When Zendaya won an award for Euphoria people were accusing her of winning solely because she’s black. Like ??? Or maybe it’s because she did a phenomenal job taking on a difficult role and is being properly acknowledged for it. These people don’t want to see us succeed and it’s really fucking sad.

they fundamentally believe that being white is the default/normal and everyone else is an other. They also believe that poc are not INDIVIDUAL people but representatives of their race as a whole, never individuals like whites are considered, so they see black and brown bodies as a political agenda.
Like how he was talking about the hair love animation; if that same animation was shown with a white family and white dad learning how to do his daughters hair it would be normal but because its a black family its political.
White people will act like they're being oppressed when literally any oppressed group gets a fraction of the representation white people have been getting since movies were made.
This is so relevant since the Percy Jackson’s cast being released. A 12 year old Black girl has faced so much racism under the guise of ‘Annabeth should’ve been blonde’… They reported her TikTok account to the point of it being removed. She had to come out with a video explaining how the hate doesn’t get to her, the creator had to come out with a statement saying she’s the perfect Annabeth just to try to get some people to listen. 12 years old.

As a Black person, it genuinely hurts seeing those comments and that video. I have never felt so disgusted in my life, and the fact that that video had so many comments and he had SO MANY subscribers bothered me. It bothered me to see the jokes about us, to see how people felt about the representation we have in the media.
I remember someone saying that, “it’s getting out of hand” when someone else mentioned how many Black people they saw in ads. I just want to be left alone without people making fun of my hair, the way I talk, and my skin. White people have always been recognized more, they’re considered as the “beauty standard” if they have blue eyes and blonde hair. But when Black people finally be able to be represented in something, it’s “wrong.” Him and his supporters are disgraceful and people really showed their true colors.

I want to make it known that many people in the LGBT+ community think that Call Me By Your Name painted gay men in a predatory light and was a book/movie made for hetero people to make them feel good about a male male relationship.
But was the plot of that film about a 24 four year old MAN going after a TEENAGE boy? My god how and why are you left leaning people this ignorant?
I watched it and although some scenes where uncomfy, i read the movie as a showcase of an unhealthy relationship dynamic, not an approval of it. I do think it would have been a better idea to either just make the mc 18/19 so that the neutrality of the movie doesn't make it seem like it's an endorsement of underage relationships with adults or showed the relationship in a negative light instead of a neutral light

Completely agree but what I will say is that sometimes (not everytime) film makers race swapping characters rather than working a new character into the script just feels like laziness and like they do it to credit themselves and their movies on being diverse and inclusive just to receive praise from poc that desperately want to see themselves represented in bigger roles on the big screen.
I'm not by any means justifying this guy's points, his intentions are clearly just to preach hate to an audience that will inflate his ego because not seeing people that are a carbon copy of himself in every Hollywood movie is clearly bad for his well-being, as if we weren't purposely excluding poc from movies or creating racist caricatures of them for over 50 years.
What's actually needed is less remakes and more original storylines that offer parts to poc and queer poc, and at this point there's no excuses as to why it's not being done.
Edit: I'm seeing some shifts from my opinion, it is not an opening for people to twist my words to suit their narrative. I'm not saying race swapping is always bad, I'm saying it's lazy writing and a missed opportunity, this is not an excuse for any of y'all to feel justified and comfortable with being racist. And then it starts shifting to being about LGBTQ ppl, these ARE minorities, they ARE underrepresented, you're not getting any sympathy as the largest represented group in film and TV 🤡
Plenty of original stories in indie films, but good luck getting a producer to give you millions on something unproven to have a very fixed audience. That and remakes ensure that you keep trademarks
Even in classic comic book worlds there are plenty of newer poc superheroes.. I also think that the way holiwood makes everything about "equality" is a little too much (great message, pretty bad execution).. Why make white characters into poc when you can just take a poc character and let them shine as much as they deserve? True equality has BOTH white people AND poc, no?
The problem is money. Hollywood is incredibly risk adverse and the race swapping of characters is essentially always in big budget blockbusters that are either remakes or adaptations of material from the 60s and 70s where the amount of non straight white people in media was kept to a minimum.
Since they want to acknowledge the need for diversity but not lose a single cent, they'll take an established character or story and change it to reflect diversity rather than make something new with a poc and/or lgbtq person.
Basically, Hollywood would rather make Superman black than make another Hancock.

Jason Mamoa is not white and currently playing Aquaman, but that's really not that much of praise to the industry at all, just my brain heard "Aquaman" and "white men" and I'm like...THAT ONE! that's our only other POC title character superhero, which if anything proves even more how few there are.

I hadn't heard about this, but they should choose whoever's best for the part. It doesn't matter too much if a character looks different from the books as long as the character is played right (and race isn't a relevant factor). As long as Riordan didn't pull a Rowling and claim she was always black. I think most people's problem with that was her trying to insert diversity after the fact for points rather than the casting choice itself.

Yes!! I have no idea why soooo many people loved that movie. I mean yeah the acting, cinematography was pretty solid and whatnot, but at the end of the day it heavily romanticized an incredibly problematic interaction between an adult and a minor. I am friends with tons of film buffs and watch a ton of review channels, yet I could count on one single hand how many people I’ve heard discuss the problematic age gap. It is extremely concerning.

I think Black superman would emphasize the tragedy of Kal-el being the other. Like imagine the stories you can come up with having a black Clark Kent being raised by white parents in a majority white town.
