    They never showed the process of adding the NICKEL COATING to the ice side of the evaporator.
    At about 3:10 you see it is still bare copper and then by 3:14 when she says "Next he assembled..." and when you see the ice side of the evaporator it is nickel coated.

    I have been repairing Ice machines for years, in my honest opinion the Cornelius CCM0530AH1 is the best and most reliable. This episode of How it's Made basically shows that particular ice machine. Ice-O-Matic and Cornelius are the same company/products, just two different names. Be sure and use some kind of scale filter to reduce mineral deposits in your new machine. Write if you have anymore questions.

      Cornelius buys ice-o-matic machines before the model number, serial number, and nameplate are assigned to the machine. They are not the same company but exact same product. Cornelius makes their own nugget machines and dispensers.

      The minerals & impurities are washed off by the dispered water flow running off as the water freeze accumulates. Sort of like reverse distillation, but instead of heat it's cold freeze. That's why the cubes come out clear. Smart process if no filter is used.

    Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

    • @fiznizzle
      @fiznizzle 9 років тому +3

      Exactly what Jean said. But to elavorborate, when the ice maker is in a "freeze" cycle, it freezes ice on the evaporator, when it is done, the ice maker kicks into "harvest", in which hot refrigerant gas is circulated through the serpantine to assist with ice removal.

      Jean is correct, but I will add that units also utilize in addition to that a small bit of water called 'water assist', or it MAY have a shaft that literally pushes the sheet of ice from behind the plate. To break the vacuum. But it's mainly hot freon doing the work.
