You should have walked away the first time. I've had a guy I was meeting to buy a gun from try to set me up to be high jacked and likely killed. Unfortunately for him I smelled a rat and called up one of my cop contacts and reversed his play on him. It was glorious busting a dirt bag that thought he was luring out a sucker with a pocket full of cash to buy a few grand gun to his fate get busted in a last minute sting. He didn't even have the gun. Moral of this story... DO NOT agree to meet anyone in a remote spot or buy yourself any place with a known amount of cash or product of value. It's not 1980 anymore. I was going to say 1950 but no we could still trust people in the 80's.
Wow! What a total nutjob! I'm a FFL dealer, and I haven't had to deal with crazy to that extent. We deal with buyer's remorse/my wife find out all the time, but there's no refund for that. Next time you do a private sale, you find the buyer, work out the sales details, then have him meet you at YOUR normal gunshop, and pay you regular FFL to do a transfer.
He kissed it??? Wow, that would've told me to take the gun and never call that dude again. Good video, had a guy want to meet me to look at my truck over an hour away, we agreed on a time, I headed out, this dick calls me and asks if we can meet another time, I asked him why the hell he didn't tell me that before I left. I told him screw it, don't call me back, we'll forget the whole thing. It pisses me off when people don't do what they say they'll do at your inconvenience.
I used my LGS to sell a Rifle on Gunbroker. They took the pictures and did all the paperwork for a 15% fee. I thought it all went smoothly, so I was happy and my LGS was happy.
I had done several private sales over the years with no problem, legal here in my state without a transfer. Sold a 38 revolver to a young guy a few yrs ago, met me wearing office work type clothes, with his daughter with him, filled out a bill of sale similar to yours for both of us. Almost a year later two plain clothes police are at my door, found out he was a felon, a drug dealer & in a raid the gun was found, traced back to me. I wasn't in any trouble, they were trying to pin the gun on him & as luck would have it, I couldn't find the bill of sale. I Identified him in photos & was expecting to be called it to his trial, but never heard anything more about it. Scared the sh.. out of me, I swore no more sales unless it was family.
Would you ever buy a Les Baer again? I actually bought a Thunder Ranch Special for myself on my 21st birthday for my first handgun and I really love the thing.
Braidy Fisher congratulations on a Baer for a first gun! Whoa are you ever spoiling yourself on the other makers! I tried Kimber, Springfield, Colt, even bought a Sig 1911- then I won an auction on GB for a Concept V Les Baer- paid $1,400 for it Factory New in a Penny sale. That was early last year; now I have two more Les Baers! They keep multiplying in my safe! Wilson, Brown, NH all have excellent pistols no doubt, for me tho, I cannot imagine a better Functioning, more accurate and dependable 1911 than a Baer. Baer's aren't the prettiest, but dang aren't they a savage gun tho? Now I have 6 production 1911s I have to either pack in grease for LONG TERM storage, or sell. In reality, I'd like to sell them and get a 686 Smith or a 715 Dan Wesson with some of the money. My other two Baer's are the 429 Boss and Monolith HW; the TRS will most likely be very collectible some day.
Matt Anderson Thats awsome man! I did want to buy a new Colt m1911a1, but sadly, i live in California and as of this year Colt has pulled the plug entirely on selling in this state, so this caused a basic Colt 1911 even used to go for $2000+. love my TRS its beautiful and SUPER reliable, I think my next gun will be a Smith revolver, I want either an old model 29 4", New 686+ 3", or a New 327 2" Im undecided.
Yes I would. I've always liked the SRP model and that HEMI stainless model. Keep that TRS! I thought I was striking up a deal with someone on a Springfield Professional Rail which to me is sorta like a LB but has more fine touches but is hard fit....but not sure... I'm waiting on this Nighthawk 10mm even trade to happen.
Get the Springfield Pro and don't look back! To me, they're the Holy Grail of 1911's. I have a Premier II and I love it, but it wasn't always that way. We had a rocky first few months of marriage. LOL! But, after a bit more work, it's running great now.
