for bugs is the most you have to do honestly. if the fins continuously get smashed then you will have to replace it. then once replaced stop tailgating cars. that is the quickest way to destroy the condenser and radiator and any coolers you may have. just ask my wife.

      Not the bumper. For bumper, yes. That's difference. Cushion is correct word.

      @@youtubeonly8574 Exactly and hate to break it to him quite a few if not most bumper covers have styrofoam behind them as well.

    how is difference in cooling ? before and after

    • @carsondaniel3722
      @carsondaniel3722 7 років тому

      although essential, the condenser doesnt actually have much to do with actually cooling the inside air, that's 95% the evaporator core, granted the freon is proper level.

    • @teravolt6113
      @teravolt6113 6 років тому

      Clean condenser and proper condenser airflow makes the compressor work quieter and the vent temperature get down faster in hot climate.

      +Ravi Annadurai When I cleaned mine, it wasn't that clogged to begin with. So not much difference, but the video will help those who does have a very dirty condenser.
