Going through my college degrees I came across accounts that Newton possibly wrote more on Theology than he ever did on physics. Which came as quite a shock to a physics major like myself who had been working with his ideas for years at that point

Yes, Newton researched his own biblical timeline, too, slightly different from that produced by Archbishop Ussher. Newton was also a believer in phlogiston, nearly a century before Lavoisier helped to put a nail in that antiquated idea. *_PLUS: Newton was a Unitarian; not a Trinitarian._*

Back then it wasn't called "science." It was known as "Natural Philosophy" and was seen as a form of worship, an extension of one's faith in God. We study the two books: the book of God's Word (Bible), and the book of God's Works (that is, his creation.)
Scriptures like Romans 1;20 sparked the scientific revolution.

Has anyone ever told you what "hallelujah" means? Praise Jah! "Jah" is short for Jehovah (both are used in the Bible). Newton used the Latinized version of that name, "Iehova". Bible translations will translate "hallelujah" in the Hebrew Scriptures, a.k.a. the Old Testament, as "Praise the LORD" or "Praise the Lord", yet they leave it as "hallelujah" in the Christian Greek Scriptures, a.k.a. the New Testament. Why are they keeping information from their reader and won't translate it correctly? God's name "Jehovah" is used almost 7000 times in the Bible. Why does the _KJV_ only have it 4 times (not counting when the name is combined with another name or expression)? Why do many newer popular translations, such as the _NIV_ not even have that name 1 time? See Jeremiah 23:25-28 (preferrably in a translation that does not substitute God's name with "the LORD" or "God"), in particular verse 27. The _ASV_ is a translation that will use "Jehovah" in its rightful location in at least the Hebrew Scriptures (such as in Jeremiah). The _NWT_ has restored God's name also in the Christian Greek Scriptures, especially in those locations where the Hebrew Scriptures are quoted.

@@Uenbg Dear Jehovah Witness, there is no j in ancient Hebrew. That's why, if they did write the name of the LORD, it would be with a y instead. But since we don't know the precise pronunciation, we abbreviate to YHWH. J we get from Latin. Greek would have an I. Jesus in Greek would be transliterated Iesous or iesus. Again no j. This is one reason there is so much confusion. Since our English language is a product of Greek, Latin, French from the 11th century onward, and various Germanic we term Anglo-Saxon, the letters have changed in pronunciation, added new letters, dropped letters from thousands of words and so forth...Translators have different strategies when translating depended on today's language patterns and which words we now use to express the same ideas. I would advise you to be aware of the intentions of various translators except where they have changed the content or context entirely. So, with respect, the NWT changed John 1:1. Compare to other translations, not just the KJB. Love you brother, may the LORD(Adonai, Jehovah, Yahweh) bless you and keep you.

What is ironic about Einstein, and the scientific establishment, to Einstein's credit, is that he only won a Nobel Prize for *_safe science,_* and Relativity -- the breakthrough for which he is *_most famous_* did NOT win him that prize. PLUS, Einstein despised "peer review" before publication. When you study this carefully, you see all the fingerprints of Leftist Tyranny n the push for peer review. ‭‭Romans‬ ‭1:20‭-‬25‬
"For since the creation of the world his invisible attributes - his eternal power and divine nature - have been clearly seen, because they are understood through what has been made. So people are without excuse.
For although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or give him thanks, but they became futile in their thoughts and their senseless hearts were darkened.
Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for an image resembling mortal human beings or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles.
Therefore God gave them over in the desires of their hearts to impurity, to dishonor their bodies among themselves.
They exchanged the truth of God for a lie and worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen."

While studying Electrical Engineering at UCLA in the 1980s, I took a course "The History of Science" (taught by Prof. Wise). I was a young believer at the time and was THRILLED and encouraged to learn the great Newton was also a believer. We read some of his writings where he argued, basically, that the Universe follows laws (such as planetary motion), and if there are laws there must be a Law Giver. Basically the order of the universe proved God.
I later learned that other scientists, including Michael Faraday (who had an immeasurable impact on my life) were incredibly strong believers. This greatly encouraged me through my studies as i realized that a study of physics is a study of the handiwork of God, and the application of the corresponding math is to think the thoughts of God.
Engraved on Kinsey hall - the original physics building at UCLA - is a quote from Michael Faraday Knowing he was a Christian it greatly encouraged and strengthened me as an undergrad and continues to speak to me today - "Nothing is too wonderful to be true."
Thank you for posting Prof. Tour. (And perhaps you should think about teaching a History of Science class).

