wow, unless for the flying card (which i really like to see), Chihayafuru really reflect the real competitive Karuta! I never expect the real thing to be so intense. I really amazed with the Queen's lightning fast swing. Karuta is the most interesting card based game ever.

did anyone else feel like they are kinda like chihaya and shinobu? sometimes the queen would take one card from her opponent who hit the whole pile , and the other girl seems fast but not as good with memorizing (plus she took the chihayafuru card really fast)

I'm a bit confused by the description giving us the Queen's full name but only "Lily-chan" for her opponent. From what I got, the commentators called the challenger "Yamazoe-senshu" (although I'm not quite sure about the "senshu"), her full name should be Yamazoe Yuri. That's also what the Kanji seem to say.
Chihayafuru........also brought me here I was expecting like what happen to Chihaya and Shinobu at their 1st match at Class A Individual tournament like the reader read the first letter and they started to act........( talking about expectations vs. reality )

also i think she retired after this. I f I am not wrong this is her last queen match, in 2015 the match for the queen titile is decided by the match between the representative from the east and the west
Why do they (especially the girl on the left) keep swinging to both sides when it's not the time to act? Such as at 1:06, she swings her arm right then left. Is it some sort of warm up routine?
Sorry to reply nearly a year later (I realize it's weird and that you probably don't care anymore!). I also know almost nothing about the game in practice, but in addition to practicing their swing, as already commented, I think it's to keep themselves loose and mobile. They're sitting on the floor crouched over for an incredibly long period of time, so I imagine they're trying to keep themselves limber. If you don't get to swing properly for a card, you probably also want to make sure that you don't tense up in response either.
