It is SO HARD to convince people to go to the library! Or to look at books in general... I work in Engineering education (labs, machine shop, welding, electronics), and so much of what I'm telling the students is stuff I just picked up on my own by reading, and of course watching UA-cam videos, but I mean hundreds and hundreds of them. So many times I get a technical question, and the reply is "we have whole books about that!".
If that piece of paper didn't matter, im sure those people wouldn't have. Corporations want to see that paper, pay you peanuts and not give you anything..
@James Bowles my brotha , congrats for realizing this, you are able to make your own decision and not listen to old farts who are there just to pass time , teach you bullshit that has no relation to real world and make money while doing that. it is said that millenial will be the first generation who will not force their kids go to college . the future is brighter the more young people open their eyes to the way the real world works.
I agree, take the flying car out, but what he says on education is absolutely true. Today, many bright people has stopped thinking or solving real life problems; they are just busy cramming what's on the books a substitute for deep thinking and problem solving.
I agree. Students should be taught logical thinking long before they enter college. Can they do it? Yes students could. Note how they find their way around smart phones. They might then see the moronic logic that AOC touts instead of blindly worshiping her and her Marxists ideology.
Flying cars will lead to anxiety that something is going to fall on your head. For the rest of your life. Cars won't be found on the road, but everywhere. Accidents wouldn't be limited to roads, but could occur anywhere, anytime. It's basically undoable.
Education is one of great business in Australia . High status parents pay for education. Many Chinese rich parents send their kids to Australia to buy House and share stock. You have to encourage them to come to visit to Australia in a great way. Because they help Australia develop.
I worked with kids in recent years and the teachers are teaching stuff that I can teach with out a college degree how to count to 10 there name stuff like that opens up my eyes and make me wonder if is really necessary a college degree for some field that anyone can learn in less then 1 year that’s when I open up my eyes .
The part about education was thoughtful. The part about flying cars was stupid. (Instead of developing flying cars, how about concerning oneself with alternative fuel sources, or making cars more fuel efficient? The priorities seem very backward if you cherish being able to drive a car in the sky rather than being able to drive a car dependent on big oil.)
it was just a tagline. Peter has made comments in other debates where he emphasized the importance of energy innovation. Besides, putting "flying cars" in your tagline is more catchy than say "renewable resources"
Zuckerberg isn't a genius and nobody at Harvard thinks that. He's just smart, and likes to assert dominance (there's a difference). Thiel is an honest Genius though.

Master Mayne Catholic slave, I don't mean to be rude but, haven't you ever wondered why you believe in that religion? You believe, because your parents believed in it, have an open mind and think for yourself. (FYI I was born in a Catholic household, and thought for myself instead of blindly conforming to other's beliefs.)
Reporter: "flying cars will save us all'
Thiel: (thinking to himself) " did you listen to a single thing i just said?"
She reinforces the “talking head” cliché.
Yeah, that really grated! Those wacky journalists! That was so dumb it hurt.
I think she was just trying to end on a lighter note
"You dropped $150 grand on a f'k education, you could have gotten for $1.50 in late charges at the public library."

$150 Grand = 3 Tesla Model 3s Earning potential (Robo Taxi Nework) = 90 Grand/year!
My boy is WICKED smart.

I love listening to this guy, always has a very unique perspective on things.
"You go to Yale or you go to jail" :D
Very true comments regarding education. However, hard to listen to Ivy League graduates about the down side of college educations.
when you're at Harvard or Yale etc, i am sure the connections you get from attending those colleges will pay off handsomely
Next bubble is "education"
too many smart people pursue status and/or money instead of making the world a better place...
Nice job Peter!

Essentially yeah, it's a system where you pay more and more money just to get connections, which in and of itself is pretty corrupt.
I always think of Thiel as a person of the same influence as Martin Luther and John Calvin. May he start the reformation we all need

I never went to college...and I just laugh at people with useless degrees and all that debt.
Nice. I'm curious what you did.
Typical fiscal conservativeness

Telling a 16 year old to pursue the college path is like telling them to inject themselves with hepatitis C. There is no excuse for this bad behavior.