In his Theological Notebook, Newton gave three major headings: “Deus Pater” (God the Father), “Deus Filius” (God the Son), and “Spiritus Sanctus Deus” (God the Holy Spirit). All three Persons of the Godhead are considered in his own handwriting. He called it “Attributa dei” (Attributes of God), and the first part relates to “Deus Pater” (God the Father).

This is a bit misleading. Newton rejected the Trinity doctrine based on his studies of the scriptures. From the Oxford University regarding Newton’s views: “he developed the heterodox view that the doctrine of the Trinity was a diabolical corruption of true Christianity introduced by Athanasius and his henchmen in the Fourth Century CE.”

@@kgmail7364 He certainly did show where he was, especially when on his knees in the garden of Gethsemane praying and then being strengthened when an angel came down to him (highlighted in Luke 22:43). Hebrews 5:7 refers to this occasion where it talks about his tears and outcries and was heard by the one that was able to save him. I also like the time when Jesus is questioned in Mark 10:17 and referred to as ‘good teacher’, a seemingly harmless expression, but Jesus would not take this unnecessary glory and directed it to GOD. John 12:49 quotes Jesus as saying that he was commanded what to say and did not speak from himself.
In summary Hebrews 5:8 points out Though he were a Son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered’. That is why it describes him in perfect obedience in verse 9. Jesus was perfect in obedience in heaven and then also on earth, tested in both areas and as it says in verse 9 and 10 he became responsible for everyone’s salvation, a position given to him by GOD. That is until 1 Corinthians 15:24, 28 is realised when all things have been subjected/subdued, then Jesus will subject himself to GOD.

Excellent program gentlemen. The starting point for the 2300 year prophecy under consideration by Newton was the 457bc decree by Artaxerxes. There were two prior decrees by Cyrus and Darius. Cyrus only included the temple. Darius mainly addressed the opposers to the work. These three decrees have an anti-type in the three angel's messages of Revelation 14. There was a 4th decree to which enabled Nehemiah to "finish" the work. It corresponds to the 4th angel of Revelation 18. You gentlemen have stumbled onto a gold mine of truth, by God's providence. May God bless your studies. Pastor Stephen Bohr, of SumTV has a wealth of information on this topic should you be inclined to seek more light.

Thank you Dr. James Tour to your family and your great team for all the wonderful work you are doing for the Kingdom of God, you live today, and you are seeing tomorrow the glorious days of the Kingdom of God from afar.
What makes people not accept the Lord Jesus' eternal life in their hearts and live forever as God's children?
Because they are gluttons and want self-respect.
All of us who know the laws of nature originate from a small thing which is a "seed or thought". Similarly, when we see it in the spiritual world, everything spiritual originates from a small seed or thought.
The reason I bring this up
Because the principle of all people on this earth is to fill their bellies and gain self-respect.
But what does the Bible say about filling the belly or gaining earthly glory?
Not only is it different from what secular people do, it also says that those who are gluttonous and self-respecting will not have eternal life.
A good example of this is Eve.
A voice from the devil, the enemy of the soul, directedly came to mislead Eve, aimed at her stomach. The Bible says so.
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
    (Gen 3 :1)
When Eve answered the question thrown by the devil about how she could fill her stomach, she said this.
And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. (Gen 3 :3)
But the enemy misled Eve and answered this
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die
    (Gen 3 :4)
Eve, who was deceived by the enemy's tricks and thoughts, listened to the words of the enemy instead of the words of God, and sold her eternal life for her belly and her self-respect.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took off the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. (Gen 3 :6)
    1) Eve first saw that the fruit was good for her stomach, which meant for her physical body.
    2) It was pleasing to the eyes. This is for her soul.
    3) She knows that it will make her wiser for her spiritual body.
It was for this reason that Eve was separated from God
It is surprising that the enemy, the devil, presented the same questions to the Lord Jesus when he was on earth.
    1) Turning the stone into bread, which is a stomach test for the physical body.
    2) Throwing himself from a temple, a test of the soul
    3) and submitting to Satan in exchange for power Worship is a spiritual challenge.
Even in this age, to all human beings, whether they are earthly beings or spiritual beings, no one escapes this kind of test.
    The Bible says
A gluttonous person with no dignity and respect. Because they are gluttons, their country is their stomach. Not only this but also, When they die or separate their soul from their physical body , they will disappear forever, because their god is their belly.
Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is set on earthly things.
    (Philippians 3:19)
Put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony" (Proverbs 23:2)
"Food for the stomach and the stomach for food"--but God will destroy them both. ( 1 Corinthians 6 )

