I don't get why the resistor will have any effect on the rise time of the signal. The maximum voltage will get lower, but the rise time will be the same, since it is just an Ohmic resistor.

The load will have some capacitance and there will be parasitic capacitance along the line so a series resistor essentially turns it into a RC low-pass filter. Increasing the resistance increases the RC time constant.

      @@karolus8517 that now makes sense!

@flienky well crud, guess I should have clarified that! But yes, @karolus is spot on, it's an RC filter

@@flienky also, more often than not you're driving FETs or CMOS and then the main source of the capacitance is clearer - the gate capacitance of the FET. You probably have encountered gate resistors on FETs - they are there to limit and control the rise and fall time. I thought I'd add that because it's something you might already be familiar with! But all loads will have capacitance, whether it's been wires or the PN junction between the base and emitter of a BJT. Death, taxes and parastic reactance.

I'm curious to know what will happen in EMI signature if we put that series more closer towards the load. will those harmonics increase radiation increase or decrease?

Great video, thanks for sharing! It would be nice to also analyze the impact of termination resistors in terms of signal integrity.

Great video and demos. I'm curious if a well selected series inductor would perform better and provide steeper roll-off. I might have to build some test circuits and tinker

Well explained, I always like to watch videos that are based on basic theory, easy to watch and great for maintaining my understanding if I do not use it often. I sometimes like to pre-empt your explanation before you state it which tell me I am not brain dead yet. :)
