You're young, but when we have aging and ill parents, the roles reverse. Where our parents chased away the "monsters" when we were little, now it's our turn to be the "parent".

James dad was actually dying from kidney disease & this was his tribute & farewell to his dad. Thankfully his dad received a donor kidney & is doing okay now. If this song doesn't get to you emotionally, there is something wrong with you. This song resonates with me as I was my dad's caregiver for 5 years until he passed away 3 years ago.

He and his dad are ex military (officer ratings) and didn’t do emotion (or his dad didn’t) when they went off on manoeuvres he would say we’re just two grown men saying goodbye.

I'm basically struggling. I am going. This hit hard, stage 4. You are on dialysis if you are well enough to get a kidney. However, I am not. I have rheumatoid arthritis, hypothyroidism, Takayasu Aertitis vasculitis, lupus and subclavian steal syndrome, vertebrobasilar insufficiency ,arteriolosclerosis Urticarial vasculitis, you live in pain.
Daughter 46, she had Takayasu Aertitis Vasculitis, also Takayasu dementia. She has a bunch of autoimmune like me, she will her never find a lover, because of Takayasu Aertitis Vasculitis, that's the scary one.

Brother, don’t mind these idiots in the comments. Your young, you were trying to piece it together. Basically James’s father, had stage four kidney disease and was dying, as they couldn’t find a donor for a kidney (James) wasn’t a match. So this song is a tribute to his father, and James saying that now, that he’s dad is dying he can sleep easy, because James will chase the “Monsters” away

James Blunt is believed by some to have prevented World War 3 while serving in Kosovo, by not carrying out an order from a superior.
To me, James is the perfect example of how a man can be tough when he needs to be, but still show their feelings and have compassion and just be a pleasant human.

James and his dad had both previously been officers in the British military. James donated all the proceeds from this amazing song to the UK charity 'Help For Heroes' who do such wonderful work for ex-servicemen and women.

Jame's father was dying of stage 4 kidney disease and because he had a rare blood type and because he had donated a kidney before meaning he only had one kidney it did not look good for his dad. this was his goodbye song to his dad. because of the video though a distant cousin saw it got tested and was found to be a match. His father is now doing ok. I think it is a beautiful song too.

James's dad was dying of stage 4 kidney cancer. It was his dad in the video. After the song dropped his father got a kidney transplant from a distant relation.
James and his dad were both British Military and his father apparently used to say the You're not my son, I'm not your father phrase when James got stationed abroad to Kosovo. They were both 2 grown men saying goodbye. His sister apparently wrote some of the lyrics a poem.

Yes, that is his dad in the video. At the time this song was written and James performed this song to his dad, his dad had Stage 4 kidney cancer and was not expected to survive, so this was James' heartfelt last tribute to him. It was recorded in one take, and when the record company wanted to edit out his voice cracks James refused, because he wanted it to be an authentic capture of his feelings. Fortunately after the video went viral, a distant relative saw it and stepped forward to be tested, was a perfect match to donate a kidney and as of now James' dad has survived and made a full recovery.
James is well known for writing incredibly deep and poignant lyrics, many of them taken from his own experiences while serving in the army. I can also recommend 'Carry You Home' and 'No Bravery' - both based on his real-life combat experiences in Kosovo.

As if the song wasn't poignant enough, you'll get people telling you that this recording was the first time his father had heard the song. A ludicrous idea, had he done so the outcome would be too unpredictable, James would never have put his father in such a situation, it's blatantly obvious (and well documented, google it) that this is NOT the first time his father heard the song.
THIS was the first time his father heard the song, and it wasn't while the video was being recorded.
"Playing 'Monsters' to my father was the toughest, because I really wanted him to like it. It was a song for him and about us. I took him upstairs, but headphones on him and pressed play. He said, 'so true.'" he shares. "I guess that means it was okay."

His dad was in stage 4 kidney failure. James wrote this tribute song to him .at the last minute a relative came through with a kidney for him and saved his life. His dad asked him if he could be in the video with him.

Your initial interpretations are/were accurate. I thought that his father was dying until I realized that Charles Blunt had an advanced case of kidney disease. Thankfully, a close family member got tested as a donor match, and donated their kidney. Your initial thoughts and feelings are normal. Thank you for your insights.

If you like deep, emotional and beautiful songs you'd love Avi Kaplan. He was the basso profundo with Pentatonix until going solo. He bares all and each song is so unique. Try All is Well 7 layer sessions or Quarter past four. Dozens of others to choose from. He did Change on the Rise after leaving the group and it's a tribal/viking anthem about being on his own. I'll subscribe and hope for more Avi. He has a large following. Thanks.

ALL you UA-camrs need to learn how to edit! There is so much difference in your speaking sound and the sound of the James Blunt video youre playing ! Edit it in a way that the volume is equally loud! SO ANNOYING !!Whats even more annoying is the stopping all the time ! Why cant you listen to it fully and afterwards react ! ALMOST ALL YOU UA-cam REACTERS keep pausing the clip and many times at the most important emotional part of the song !

They have to stop during the song at least once or twice. If they don't, the video will get removed for copyright infringement.