They were absolutely slavering to get their hands on them, but when Newton's descendants gave them to Cambridge (Newton's alma mater and where he had been a professor) they were disturbed to find that he was a Christian who delved deeply into Bible prophecy and studied ancient historians to find unadulterated accounts what ancient king had done what and so know better the meanings of Daniel's prophecies. HE was sharply critical of well known Bible historians who had not done this and had gone down the wrong road, or repeated faulty ancient history accounts. This was so discomfiting to the Cambridge elites, that they needed to get rid of those writings. But how? They could not just burn them because there was a big problem. The donor was wealthy powerful member of the English aristocracy, an Earl called Lord Portsmouth. If they were to inquire about access to the collection, Cambridge would be in trouble. So they came up with a plan. They theorized 'What if we just give the ones we don't want, back to them? We could claim that we are only interested in his science writings."
Nevermind that Cambridge itself was founded as a theological seminary and even from an historical perspective, historians would have been fascinated about this facet of Newton. Certainly Cambridge had core history professors at the time who would have been VERY interested, and Cambridge could not afford to have this information about Newton taught at Cambridge, let alone the wider world. In fact Cambridge has effectively kept this secret all these years until recently when they had no other choice. So by giving the writings they didn't like back, they could personally censor his writings on a page by page basis, which is what they carefully did. No mention or even copies of Newton's prophecy writings were even made by them. By giving them back, they did the next best thing to a garbage can. The Christian and other less accepted science writings which they frowned upon, were returned. The Christian writings outnumbered his science writings. Yes, you read that correctly. In fact, even today these elites write only this terse sentence (which they wish they could omit altogether) on the subject on Cambridge's website about Newton's personal papers. It says:
"The remainder of the Newton papers, many concerned with alchemy, theology and chronology, were returned to Lord Portsmouth."
That's all they have to say on the subject to this very day. They effectively stifled this information for around 100 years. By the way even today Wikipedia lumps Newton's alchemy writings together with his Bible prophecy writings and calls them "Newton's Occult Writings". There you have it folks. More brazen even than Cambridge, Wikipedia labels Bible prophecies as "Occult."
Later, in the 1930's the family attempted to sell the writings at Sotheby's auction house. Of the serious bidders bid for them, Abraham Sholom Yahuda, a rare books dealer and collector was most prominent. Yahuda himself was scathing about the “Museums & Libraries” that had failed to secure the manuscripts for Britain and bragged that with the upcoming tercentenary of Newton’s birth in 1942, the papers would soon be worth five or ten times what he had paid for them. He bought as many lots as possible including from other buyers at a 20% commission. By this time the Nuremburg laws had stripped Jews of basic rights. Yahuda began to grasp what Newton's comprehension about Daniel's prophecies meant for the Jews and he was excited about this, feeling that they were hopeful for them.
But instead of publishing the papers, he instead began to interpret them according to his own worldview that was decidedly ecumenical. He escaped to London and spent the war there. He wrote ABOUT Newton's writings picking and choosing what he wanted, and interpreting his ideas onto them. He died in 1951 in Saratoga Springs, NY, having collected far more Islamic writings than nearly anyone living, which he donated to Yale, for example. Meanwhile Newton's papers were donated by his widow to the Jewish National and University Library at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. But the cataloguing dragged on for years, and when she died in 1955, a lawsuit by one of his sons over ownership dragged through courts until 1966 when the Supreme Court of Connecticut ruled that the collection should be donated to the library at Hebrew University. And so they were all crated up and sent there. They in turn had so little interest in these writings that they were not exhibited until 2006!!
Even today, Cambridge's rival, Oxford does a very good job making all Newton's writings available online without prejudice, in part I suspect because of Cambridge's shameful history even to this day. Here's to Oxford.
For the record, Newton has some strange ideas about the prophecies that are patently false and will no doubt end up as internet fodder for false teachers to run with in sensational videos. But I hope this little history gives you reading this a more detailed view on the subject.