... I sold off a few as well but use Gun Broker Exclusively through my local FFL. My Dad said that firearms are always a good investment and easily cash-able when funds are needed. Over the years i have sold off firearms to fund Braces, Blue Diamond Rings, a stint of unemployment and most recently my New Pole Barn Project... only once was a dispute over a Classic Winchester that was due to buyer lack of knowledge about the lever-gun! Anyway, that has been my experience and sorry that yours has gone left occasionally... Mike
Yeah I wanted to try to use GB and so did my bud with the STI but.... seemed like a pain and also have 0 feedback? Not sure? Thanks for sharing your experiences! I remember years ago I sold my entire collection except one 1911 to save for a downpay on a house. That was interesting... but I re-established my collection after a few years.
I had "0" feedback to at one time and am now at 130 POS... You gotta to start somewhere, just my opinion//you are an honorable guy and revered you tube publisher... use that initially in your text as a sales tool of your prowess and reliability...
Wow! I was sad to see your Les Baer go. Even sadder to hear what kind of weirdness you had to put up with to sell it! I wouldn't have sold it to him after the first time he stood you up. I'm pretty strict when it comes to stuff like that. If YOU want it, get your act together and come buy it. Meet me on my terms or not at all. That's one thing I hate about selling stuff. Although I've never had to deal with that level of crazy. Happy shooting and be safe bro!
Consignment is the 2nd best way... it takes a while to sell but like others have said you are kept out of the loop with the wackiness. The shop will take probably 20% of the sale though but hey, might be worth it. Better than getting a trade value.
I'll own a Les Baer someday. My wife is somewhat supportive of my hobby; I at least do her the courtesy of letting her know about impending purchases. I don't have tons of money for guns anyway, so it's not like I'm buying them left and right. Funny story!
He bought a high-end luxury item, "held it" for six months, and then suddenly was unable to feed his child? Give me a break. This world is full of all kinds of unethical people who won't blink an eye at the prospect of lying or attempting to manipulate others to their benefit, right and wrong be damned.
TheOl1911 I know women like that. She probably went to buy a Coach purse or something and the money was gone. He spent it on a handguns and she was mad. Hahaha I have a cousin who has a wife like that.
I've bought and sold a good amount privately over the years and thankfully i've never encountered any problems like this. Just a few I missed and wished I hadn't sold lol.
My father would have problems with customers sometimes. Not alot but often enought that when I took over the business I changed the way we did it and for 40 yrs now have had excellant luck. Most people are gracious and if you do enough business those are the ones that keep you going and enjoy the work.
When you said he wanted his money back (all of it and months after the sale) I immediately thought, why isn't the guy just selling it? I've had a couple bothersome sales/non-sales, lately with people I know... who work at a gun shop. Kinda pisses me off when I hold onto a firearm for one guy because he has pestered me for months and months that he wants my Saiga in 308 but he never makes the deal. He brings it up all the time, tells me how he is ready to convert it, shorten the barrel, blah blah blah. nice guy just pipe dreams I guess. I've pared down my collection so hopefully I won't have to deal with many more sales.
TheOl1911 Yeah, I guess what I don't understand is why (in a free state) these buyer's remorse buyers don't just sell it the way you did. I guess they are just too afraid of their wives.
Ones I've done vids on would probably be the S&W 327 2" just because I've had it for so long and really have shot the hell out of that thing. Wilson Hackathorn just because the thing just works and its a 1911... gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. oh and my j-frame 340PD, just because I can carry it when I can't carry "big".
I couldn't even sell a couple of Airsoft guns on a freaking public selling site without people trying to short-change me in that site deleting them saying no gun related products on there so that was a headache for me people can be a little ridiculous huh
The moral of the story: Once you marry, you are no longer your own man. Get your toys first, because your money is no longer yours either, it belongs to your family.
I had two Les Bear 1911s Agood friend wanted one bad.I was stupid and sold him one for a excellent price telling him that if you ever sell this gun contact me first.About a year later he calls and says he wants to sell back the gun.I come over to his house to make the deal and now he wants 350 dollars more than what he paid me.This is when i stopped selling gun's to friends for good deals.
I think they are in a different class. Both are great 1911s just Wilsons do have more cosmetics and I feel like they are built slightly better or have more attention to detail. But both are good guns.
