    Every now and then , nature or whatever, a person is born with a great gift of having that perfect connection between mind , heart, and hands. It mystifies some of us, others it makes almost critical out of sadness that we did not receive it. No denying, it's fascinating to watch and hear.

    The most frightening thing for young guitar "prodigies" is the advent of UA-cam and social media. SRV (at Taj's age) emulated his idols by replaying their songs over and over from LP's, and. later, sleeping in and playing dive blues joints. In the end, it was all SRV.

  • @tintin9274
    @tintin9274 5 років тому +11

    He mentioned to Ellen he learns a lot from UA-cam video...sometimes he has to listen to songs a couple times so he has his own "feel" for the songs.

  • @nevertoooldtorock115
    @nevertoooldtorock115 4 роки тому +90

    WOW, you really didn't do your homework on Taj. Try pulling up his channel and see the gigs he's performed on stage. If you watch his cover for Gary Moore's Still got the Blues, you can close your eyes and think you're listening to an adult playing instead of a 10 year old. Doubtful you've had or taught any students of his level before.

    • @FretplanetNet

      Hi there. You're correct, I did not reasearch before creating this video. A reaction video is a first impression, not a critique. As I said in the video, I think Taj Farrant is amazing! Clearly, he does have great guidance because he has his fundamentals (like pentatonic scales) down very well - as exemplified in this great performance. As for my students, a prodigy like Taj is one in a million. I've only seen a few, but my students are awesome and hard workers in their own right.

    Hello Emily. I only just discovered your channel with this Taj Farrant reaction video. This kid's phenomenal. As others have commented, this performance is not his best as you will notice on his other videos. Not to say he didn't do well on The Ellen Show. At this age, I was holding a tennis racket pretending to play along to rock records. I have great respect for guitar teachers like yourself. I've been playing guitar since I was 12 yrs old and I'm 50 now. If I could go back in time, I would definitly take guitar lessons. I've been learning some music theory that's helped alot. Thanks for the reaction video. Liked and subbed. Cheers!

    He is impressive for the 2+ years that he has been playing - but he has intonation and timing issues that will magnify if he doesn't practice with a click.....I still do and if been playing for 40+years!.....he comes in/out of pre-bends effortlessly- that alone takes years of practice!!!!.....his father met be an accomplished musician who now is focused on his sons career - that is perfectly fine .......as long as the kid can remain a KID and not become a nervous wreck , twitching youth like Bonamassa did !!!!.......he is gonna be a fine musician - and to be honest it really will only depend on the amount of time he puts in creating his OWN style and music .....a 'tracer' , someone I call who just plays other artists compostions will hit a wall - very hard - and than struggle to find his originality - listen to early Kenny W Sheppard albums when all he wanted to do was sound like SRV version 2.0+ ......than listen to his last couple mature releases .......I think Taj has a world of talent , a grounded in reality Father and Mother and the future is very bright for him - when he stops copying others and becomes his own ...... musician.

    @Fret Planet I am sure you are an accomplished and successful musician. But would you please at least do some research on the individuals you review. It has already been mentioned that you picked a performance that was not his best compared to other choices. He was seven years old when his father took him to see AC/DC, at that concert sitting on his dad's shoulders he realized watching Angus, that is what he waned to do. If you watch some of the personal interviews with him he constantly has his "wife" the SG which he cherishes. He is constantly noodling and working the craft. His passion is 100%. He is also fortunate that his family has been 100% supportive of his passion and journey to this point. The fact is Taj is special one of a kind. He has had incredible instruction on fundamentals so far. But good luck to you in trying to develop your youtube channel.

    • @FretplanetNet
      @FretplanetNet  4 роки тому +5

      Hi, Christopher. I appreciate your thoughtful reply. This is a reaction video. The entire point of a reaction video is not to do any research beforehand, because it is a first impression video. After seeing this very talented young player perform, I have absolutely no doubt that he has a wonderful and loving family and support system in place. As I stated in the video, I think he's really on the right track and doing a great job. As for my comments about students learning and maintaining their fundamentals, those are my concerns about kids' music education in general. I both commend this youngster for his drive and determination, and stand by my opinions on the importance of the high quality music educators that nurture this type of talent.