    From another website:
Newton’s principal reason for rejecting the Trinity was that when he sought to verify the statements of the creeds and the councils he found no support in Scripture for the doctrine.
In weighing this evidence, Newton firmly held that reasoning should be used. He argued that nothing created by God was without purpose and reason, and Bible teachings would be sustained by similar application of logic and reason. Speaking of the apostle John’s writings, Newton said: “I have that honour for him as to believe that he wrote good sense; and therefore take that sense to be his which is the best.”11 So, as a second reason for rejecting the Trinity teaching, Newton declared: “Homoousion [the doctrine that the Son is of the same substance as the Father] is unintelligible. ’Twas not understood in the Council of Nice, nor ever since. *What cannot be understood is no object of belief.”12*
Dealing with this same aspect of the Trinity is a Newton manuscript entitled “Queries Regarding the Word Homoousios.” It reveals a third reason for his denial of the Trinity. This teaching was not part of early Christianity. Queries twelve to fourteen all highlight the doctrine’s lack of original first-century character:
“Query 12. Whether the opinion of the equality of the three substances was not first set on foot in the reign of Julian the Apostate [361-363 C.E.], by Athanasius, Hilary, etc.?
Query 13. Whether the worship of the Holy Ghost was not first set on foot presently after the Council of Sardica? [343 C.E.]
Query 14. Whether the Council of Sardica was not the first Council which declared for the doctrine of the Consubstantial Trinity?”13
In another manuscript, now preserved in Jerusalem, Newton summed up the only answer to such questions. “We are commanded by the Apostle (2 Timothy 1:13) to hold fast the form of sound words. Contending for a language which was not handed down from the Prophets and Apostles is a breach of the command and they that break it are also guilty of the disturbances and schisms occasioned thereby. It is not enough to say that an article of faith may be deduced from scripture. It must be exprest in the very form of sound words in which it was delivered by the Apostles.” 14
So on the basis of Scripture, reason and the authentic teaching of early Christianity, Newton found that he could not accept the doctrine of the Trinity. He believed strongly in the supreme sovereignty of Jehovah God, and the proper position of Jesus Christ, neither derogating him as the Son of God nor elevating him to the position occupied by his Father.15 In discussing with John Locke the passage of Daniel 7:9, he wrote, “Whence are you certain that ye Ancient of Days is Christ? Does Christ anywhere sit upon ye Throne?”16 His own conclusion here is obvious, and the clarity of his thought regarding the relationship of the Father with the Son is always evident in Newton’s writings. So elsewhere he makes the point that prayer can be made to “God in the name of the Lamb, but not to the Lamb in the name of God.”17
Perhaps the best summary of Isaac Newton’s Scriptural arguments for his repudiation of the Trinity is found in fourteen ‘Argumenta,’ written in Latin, giving Bible citations for many of them. Numbers four to seven are particularly interesting:
“4. Because God begot the Son at some time, he had not existence from eternity. Proverbs 8:23, 25.
    5. Because the Father is greater than the Son. John 14:28.
    6. Because the Son did not know his last hour. Mark 13:32, Matt. 24:36, Rev. 1:1, 5:3.
    7. Because the Son received all things from the Father.”18
A perusal of Newton’s religious writings cannot fail to impress the reader with their thoroughness, and a realization of his long and deep meditation, his scholarly ability and grasp of the original Bible languages. His conclusions regarding the Trinity therefore merit our respect and consideration, even though he did not feel constrained to make them public during his lifetime.
Today, when much more evidence is available than Newton had access to, we too should make investigation of our beliefs as he did, always seeking to reason first on the evidence of God’s Word. This will build in us a strong faith fully in harmony with the teaching of original Christianity.