Thanks, I like a tight 1911, so the Les Bear appeals to me, but I think I will stay with the 327, it just feels right and shoots so well. Also, what else fits in a front pocket? LOL
Suggestion, have.the buyer drive to a location near you, if they don't want to? its a good indication that they are not serious buyers. Buyers travel to the deal, not sellers.
Yeah good idea. I've had guys drive up towards me but they always get lost, LOL. Its a disaster so I don't mind driving to "civilization" like a mall or a public range/gun shop
I had a similar experience with a friend (ish) person. Asked if I wanted to by a 870 Express Magnum for $200. Sure. 3 months later, "hey, I really need that back.....there's a BEAR coming around!" Ok. We are friends, ok. A year later. "I really need some cash. You liked that shotgun right? Want to buy it for $150?" Sure! 3-4 months later, guess what. NOPE! "I'm sorry man, I'm not a pawn shop.
EXACTLY! Pawn shop is a great example. I recently sold a Wilson Elite Pro to fund a different Wilson which I will be carrying.... its funny - I saw that gun in the used case of a shop. I just did the deal with that guy last month or so...guess he didn't want the gun!?!? But at least he didn't come back at me for a "full refund".
If you agree to sell the gun to the first guy for $100 over that should be the end of the process unless he falls thrust. Maybe you never accepted his offer. What state are you in? We’re not required to do bill of sale and all that here in Georgia.
Thank god i do not have to sell my stuff to get what i want in life. I keep everything i buy, i see no reason to sell my firearms or what-so-ever, i do like to buy private aside from my BudsGunShop shopping sprees once in a while. But selling? Nope.... Sold is sold so to bad he would not gotten a dime from me. And if he really wanted it, he can come and get it....good luck!
I agree. He had it for sale. First customer met his price. He should have sold to the first. His greed got in the way. Unless this was an auction, the seller wrongly treated the first customer.
I've only bought one gun I truly regret. Impulse buy and a decent price. That said, I've consigned the Les Baer to longterm purchases and have a buy price. I was surprised you took the check. I would have done cash only. I was expected this story to end in a bounced check. Either this guy was trying to sell you some fake sob story or he was truly that neglectful. I've always had a dedicated discretionary income that I keep track of, only time I go above it is usually because what I'm getting is just a couple bucks more ie no McDonalds today.
Yep all kinds out there , we live in a nutty world... the old man once said you buy a gun you keep it . And you keep it clean . He was old school for sure. Thankfully things work out for you . Hopefully your done with that process. If you ever want to dump one of those Wilson combat know where to find me. Just kidding I'm sure you will never do that. Thanks
What a joke. Whether if the story was true or not he basically neglect his priority to buy the gun. The LB set him so far back to not be able to feed his child? Geez, maybe you shouldn't be buying guns! What a terrible father. I feel bad for the kid. Lol.
never sell to friends allways want a good deal.A so called friend bothered the shit out of me for a SW66.I sold it to him for 250 as a favor. About a year later he desides to sell it.I ask him how much he tells me 550.I learned a valuable lesson.
Why didn't you just tell him to sell it to someone else. Your sale was final. If he didn't believe you then refer him to a lawyer and tell him that the lawyer will explain it to you.
1. Don't sell your guns. 2. It's buyer beware and seller beware. 3. The buyer caused his own problem because he's crazy. 4. He should have gotten rid of his wife not the Les Baer. 5. Selling guns is like riding motorcycles, you may have no problem selling guns privately but if you do it long enough, you will run into a crazy buyer. You might not crash and go down on a motorcycle but if you ride long enough, you will go down and get injured. Its risk management and only you can decide if it's worth doing.
Fuck that if I have the gun they want they drive to me otherwise I just wait for the right buyer to show up, I don't live in a state where gun transactions are regulated for private sale and I once walked away from a private sale with a guy with a ccw because he was too young and immature and even though he had cash and it was legal I did not want to be the one to sell him the gun. The guy probably shot it and then wanted to return it to you.
