Malo lava Nef JP, nice seewing on this Podcast. Pray that you and the Family are doing well. My two cents on this subject is we should leave it to the individual who would want to change their citizenship, but epidite the process. Also, the quality of life for us here in Amerika Samoa is fine, but depends on the person. Great subject fellas' and keep up your "Behind the Lavalava" Podcast! Alofa tele atu from Amouli, American Samoa!🙏🤟❤
This issue rested solely on the people of American Samoa to vote on and then send it to Congress to authorize it and not the court. Like the supreme court said, "this is not the venue for this issue"., period.
My buddy on top left. No , you’re not getting it. If we become citizens. Not only US federal can do anything with our islands, we lose rights to our lands and policy
I think it could easily be compromised to keep the 'Aiga land situation, but you guys DESERVE us citizenship and the fact you don't even have an option to just get it by choice is completely ridiculous
@@terr1592 They deserve what they want, to be respected as citizens of their own country. They need their country to be respected as a sovereign country.
@@laborincana4490 I agree, this half ass approach is stupid. No one benefits, I believe Samoans should be respected as an independent entity while having the option to instantly get US Citizenship at anytime if they wish. And if such an agreement can't be met then they should be fully independent
I have no issue being a US National..im content wit American Samoa being a US territory..we all still have benefits from the U.S., while also holding strong to our land & culture..And i didnt like how that guy was dogging on the "quality of life" back home🙄..quality of life in American Samoa is perfectly fine back home..like for me, i actually had a way more healthier disciplined lifestyle back in Am.Samoa than over here in the states..yes, fix the corruption in the government, and fix the roads, the hospitals,etc..But we dont need all that extra fancy stuff in order to make our island more quality🙄..just look at Hawaii..we dont want to become like Hawaii, where their culture was hit big time..keep it FA'A SAMOA!
Slightly disagree with what you said abt us not needing those “extra fancy stuff” because in reality, we really do need them. Our island might be small, but the population is growing, and more people means the higher demand for better “quality of life”. You should know that bc people here are complaining about how badly our island needs improvement on certain things. True on keeping the Fa’asamoa, but you can’t deny that our island REALLY needs some extra fancy improvements🥲
As a mainlander, from Colorado, I believe all Americans born on soil of US sovereignty, should be US citizens, and should be equal as any U.S. citizen, either living in a territory or State. Including the right to vote for the President and have voting representation in Congress. I also believe that Fa’a Samoa can still work with being US citizens. Now I also believe that every US territory should become a State of the Union. Now about keeping culture and having US citizenship, you can look at the USVI, and Puerto Rico. Now I do think that if the residents of American Samoa choose to become US citizens, I believe that American Samoa should become A state. I do agree that American Samoa became a U.S. state, then the infrastructure will greatly improve, and quality of life would improve. Also thank you for your incite of this very interesting topic. Also thank you all for your Service.
Your statement is bs bcuz U.S.Citizen is by definition that the government and IRS is a government employee and they list the work that we do which is defined as wages and list it as income. Income is profits made through a business. If you notice the name on our ID’s is in all CAPITAL LETTERS which in law indicates as a business.
@@gregaboriginalximoor007 It’s not bs because that we’re citizens of a country, and that all of the residents who are born in the United States, whether that be district, state, or territory, should have the same rights as their fellow Americans. They should have the same protections under the Constitution, and have equal and fair representation in their government.
Now folks, let's dig in a little more. Both US Citizens and US Nationals are slaves to the United States (Corporate) United States gives you civil rights 14th amendment but you don't have God given rights that are in the Constitution of the United States of America.. I was born and raised in American Samoa and started researching because of the Utah case. Folks, really ask yourself why they don't want US Citizenship for American Samoa? Why did the Biden administration ask the Supreme Court to not hear the case of the Utah folks? The federal government position was that American Samoa is not in the United States.. WHAT THE WHAT?!?!? And let's not forget our own American Samoa government agreeing...
@@ljtago55 Now that’s just messed up. I believe American Samoa is / should be an integral part of the United States, as a territory, and hopefully later on a U.S. state. The residents of American Samoa should be US citizens since American Samoa is sovereign American Soil.
I’m moving to American Samoa very soon. I need the Sunshine & here in Winter you don’t see it much. I love Samoa a lot I lived in Samoa & want to move there now.
I am Proud to say I am full blooded Samoan born a raised in American Samoa in the town of Fagatogo. I speak write and read my language. land, culture, family unity and in GOD WE TRUST is what Samoan US national is all about. American Samoa is more Americanized then the us. Our first language is English. We still sing the national anthem in the mornings and pay respect to our flag of United State of America before we start school. We shouldn't have to sign Papers to get rights to vote. Just saying.
If the price of citizenship is giving up the land tenure system we have, then it's a hard pass for me. Keep our land in Tutuila, Aunu'u, Ta'u, Ofu & Olosega Samoan owned.
This is all great points but you should dig a little more why American Samoa and the Swain's Island are only two islands that are classified US National or Non Citizen National. And yes there's a reason why they will never change the status of American Samoa to US citizenship. Again, don't take my word for it do your research.
A U.S. Citizen is a government employee. A U.S. Citizen is also one who makes income and income is generated by a business & this is why when you work a job they list your WAGES as INCOME bcuz based on that you are agreeing that your wages have been converted into income of which it is not. You also give up your rights to claim your full property also known as your money that you make from a job. If anyone is born within the 50 union states should not pay income taxes and if they don’t want to opt into paying Medicare and social security taxes they can easily avoid that as well.
No US National is strength, pride, and believe who we are is the reason why we are US NATIONAL my friend. Look up our real history and you will see that we was not going to allow anyone to have control over the hearts of all Polynesian Island is American Samoa 🇼🇸. God bless you all!
Let me say this…..there is a procedure that will allow all who are of the Americas to be tax free on all levels regardless of if you are from an island 🏝️ of America or otherwise. You guys just haven’t been asking the right questions and or being associated with the right Moors to have that discussion to put you on game so that you’re not spinning your wheels 🛞

Sorry but if Americans Samoa, become US Citizen, Say GOOD BUY to your land and Island, ASKED HAWAIIAN ABOUT That 😂😂😂 GOD BLESS you guys
💯 agreed

Absolutely no. Proud to be a U.S. National.
And whoever made the statement about U.S. citizens and U.S. Nationals being one and the same is absolutely right. 👍🏽👍🏽
No because we'd lose our lands. Lose our identity.lose our right to live in our own land. Native Americans and Hawaiians should be the example