Coming back to the bolded phrase (the following is taken from the article "Is Jesus God?" published in _The Watchtower,_ April 2009; just the first section).
MANY people view the Trinity as “the central doctrine of the Christian religion.” According to this teaching, the Father, Son, and holy spirit are three persons in one God. Cardinal John O’Connor stated about the Trinity: “We know that it is *a very profound mystery, which we don’t begin to understand.”* Why is the Trinity so difficult to understand?
_The Illustrated Bible Dictionary_ gives one reason. Speaking of the Trinity, this publication admits: “It is not a biblical doctrine in the sense that any formulation of it can be found in the Bible.” Because the Trinity is “not a biblical doctrine,” Trinitarians have been desperately looking for Bible texts-even twisting them-to find support for their teaching.

Newton made some very spot on theological observations that believers today could benefit from. One such observation is Newton’s explanation of the “holy holy holy” proclamations of the living creatures. Newton explained that in the Jewish temple, trumpets sounded 3 times daily-at the opening of the gates, at the morning sacrifice, and at the evening sacrifice. And the 24 elders in heaven described in Revelation correspond to the 24 courses of the priests in the Jewish temple worship and the 24 representatives of people. Because the morning and evening sacrifices were offered for all the people, those who sacrifices were offered were obliged to be present in the temple. So the Israelites had 24 representatives to attend each week in order. Something else that Newton explained about Jewish worship in the temple will correct many misunderstandings today about the 7 trumpets and 7 bowls in the Book of Revelation. At the morning and evening sacrifices in the Jewish temple, as soon as the sacrifice was laid upon the altar, the drink offering began to be poured out simultaneously as the trumpets sounded. So the 7 bowls being poured out and the 7 trumpets sounding in Revelation are simultaneous events, not chronological in order as many mistakenly believe.
Another observation that believers could benefit from today is Newton’s thought on Daniel’s 70 weeks prophecy. Daniel’s 70 weeks is broken up into a 62 week period, a 7 week period, and a 1 week period. Many believers today mistakenly combine the 62 and 7 week periods to come up with a 69 week period. Newton correctly pointed out that combining the 62 and 7 weeks together does violence to the words of Daniel. If Daniel meant a 69 week period, he would have said so. This common sense exposes the error of many believers today who try and force into Scripture something which is not there.

Regarding The Two Witnesses of Revelation, Newton had much to say. My main takeaway is that Newton saw them as corporate symbols, just as the candlesticks symbolized a group of people. They are Smyrna and Philadelphia, and they represent the worldwide church. They are "witnesses" because they testify against wicked men. Their resurrection and ascension is The Great Revival! The cloud that they ascend in is the great multitude of people (the Palm-bearing multitude which no man could number) to be converted all over the world by this Revival and universal preaching of the Gospel. The End can not come until the Gospel is preached as a witness unto all nations (Matthew 24:14).

For much of the last phase of his academic life, Einstein worked on two endeavors that proved ultimately unsuccessful. Firstly, he advocated against quantum theory's introduction of fundamental randomness into science's picture of the world, objecting that "God does not play dice".[18] Secondly, he attempted to devise a unified field theory by generalizing his geometric theory of gravitation to include electromagnetism too. As a result, he became increasingly isolated from the mainstream of modern physics.

Dr. Tour, thank you for bringing light to the theological expositions of the brilliant Isaac Newton. As a person who spent several weeks of evening studies on his theological writings as soon as I discovered they were available on line, I need to point out a slight misstatement you made around the 19.40 mark in your video. Newton did not say the end (of the age) is going to come between the year 2,000 and 2050. His calculations based on the 1260 year timeline in the Book of Daniel indicated to him that the end could not come before the end of the Holy Roman Empire, which would not be before at least the year 2060 - possibly later, but not before, his calculations indicated.
From a deep look into his dating of what he considers the foundation of the beginning of the Holy Roman Empire, I think it is possible he has it pushed forward a few decades, indicating that the end date could be earlier. But I am not Isaac Newton.

