Temwa Chawinga was indeed the top goalscorer in the world in 2023, but she never played for PSG. It's her sister, Tabitha Chawinga, who joined the French side this season after playing for Inter Milan, and she is even better than Temwa in my opinion. This was another great video, by the way. I'm also looking forward to the next ones!
Thank you for clarifying, I was having the hardest time following along. I'm going to have to start working some of Tabitha's games into my viewing to get a look at them both. There's this book I think is great, "The Best: How Elite Athletes Are Made", and the authors have a theory that when siblings play the same sport the younger one usually emerges as a better player, partially because they grow up competing against someone bigger and stronger. I've noticed when an older sibling breaks this pattern they tend to be something truly special. Very curious now!
I love all this for NWSL, it now looks and feels globally competitive. Yes @TL0411 Tabitha is a beast! and USWNT Korbin Albert is absorbing from the best! They have a few matches at the end of the month, looking forward to it! As afar as this match, Portland did not look like Portland on many levels until they started losing their ass off, KC got too comfy with the lead and started holding the ball too soon. exciting AF overall.
Totally agree with the globally competitive statement. Some fantastic new players in the league and it'll only push everyone more. It's all up from here!
this game was a great opener for the season, offering a bit of everything, especially for average viewers unfamiliar with the league. looking forward to what the season holds and future vids :)
ahhh, Sophia Smith. Kind of an enigma, but still so young. I'd like to see less waiting on the ball to roll past her in transition, and more going to secure it for cryin out loud. But then she blasts two amazing bombs to be the player of the match on the Portland side. Disappointed to see Moultrie doing next to nothing. She was so good in her GC minutes. Thanks for the good word!
Smith is such a weird one for me right now. I feel like a lot of it has to be mental because it’s like a switch flipped and she decided to go out and score two absolute goals like it was a walk in the park. Moultrie looked lost but hopefully it was just a first game blip, she looked very polished in the gold cup.
Hi Bridy (? I don't know if I'm catching your first name correctly), just wanted to say that I like the idea of covering one NWSL match per week. I think it gives fans of women's soccer greater access to the NWSL. Also, I loved your analysis. Talk of 'lanes' and 'body positioning,' among other things, is all new to me! It's great! I feel like an insider, haha. Lastly, I liked the Country flags next to the players who are national team hopefuls. I think that's a neat touch. Cheers!
Thanks for the feedback, glad to hear it's working. I'm looking forward to tracking players ahead of the Olympics, I think that'll be fun video to video. - Bridie :)
Love the play by play breakdown but definitely worth noting that Portland ran out an extremely green defense that had never played together before. That's not taking away anything from KC. The first half they dominated the midfield and on attack. But there were a lot of defensive mistakes made by the thorns that just felt like inexperience.
Totally fair. I had some commentary in around Hubly that I cut for time but I thought she looked great. Never beat for lack of trying and always seems to be in the right place. I would wager this'll be Portland's worst game of the season in terms of defensive structure, much better things to come from them.
@@BusyWatchingWomensSoccer next to Chawinga it looked like Hubly was running through wet cement 😂 I can't blame her for that though. I certainly hope Portland can regroup quickly or Gotham is going to have a field day. Look forward to the next video! Love the breakdown of key plays, a lot of NWSL content doesn't get that specific so it's great to see.
@@nicholaspetrick Lol wet cement, it was a sight for sure. Gotham looked a bit messy last week too so it may just be a case of who can get cleaned up faster. If Lopez is out injured I think Portland have it in the bag.
Great channel. Great analysis!! I wish all games had this much scoring, then soccer would be much more interesting. There's waaay too many 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, etc. If a total of 5 goals was the average, the game would be much better. 1-0 is too much like watching baseball.
Sometimes I think of it as a game of trying to prevent the opposition from getting goals, and a low score would be good like golf. But then I remember, I don't watch golf and there's probably a reason why!
Portland’s had 3 new players in their back 4 (Payne, Müller, Obaze) plus adding Fleming in the midfield, so I think a lot of their inactivity and bad positioning was due to not having a ton of chemistry yet. I think this is especially exemplified in Payne’s play (RB), it was very apparent she was not in lock step with the rest of the team (yet!)
I thought individually there were some really nice moments, will be great to watch them come together over the season. Müller looked great moving the ball up the pitch and you can tell Payne is going to be menace!
Love the analysis, but calling the team "Kansas" has me choking lol. Kansas City is in Missouri, the training facility is in Missouri, the stadium is in Missouri...
Ha that's the brit in me not understanding American geography. I felt like saying "Kansas" was the equivalent to "Chelsea"! So so wrong, I think I'm probably going to die laughing if I have to watch it back now lol.
I need to start watching champions league, too many good things I'm missing! Gonna work on improving the video quality a little bit first but definitely want to get more international football covered.
You are helping us learn more about the game and the players. Thank you -- keep it up and we'll keep watching!
Thanks for the lovely feedback!
Chawinga is going to be an absolute menace. Her speed and strength is scary.
She's terrifying, I have no idea how teams try to stop her.

Excellent analysis! I especially love your taking apart those sections that do not result in a goal, but reveal the tactics. Thanks!
I love those sections too, it's fun finding 30 seconds of gameplay that can sum up 10-15 minutes of play.
This is my favorite soccer channel
Woah!

Agree it was a great opener, really good look for the league with the new stadium and coverage on ABC.
a+ videos. thanks for all the work.

Thanks for the intro!
Wasn’t as scary as I thought!

Keep this up! So informative. Would love to see reigns fc analysis.
Will definitely have to cover Reign, I think they have the only players from the UK in the NWSL right now? Just hoarding them.
