Often times having children help is more trouble than help. But, if you want to raise healthy children you need to keep allowing them to help, and positively encourage their efforts. You do a good job with both. Thank you for the lovely video. God bless.

Ruth Ann you are so smart how you are teaching your boys. Kendrick using his arm to measure. Such a great idea. That's what I call good parenting. It’s a delight to watch how you have recovered such a big blow to your garden. You would think other farmers would understand the impact of their decisions on other farmers. But I guess it an opportunity to practice forgiveness.

I can only speak for myself, but I’m definitely not humoring you by hanging out in your garden with you, I’m honored.😊 I enjoy seeing how your garden is growing because I don’t have one myself this year. I will again next year and I can’t wait to use some of your tips to help my veggies grow even better.
Your sundress looks so comfy and cool to work in. I giggled when you jumped getting sprayed on your back. 😂
I was planning on going to Iowa next weekend for the festival just so I could get to meet you and listen to your talks. Touring the hatchery and shopping for chicks would have been fun too. I had to cancel my plans because my modular home is going to be set this week, but I don’t know what day. Maybe next year I’ll be able to get away for a weekend and go if you’ll be speaking at it again.
I could talk about my dairy cows way past the acceptable point of time too so we’ll see how long we can keep each other talking 😂
Thank you for another great video and I’ll be listening to this one several times this week while I’m working on my farm. Have a wonderful time at the festival next weekend and I’ll look forward to trying to go next year. Take care. 🧡 Lorie 😊

I'm with you Ruthann, it's never about the money, but your values as a gardener. I've argued with farmers while at work on lunch breaks that they believe what their sales reps are telling them that the "herbicide do not affect the plants much less the end result of the crop. They think there is no difference between organic or non-gmo while some of that may or may not be true the end results is that we should not be affected by other people's choices. Love your channel, thank you for all your wisdom.

We use cattle panels as well except we put 2 panels parallel about 15” apart. The tomatoes grow up between them with no need for ties or supporting clips on the tomatoes. Great video! Love to see your boys doing the work! Lifetime skills!

Learned many years ago to use fence panels for the tomatoes. Last year we cut the fence in half so much easier to handle. Use zip ties to connect to the post. Cut up old T-shirts for tying. Also use panels for beans. Wait until they start vining to put them up. Raise them up over the beans so they will have extra to grow

Best way to tie any plant, or tree; bring both ends of the tie from back of stake or cattle panel, then cross them and bring them to front of plant and then tie. Stops tie from rubbing against plant stem and holds plant well.

I love your beautiful garden and the way your helpers pitch in and then receive the reward for their teamwork and good effort . I also completely agree with your straw skepticism and have, for the past few years, begun bagging leaves in the fall and using them as mulch on my garden. My husband runs the mower over them with the mulched attachment and then bags the leaves. Some are placed on the garden in the fall and some are stored until spring. It works well for us and there is no bright burn that can be caused by the sun reflecting up from the bright new straw (if used) and pine shavings if used as mulch. Give it a try.

Happy Saturday. ❤ I do look forward to seeing your videos every week. I learn alot from you. I wish I could have known you a long time ago when I was younger. Now at 67 I am still learning though! I try to gently pass some of the things I learn to my daughter who has my 2 beautiful grandchildren. They are almost 12 and 7 1/2 😊.
She listens and I love explaining the age work- play ratio you mentioned. ❤
I hope I never get too old to learn new things 🙏💝. I love, love, love your garden videos. I learn alot! I only have raised beds and pots and one little section of ground to plant in living in my little garden apartment, but it’s amazing how much I can grow! I just keep adding more and more😂. I’m about out of room! For 2 years I’ve been growing garlic for the first time and it’s so satisfying. Last year I tried potatoes in a 10 gallon bag, I planted 4 Kennebec seed potatoes and grew 15 pounds of potatoes!! I was so surprised and excited!! ( kennebec are my favorite) This year I have a 20 gallon bag and there’s 8 seed potatoes! I can’t wait to see how many I get! I grew 2 pots of white half runner beans because they are my favorite! I had so many beans that I was able to can 7 quarts!! This year I have stagger planted them and hope to get more 😊. I use my precious ground space for tomatoes 🍅 ❤. I can put in 4 plants. I have 3 more plants in pots and last year I canned 7 quarts of just tomatoes and make several pints of salsa. I buy more tomatoes and beans to supplement mine, but it’s so satisfying to me to grow and eat the ones I grow.
I have 3 types of peppers growing too. I love your garden videos. Growing things is my passion and my happy place! Thank you for sharing yours. 👩‍🌾💚
May God continue to bless you and your family and lord, please bless Ruth Anne’s tomatoes 😊🙏

Love, love what your teaching the boys. ❤ Cattle panels and hog panels used to be the way to do just a out everything for the garden. Especially vining plants like beans. Now, they are so expensive, that if you dont already have them, it's to expensive for starting a new garden. Just 4 years ago they cost from $14 to $18 each, depending on length. Its crazy how much the price has gone up. They are $34 to $40 each now. Some places, they cost more. For tiing them up, I made a bunch of small straps from some old worn out Jean's, and added a velcro to them. I made various sizes, so I can always find the size needed.

Within a few weeks after removing the straw and adding fresh compost my plants started growing and producing and I had the best crop yet. I did decide I will be moving my strawberries to a different bed and put peas or beans in where the strawberries used to be to try to help recover my soil to an organic state.

I use cattle panels tied to t-posts for climbing plants like tomatoes and pole beans. And even cucumbers. I would suggest using a upside down 5 gal pail at each end and one more in the middle line of the panel where you sit the panel on above the ground while you tie the panel to the t-posts. This will give your plants an extra amount of height where to grow. After your panels are tied you remove the 5 gal pails. They were only there to hold the panels up higher off the ground while being tied to the t--post.

Thank you for the rambling on and on!! Hearing you think through it is helpful! Knowing the things you’ve tried it just observed and calculation all through the process helps me to think through what we can to improve our gardening skills. I’ve often wished I could just pick a good gardener’s brain 😅

What wonderful, hard working boys you have there! If you have to buy tomatoes and peppers to make up for what your neighbor ruined, the compensation could come in handy. To stop this from happening in the future, is there any other place on your property where you could locate your garden? You shouldn't have to move it, but if this farmer continues to show disregard for the drift he causes, would it be easier to move it?

My garden is too small for 16' cattle panels but you can buy 4x8' panels which are meant for concrete reinforcement at big box stores.

There is Nothing better than to raise Children on a Farm. Teaches them so much. Hard work, animals and weather just to mention a few. Love your videos. I was born and raised in Iowa City and spent a lot of time on my Grandparents Farm in Hills, Iowa.👍🏻
