Not so much block as dampen. He can still be cut and injured with it up but it greatly reduces the damage he takes.
Would also make sense if he had been using it subconsciously the entire time as Ichigo is a sponge for taking hits.

It was foreshadowed quite a bit. For example Aizen saying that Ichigo was special from the beginning and he is a human and .... and then he gets cut off by Ichigo's father.
It's always better seeing Ichigo use Sonido instead of Flash step, people can follow the Reishi of flash step so it never just vanishes but moves like a pen being drawn quickly across a screen but really fast, you can see where it came from to where it's going with flash step but with Sonido it's based on pure speed so when used you practically vanish and reappear where your going which to onlookers looks almost like teleportation if they can't keep up with you physically.

It was stated by urahara that all his powers were just sealed after using his FGT ,it just needed a medium to regain his powers just like the first episode but unlike the first episode where his reiatsu was on full display and required only rukia's reiatsu to unlock it ,this time many shinigami had to pool in their reiatsu just to unlock it back again
Ywach was afraid to fight yama straight up he had to steal his power to win
ichigo was afraid to fight that first hollow he fought, straight up he had to use his zanpakuto to win
kenpachi was afraid to fight giriko, he straight up had to swing his sword to win

Why does Ichigo inly unlock his Quincy powers once Quincies are revealed to be absurdly overpowered? I mean, he has been killed/nearly killed plenty if times before this.
Ichigo has always used his Quincy powers but it was on the sly.. against renji and zaraki he stopped the bleeding which was him using blut vene… his bankai is also a manifestation of his Quincy powers as his sword condensed his power which is what Quincy do which is why Bykauya was like that’s not a bankai it’s too small to be a bankai….
When Quipe used the jail on Ichigo.. Ichigo was exhausting his powers to the extent that his latent Quincy abilities finally came to the forefront … Ichigo always had and used them but the reason why Ichigo was classed as a special war power was due to his potential… he successfully surpassed every single race of power he has whether it is shinigami hollow fullbringer or Quincy
Because Kubo hadn’t planned that far ahead so the story seems a little disjointed. This is a thing with many mangas/animes not just bleach

@@SuperJutah yea I read what you wrote, and I think it’s a big stretch to say that he was using Quincy powers the whole time as if it was planned. There are a ton of animes where the character gets hurt and then “heals” up on the sly for the next battle. There could’ve been some sort of blue markings or ANYTHING to foreshadow that Ichigo is more than just “human” at that point (ik he’s Soul Reaper/Quincy but idk if we knew the Soul Reaper bit at that point) but there wasn’t. As for the Bankai part, fair point, but it’s a generic enough power to where I could see Kubo making it without Quincies in mind.
It’s not a bad thing that Kubo didn’t think that far ahead, Naruto was one of my favorite animes ever growing up but if you look back it’s pretty clear that Kishinoto didn’t have the whole story planned out, and that’s fine. Sure you can make up explanations to make some early parts of the story make more sense, but a lot of times it’s cuz of a lack of planning.

Yhwach messed with Ichigo only in his supresed false bankai and în his true shikai, he was very clever not to go against Ichigo true bankai, to break him before he become to much for him to handle him... It's amaze me that so much people don't see that when Tite kubo didn't even trayed to much to mask that Ichigo true bankai will be enough to defeat Yhwach. Hench the need for Yhwach to destroy Ichigo bankai before he can activated it.
He mess with the wrong dude as he thought he got hollow form (due to it overpowering Quincy but Ichigo got both hollow and Quincy balanced his true form was shown and his gf thought he loss control but he told her that it this is his true form under controlled and with the help of his ally and gf who mend his broken weapon he one shot the enermy

Here he was already exhausted from using his reiatsu against quilge's jail the reason why his Quincy powers awakened at the most critical time plus during his fight with ywach he was already mentally traumatized by the war crimes ,gore ,deaths and bloodshed in the soul society which until now did not happen even with espadas(even byakuya had to beg him to save soul society imagine the desperation)and his bankai was already chipping away due to these factors and the final nail in the coffin was the mention of his secret heritage which actually disturbed his reiatsu balance and jugram was able to cut his bankai in half