June 2016 he's coming back months later with a sob story about money? If his life was in such turmoil financially this would have been an issue within like a week of buying maybe a month.
exactly, there was more to the story I think. Buyer's remorse I assume. I hear this happens a lot at the shops. Buy it but they come back in a week asking if they can "return it for a full refund". I never did a vid on when I sold the SR9C years ago to some guy who kept calling me saying i sold him a broken gun and wanted his money back....
Must be impulse buying. The gun counter guys tell me all the time guys will come in and just whip out plastic to get something they really do not want. Then after a month they realize they made a mistake.
Some people, I would have told that guy sorry for your loss of money maybe you should have really thought about spending that kind of money or been straight forward and talked with your wife before putting yourself out on the limb. A sale is a sale
Yup, I am sure his wife found out recently and probably just got pissed and demanded he get the money back but business is business. I mean I know a lot of my gun buds that do this...they buy stuff and hide it...maybe another video topic!?
Sounds like a 30 old kid who doesn't know how to prioritize his family...... You as a father and husband should put your needs and wants after your kids and spouses needs and wants. If not don't plan to be married long or get custody of the kid/s.....
Welcome to the world of selling a gun privately. The experience and problems you had outline he reasons I will never sell any of the firearms I have ever purchased. You literally take your life in your hands dealing with nut jobs like this whose mental stability you can only guess about and selling the gun to a gun shop you'd be lucky to get half the value you paid since they are in business to make a profit and won't give you anything near the amount you paid originally. You lucked out in more ways than one.
Yeah what a weirdo. I do my gun through shops it just safer and less headache. And if your married one way or another have an understanding with your relationship and financial , I mean after all it's a LB custom. Thats not cheap !.
LMAO you're privately selling and still want to go through an FFL for a transfer. You are lucky to sell anything. A simple hand receipt with time, date, and signature will do. It is NOT illegal to make personal sales without going through an FFL. If I'm going to make a private sale purchase and the person wants to go through an FFL, well why bother I'll just go buy a new gun that has never been used, or buy one through a Reputable business, if I have to go through that hassle. Obviously you are charging damn near new prices, because you said breaking even, so why would someone want to buy your gun in the first place. Then again there are aways stupid people that will. Also people remember there are always two sides to a story, and this is one side. Side note all sales are final, and only deal in cash screw a check.
In PA you can sell rifles "over the counter", but for private sale of Handguns you have to go to a gun store for the formal background check and transfer. I think Ol' 1911 here resides in California, so no doubt he has to jump through some hoops.
First one to hand you the money should be the owner , to accept the first guys offer then crab walk back for a higher offer shows your charecter .... you just showed that your not honorable for a possible $100 .... boy your cheap
I'm sure what happened was the wife found out, got pissed and probably demanded that he get the money back...but yes we are grown ups here....he made the decision to buy it so...
Always love your stories but dang!!!! You just seem to find the nut jobs. It must just be 1911 fanboys. LOL!!!! Just being silly. I figured it was his wife finding out he spent money he shouldn't have. That's not your problem. Like your bill of sale said, ALL SALES ARE FINAL. WOW! -Jen
I never did a video about the time I sold the SR9c a few years ago because the individual was a viewer. Well the guy came back at me alleging I sold him a broken gun and he demanded his money back. Granted it was only $380 but still. This LB yeah was considerably more and I am sure his 'better half' found out and got pissed and that was that. A guy here that runs a gun shop told me he actually deals with this stuff a lot. Guys come back in after a day requesting a full refund. I know a local shop here they tell me wives come in the shop and demand to see the receipt of what their husband bought!?!?!? haha. dang.
Moral of the story is never sell any gun. Keep them all
Never buy a Les Baer.
I would have walked away after the first time he stood me up
True. I lost interest but he called me back so...aw well
You should have walked away the first time. I've had a guy I was meeting to buy a gun from try to set me up to be high jacked and likely killed. Yes have some plans on a Professional Rail. Just depends on this guy.... probably won't be for a while.
Why specifically did you sell the LB? Did the slide never loosen up for you to use and shoot comfortably? Please elaborate if you can.

Joy of working till 3am. Buy before work, bring into the house when no one is awake

Well he sold it to Cabela's and someone else bought it so... I am sure Cabela's gave him nothing for it. They never give fair values there.
