I still say both Magic Square and Takara/Tomy have missed a trick by not including a G1 Toy accurate head ( Optimus with the wider yellow eyes against the dark blue ). For the Toy Deco version, I think the Masterpiece wins out over MS, even though the normal Light Of Peace wins out as more cartoon accurate.
Official vs 3rd party around the similar price, this is no brainer. The official are collectables, the 3rd party just looks good. If you can only get 1 you have to get the official, because in a few month, the price is going to get higher.
I missed out on Mp-44 the 1st time around so im considering mp-44s . I think it looks better without the stickers . And it looks alot nicer then in promo pictures

Thanks to this video I put the stickers on my MP44s. But I only put the toes and the knees on. I didn't want to cover up the translucent red plastic inserts in the wrists with a sticker. The stickers are much more precisely cut than the ones for Missing Link Prime. Originally I was cautious about putting stickers on MP44s because I didn't like that sloppiness in the stickers for CS1
0:56 I'm not surprised MS released on top of an MP-44, their first MP Prime was announced after MP-44 and released around the same time. They are just repeating their own history there. Transform Element also did the same thing with MP-44.
This may be why the mp line is moving to mpg. The sculpt is super clean. I have the mp44s but seriously thought about getting the earlier ms variant based on mp44.
MP-44S should have had a point deducted for having STICKERS! Or at least MS-02TC should have gotten a point in the paint category for painting the toy-style decals onto the figure instead of cheeping out and going with stickers. At this price point it is completely unacceptable for the MAIN SELLING POINT OF THIS REPAINT to be a sheet of stickers that you have to apply for yourself. If I wanted to decorate my MP-44 with stickers I woulda gone to ToyHax.
The only point I would disagree with is the point for paint. I think the fact that MS pad printed the paint accents instead of stickers, I would give them the point. I passed on the MP 44 repaint and grabbed the MS version and am very happy with it. Thanks Sony.

I've wanted to try out one of these molds but am still on the fence due to both having joint issues. MS has those shoulder ratchets that apparently wear out, and takara has the possibly knee issues.
So this so this is a 220 dollar figure. With no trailer and all the accessories. Where as the original ver 3 MP optimus is 500 dollars including the trailer and accessories. That means, YOU ARE PAYING 225 DOLLARS FOR A TRAILER AND ACCESSORIES!!!
im ok with the trailer and the roller, but i dont need the witwicky family dolls, the starscream head, the rocket backpack, the damaged replacing pieces... i have MP44, and never took those things outside the box once i bought it. all these things are useless and you must pay for them if you want the trailer. ive ordered a KO mp44 trailer before i bought a real one (for my MS02), but it seems will never come.
I cancelled MP-44 as Magic Square MS-02TC is good enough for me. Paint could be better though but this is MS we're talking about. I would had preferred how they painted MS-01 as that's far superior to this iteration. Now, when Fans Toys comes out with theirs, which I pre-ordered, they might be the new best Optimus Prime as I know they'll have better paint and quality compared to Magic Square.
Takara all the way. It is the best prime. I have MS-02 TE-01 and all the other primes you can imagine which I love and are great but don’t hit the spot like MP-44s does and the KOMP44 which are all trash !! Don’t buy them. But the official MP-44s is amazing made well and transforms well it’s also like anime come to life it’s like the marvel comic toy prime and it’s like the 1985 G1 Annual Cover prime it’s just the best prime and I prefer it to the first MP-44 I like It so much I bought 2 MP-44s and it looks the most like prime to me in hand it just has some magic about the proportions and yes he has a backpack but he should he’s chunky in the cartoons and I actually like it like that. Still love MP-10 though haha
Definitely MS for me. The 44 alt mode is ugly as hell in the back where the 5th wheel is. Also, it looked like MS doubled up on the point comparison? Either way, great comparison, Sony. Thanks
Honestly looking at the tampo details on my copy of the MS and yours in the video... I really don't like them. They feel stretched and also washed out, and have an odd texture.
i have both. highly recommanding MP-44S, if you can afford it. the transformation of MS02 IS TERRIBLE. dont confuse by the simple engineering, transforming it perfectly is a challenge. though MP44 mold is more complex, it feels much easier while transformation. otherwise, the articulation, though MS02 have a huge ab crunch range and full articulating fingers, MP44 could swing its ab to left or right while MS02 couldnt do, that really helps a lot when posing. those two both have top tier articulation, it should be a tie. and rachet joints of MS02 sucks. it feels really weird and soft. as a conclusion, MP44S has a much better transformation experience, and equally good articulation as MS02. MS02 is cheaper, and has a better alt mode. the bed of the truck of MP44 mold is a dismal.
im not joking about the transformation experience. in fact MS02 is a larger version of a legend scale toy made by MS with very few changes, many engineerings, espicially on legs, are not suitable for MP scale at all. i think i will never transform it again, such a nightmare. there is a rotation structure (with wheels) inside MS02's leg, it's very very hard to be in the right place, everything fights it, you must try to avoid them, then pressure mark comes. this is one of the worst engineering ive ever seen on any transformers toys. MP44 mold, while way more complex, i can hardly tell any step of the transformation is difficult to do. if you know every step well, it could be transformed in less than 10 minutes, to be honesty, not a big issue. MP44 is not a perfect toy, one half of the truck mode is terrible, the QC is below average, the knee joints are not solid. but you dont really have much choices for a MP scale G1 optimus prime. while comparing with MS02/TE01, MP44/44S absolutely wins (otherwise, they cost more). if the price is the most important point to you, buy TE01. TE01 is very cheap now (but the quantity is not as good as the older versions, they now produced by black mamba). TE01 has a painful transformation, which hurts you fingers, mediocre articulation, but still playable, and has the best truck mode of three MP scale primes.

I think Takara got the colors a bit closer tbh, of course with the exception of the windshield in robot mode. That red specially looks on point