He was a polymath, he would reject nothing, he would wanna read as much as he could about something and investigate first. Most people of his era were polymaths. People back then hadn't figured out everything, the way modern scientists did, so not only they knew they know nothing, they also had no other basis to stand on, ok maybe they had a few things here and there, maybe they had Pythagoras, I don't know, but still... a ton of unknowns, they were humble in the way they would see the world, they would read about all and everything, there was no other way. If this has to include alchemy, then so be it. What philosophies are completely opposed? Alchemy and mathematics? Who told you so? Modern science? Alchemy was arguably the precursor of chemistry and there was chemistry in it. And if you look at the world, there's mathematics in physics and chemistry, there's chemistry in physics (astrophysics), there's physics in chemistry. So who is the fool here? Newton? I doubt it.

Alchemy? George Gilder in his 2018 book Life After Google explains that Newton’s alchemical efforts centered around trying to make gold out of base metals-only to prove that gold could not be created that way. Why bother? Because Newton needed to confirm that gold could dependably back the British Pound as sound money.

Really enjoyed this. Thank you James. Much to take away from this. You open saying that Isaac Newton was a "devout Christian". I tend to agree. Not just in his commitment to Bible study and praise of God the Creator and Christ as true Messiah....but in certain lifestyle habits. An eg? In compliance with Acts 15:²⁸,²⁹ he refused to eat black pudding because it was made with "blood"...and he would not eat rabbits because they had been "strangled". He was also well known for generous giving to others. Acts 20:³⁵ (Newton by Peter Ackroyd p.144) True, he didn't accept the orthodox dogma of the Trinity....but a devout "Christian" is by definition, one who imitates and FOLLOWS Christ... and so, worships the One Christ himself worshipped. Matthew 4 ⁸-¹⁰. John 20:¹⁷

On the cross Jesus experienced hell within the period of three hours. There are many ways of reasoning the doctrine of the trinity. However I have learned a lot from him namely about his discipline

Isaac Newton refused the rights of the Anglican Church on his death bed because he disagreed with their theological doctrines. His faith was as hard-fought and genuine as they come; he refused to trust the fate of his soul to the church or the doctrines of man, but instead the divinely revealed Word of God. He lived in a time where your faith could get you banished or killed (not so different now if you really think about it), so he did his best to keep his faith honestly and sincerely without being totally removed from society.

When Newton studied the prophecies in the book of Daniel chapter 2 and 7 in connection with Revelation 13 (and other chapters) he came to the conclusion that the Roman Catholic Church was exposed there as being the anti-Christian power spoken of in the Bible. Here he was in line with all the early reformers in this view, and I agree! There is no other way to interpret it unless we adopt the Jesuit way of reading. They came up with new ways to interpret these prophecies in order to counteract the Protestant view that completely exposed the Papacy as the Antichrist power.
The prophecy reveals that the same papal power that ruled Europe in the Middle Ages, and also persecuted the Christians will rise again and become great by deception through the political and spiritual influence from the fallen Protestant churches in the United States who have ended the protest and united with Rome.
When Newton wrote his interpretations America was not yet a powerful nation, so therefore he could not get “the second beast” of Revelation 13 correct.

John Maynard Keynes (pronounced kaynz) is one of the most famous economists ever, if not the most, and considered the father of macroeconomics. Alchemy was a very early form of Chemistry and an attempt to produce precious metals, like gold, from base materials. Keynes' interest in Newton's writings on Alchemy was most likely rooted in the history of economic thought, since in the early Mercantilist period (16th century), precious metals were thought to be the source of all wealth. By Keynes' time, this was considered nonsense, and precious metals were recognized as a sign, or product, of wealth, not the source. Keynes also used the term, "statistical alchemy" to derisively describe the then emerging sub field of econometrics (the application of statistics in economics) because he was deeply skeptical of economic empiricism. That is, he did not believe the data was adequate nor statistical techniques robust enough to accurately reflect the complexities of economic systems.

A Creator God would also create the science of His creation thus there can be no “God vs. Science.” Only atheists have the right to separate the two. But that doesn’t make them right nor non-religious. Their god is simply science itself and thus themselves.
