I'm fortunate to have been raised as a "free range kid" in the early 1960s. We all walked or biked to and from school together, groups of 3 or 4 classmates, stopping at the playground on the way home, or walking to the corner stores to get penny candy or whatever. Most families had one car, and we all used transit lots. I hope kids today get the same opportunities I did to learn independence. Thanks for sharing another wonderful conversation!

I don't like cycling, still do it almost every day cause it's simply the cheapest and often fastest way to get around quickly... I can park my bike very close to the entrance every were. Moreover it's easy to cycle on well-maintained paths where there are no cars. So I am very much encouraged to use a bicycle. Of course, it is also a nice feeling to contribute reducing emissions and the environment in general. Greez from Nederland:)

Yep! When active mobility is made to be practical and pragmatic people will choose to do it even without being enthusiasts or super fans of their mobility choice. Thanks so much for watching. Cheers! John

I once witnessed the equivalent of Pedestrian Critical Mass in a Barcelona neighborhood, civil disobedience against turning a street into a stroad. (Remember that it was the great Henry David Thoreau who created the idea of Civil Disobedience.)

The road system is intrinsically dangerous, so 'full self driving' with zero risk is not attainable. Eg at any moment, an unseen pedestrian, can step out from behind a van into the path of a car travelling at 'legal' speed, close enough to the car that a driver, human or otherwise, cannot possibly begin to brake before hitting the pedestrian. I choose an intrinsically safe bicycle for my local trips.

Yep... and "The Insolent Chariots" kind of sounds like a good punk rock band name. Cheers! John

Personally I think all our problems could be solved by adding another lane 😂. Thanks for the podcast.

Speaking of the great fighting city of Philadelphia, Rocky didn't drive or own a car, or Adrian, or Paulie, or Micky...

If more people would put a small e kit on a decent bike. With small motors.
