Zwei 20cm-Klingen Leuku von J.Marttiini im Vergleich.
I bought Marttiini Rovaniemi Lapinleuku knife at an estate sale, it’s in real good shape. Before I clean it up too much and ruin any value, l was wondering how to check how old it is. It’s a beautiful knife. Was wondering if someone could help.

habe gerade von einer Freundin die ältere Version da,welche sie verkaufen möchte.
Allerdings ist ihr Messer leider nicht in solch einem Zustand,wie das deinige Modell.

+stephan123321 Hallo Stephan, das ist ein klasse Messer. Ich finde die alte Version noch besser. Der Gebrauchtmessermarkt ist wie eine Chimäre. Manchmal erzielt man gute manchmal schlechte Preise. Zwischen 40 und 90 Euro ist alles drin. Ich muss mal schauen. Hatte eine Anfrage für ein solches Messer.... Ich kann mal fragen, ob er immer noch auf der Suche ist.

Я не уверен, но я думаю, что у старого есть лучшая сталь из нержавеющей стали с высоким содержанием углерода.

I am not sure on what experience you are basing that on? Mine is now more than 50 years old bought just at the Finnish border and has been used for splitting wood, cutting down small trees, building lavvo, etc. Alltough not ideal: used for butchering game, and cleaning fish. (is not primary function). I agree that there are better knives out there for certain tasks but these knives function quite adequate for the task at hand. After 50 years of hard use the handle is still firm allthough the copper plate at the end is a bit loose. Please could you share your experience with these knives?
@Gangster of Love I do not know what kind of changes they made in the last 50 years but mine is, as stated before, adequate for the jobs that I use it for. The metal is a little softer which is for these kind of tools not bad. I have also a Helle lappland which has a thinner blade and after sharpening is razor sharp. This however causes the Helle knife to get stuck sometimes when chopping wood. I find in that regard the Marttiini knife more effective because of the weight and blade geometry. Both are nice to hold in the hand when having mittens on when working in the cold. Also they are not so brittle in colder temperatures.
If so the Norwegian strømeng sami knife is more crappy. Tourist grade sheets with no insert, no mirror polish to slow down rust. And the wood handle is typically straight fibers that cracks easily.