TheOl1911 Yeah, I guess what I don't understand is why (in a free state) these buyer's remorse buyers don't just sell it the way you did. I guess they are just too afraid of their wives.
Go buy it back now for a discounted price lol. Good story
Cabela's? Yeah it is gone. The price tag was basically NIB price which is NUTS but someone bought it.
Unless you know the person a private sale can be a pain. I've had people back out of a deal at the last minute.......very annoying.
yeah I don't do it anymore, its too much effort and time. But you do make out if things work out.
Holster on right side is sickinger?
You never told us why you sold it 🤔
I also sell and regret selling some guns, is there any particular gun you would NEVER SELL? If so, which one and WHY?

Ok.
Do you really have to do all of that paper work for a private sell?
Your mistake was greed. When the buyer that first offered a 100 above asking that should have been it.
Business. You're not gonna go with the guy offering more money?
Thats not greed, he simply took the best offer.
I agree. He had it for sale. First customer met his price. He should have sold to the first. His greed got in the way. Unless this was an auction, the seller wrongly treated the first customer.
You should have Ed bassmaster re tell this story in a park somewhere 😂
pistol permit?..what the hell is that..geeze
I've only bought one gun I truly regret. Impulse buy and a decent price. That said, I've consigned the Les Baer to longterm purchases and have a buy price.
I was surprised you took the check. I would have done cash only. I was expected this story to end in a bounced check.
Either this guy was trying to sell you some fake sob story or he was truly that neglectful. I've always had a dedicated discretionary income that I keep track of, only time I go above it is usually because what I'm getting is just a couple bucks more ie no McDonalds today.
the only problem here is you agreeing on a price and then boosting it later...
Thanks
Good stuff. Yeah I am done with private... I am doing even trades but even that can be iffy. We'll see!
Wow, crazy people out there!
very true!!!! and the scary thing is these are firearms so....
Well who wouldn’t kiss there Les Bear? It’s an Expensive Firearm!
If your Les Baer is on the California Roster then I will be happy take it from you if you don’t put the old gun price more than the new pun price.
lol If you don't think you can afford a gun in the long run don't buy it.Great video.
LOL i know right? I think his better half just somehow found out about it... thanks
Don't know why people get cold feet after the fact. I've been happy with all my purchases. Square that way before you commit.
Must be impulse buying. The gun counter guys tell me all the time guys will come in and just whip out plastic to get something they really do not want. Then after a month they realize they made a mistake.
4:10 this is when you should have realized that this guy was not worth dealing with.
You don't meet people in parking lots and malls to do a gun sale.
sure you do
Yup, all sales final....
I would have told him to sell it ! No returns !!!
VERYGOOD VERYGOOD
I FROM THAILAND พัทลุง
Many states have laws against private sale now. Every transfer has to go there dealer
It sounds like your guy was manic. They do a lot flighty things.
if he sold it to cabelas they hosed him.....50-60 percent at best!
In the end, people suck!
Yeah what a weirdo. I do my gun through shops it just safer and less headache. And if your married one way or another have an understanding with your relationship and financial , I mean after all it's a LB custom. Thats not cheap !.
you should have offered 500 less to buy it back lol
Well... no funds, LOL. It was at Cabela's and they priced it with a NIB price and it sold!?
ChiliContestWinner.
Had an ad bill em Yankee.
And sales are final so should have told the guy that's it.
he knew it...said it on the bill of sale in all CAPS....
thats why i avoid selling guns i rather sell to gun shop or a friend
good practice!!!!
A friend is ideal. Gun shops don't pay squat though. Won't ever sell to one again.
hell is other people
Another excellent reason for never getting married!!
That’s all his problem.
Lot of clowns out there
Sell on Gun Broker.
What a nut.....we are grown men...a deal is a deal
I'm sure what happened was the wife found out, got pissed and probably demanded that he get the money back...but yes we are grown ups here....he made the decision to buy it so...
👍🏽👍🏽
First !
second.
I know a local shop here they tell me wives come in the shop and demand to see the receipt of what their husband bought!?!?!? haha. dang.
***** Jeez!!!! I always laugh at guys who buy guns and say they keep it from their wives. Sorry, that's a BAD idea!!!!! :)
Waist of time video.
