    That brought back memories. Used to go to the woods with my grandad in Walws and have exactly that meal. Sometimes with a trout if we got lucky. Good times. thanks for sharing.

    Stinging nettles are great. High in iron and other nutrients.

    Nice vid! I line my xcase w/aluminum foil. It will keep it looking newer longer. I also process my wood as you did. I just do it at home and bring the 1/4 `rd portions w/me. Drizzle some hand sanitizer over the wood to start the fire...cheap and easy. Cut a piece of hardware cloth to fit the bottom of the burn chamber. Block the air openings at the bottom with your cut sticks and you can burn wood pellets no problem. Again, just drizzle the top of the pellets with hand sanitizer and you are good to go!

      Thanks Mark! I have had it out on a few fishing trips, but not filmed. Thought I better do a video before things dry up for the summer!

      Thanks! Yes that little pan is top shelf! I am hoping to find another larger one for my camp box.

      What brand is it?

    • @Scablands_Scavenger
      @Scablands_Scavenger  2 роки тому +1

      @@johndharris73 I have not been able to find a makers mark on it. It is an older steel skillet, commonly called a "cowboy skillet". This one is much thicker than the common "cold handle" skillets. I found it at a 2nd hand market. It cooks great for its size!

    That forest looks like it's around here. I like the Firebox stove. We haven't been able to get it out with all the fire restrictions and dry conditions.

      It is a pretty neat area, on the fringe between heavy forest and dry basalt scablands. I hear you on the fire restrictions, another week or two and all the green out here will be a tinder box!

    Right when he said "should have picked more greens" I was looking at the edible greens right behind his stove lol

    It's a good travel firebox stove.
    Bring some wood pellets out with you sometime.
    Bring a can of SPAM to cook. Easy to transport without spoilage.

    you can eat stinging nettals?

    • @Scablands_Scavenger
      @Scablands_Scavenger  Рік тому

      Yes, pretty good. Taste like spinach, good sautéed like this, or steamed. A little balsamic vinegar makes them less bitter, salt pepper, parmesan... good eats. They are good chopped and added to a stew also.

    What state do you live in? I would love to move in and enjoy the outdoors with you, hunting and BBQ are my favorites. I don't like California.

    I have a question are the fire box hard to clean?

    • @Scablands_Scavenger
      @Scablands_Scavenger  2 роки тому

      I don't think they are. Most stick stoves will be a bit messy. I usually store them in a stuff sack or case and wash with mild soap and scotchbrite pad when really dirty.
