- There was a lot of anticipation for this Nantucket send but I COULD NOT expect what went down in this very video. NOT ONLY did I landed the largest fish of my entire life by ALOT, but I also had the privilege to come face to face with an ancient fish 5 times my age and strength. Not only that, but Tag it for Research and Conservation of this species. There is something so incredible about staring your foe in the face and sending him on his way after a lengthy 2hr beach battle. Huge thank you to Elliot and Ray for giving us the opportunity to collect some amazing content this past week and showing us a sliver of what they do on a daily basis.

I'm no marine biologist, but the fact that they only recently started seeing these rays in the area indicates to me that there must be a healthy breeding population. That, or they've been there the entire time but people only recently started noticing. Hopefully it's not a sign of declining food sources in other areas where they come from. What an incredible animal! It'd be a HUGE honor for me to be able to fight and catch a 100 year old + fish.

When those big rays stick to the bottom, give em a couple little guitar string twangs on your line. They hate it. Can get them moving if nothing else works. Can do the same thing with sharks if you're trying to turn one. Results may vary.

I worked over 25 minutes to pull in a 23 lb. red fish at the mouth of the St. John's river in Florida 7 years ago when I was 55 years old. I was totally dogged out tired after landing that fiesty sucker. When I saw you were at 45 minutes and still at it, all my muscles cried for you. LOL. So cool for this to be the first video of yours that I watched. I may have to subscribe. Well done! Definitely a thumbs up from me.
Great video! Sick....just Sick! Caught a 20 Lb. cow-nosed ray on a bass rod....thanks grandpa...as he hands the rod to me. 45 minutes later I landed it......12 Lb test....ugh. My dad and Grandpa were 100 yards away when I landed it.........drinking cold beverages I brought....in the shade!!!!! Love outer banks fishing:)

@@ryanwright8715 Oh God, don't remind me. He USED to be a Steeler until he went crazy, quit showing up for practice and games, and they told him to go fack himself. It's sad to have watched such an awesome NFL player just fall apart like that. He was very well liked here in Pittsburgh because he was so good. Hell, he was with is for 8 years and was about to be offered another huge contract, but he didn't want to be with the Steelers anymore, so he just quit showing up.

An old Australian Aboriginal trick that I learnt for easily catching any size ray, when the line is as tight as you dare then you pluck the line like a guitar string a couple of times, like 3 or 4 times. They don't like the vibration, it causes them to be unsettled and so they don't suck to the bottom. I've caught a few rays, some before I knew the trick (the hard way), and some after knowing the trick and it has worked both times I've caught a ray.

Someone told me mustard slathered on , wrap in foil grill. Slid out of foil half way if it's not flaky (lrg) cook a bit longer. Don't tell the haters and see what happens.

Bluefish tacos...Grilled preferably, orange juice, lemon juice for marinade. Mango salsa. NO BUTTER. Can use small strips of cabbage if you want. Cilantro...basically anything you like. And, an ice cold beer.

Ray's are easily some of the coolest fish out there.

Nathaniel Merrill handling rays is not so bad if you know what your doing. With smaller ones you flip them onto their backs so your safe from the barb. Rays are good eating. Most Australians are 50/50 on Steve, you either loved or hated him. Great work that he did, but damn, we don’t talk like he did, seriously.

Steve Erwin was denied entry to the Northern Territory to film for his show because the government, NT Parks and Game officers decided that he was to reckless and lax with safety when dealing with crocodiles and snakes. The wildlife parks also didn’t want anything to do with his show because again he was too reckless for them to risk their insurance.

I hooked one in my float tube on San Diego bay close to naval Station. It was only about 3 Feet wingspan. It pulled me where ever it wanted, I had to kick to the shore and finish fight with it, Best fight of my life!

Jon- to cut down on the strong taste of the Bluefish. Cut across the bottom of it's gills and put it in a bucket of water to bleed it, then get it iced down quickly.

An old trick if a ray sucks on the bottom is to get your line as tight as possible then pluck the line the vibrations go down the line and irritates the rays mouth ,then it will move !! Thanks dad.
