- A New York jury has found former US President Donald Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming former magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll, after she accused him of raping her in a Manhattan department store nearly 30 years ago. In a statement, E. Jean Carroll admitted to breaking the mould of the ‘silent generation’ by speaking out about what happened to her - but is there still a limit to when and how much women can speak up about similar experiences?

Not one person came to the witness stand in his defense, he didn't even show up. He knew he was going to lose and it's only one of many lawsuits he will face this year.

Love Janet, however I do not appreciate her commentary "she wasn't just a nobody" we are all somebody, and important in life.
That isn’t what she meant she had a strong voice and the opposite of what we thing of as a woman who wouldn’t speak up! Obviously we are all important
I agree totally. I think she is the best on this panel - love her honesty, but that comment was uncalled for - and I note she put herself in the category as 'important'. Have seen her in a different light now - is a snob - shown her true colours!
We all are aware of that, I would hope to believe, we all know what the term means. It is a generalisation that is quite well known as is 'being a somebody'

When I was interviewed forty years ago for a civilian Admin post in an RAF camp, I was asked could I cope with the unwanted interest that I would attract. As it happened I was posted to a UDR barracks instead where there was a Major based there who was a relative. I never made it known we were related but through the grapevine I learned he had ‘warned off’ certain ones not to go anywhere near me. Somethings in life have changed for the better and zero tolerance for unwanted attention is one of them.

So being ambitious is not a bad thing now.
You have to speak up regardless of whom it is or anything, because there are other ALWAYS other victims. Speaking out about things that have happened to you doesn’t make you whiny and it’s time other women start empathizing with those who do speak out. Stop trying to silence people all because you don’t like what they have to say.
Victims need to be taught as soon as the shock wears off to report assaults . Most victims just close off and that’s why these people continue to take advantage of situations
I reported. Nothing was done, not a thing. Nada. Years of DV-sexual abuse. No one bothered. 2% of perps actually see prison. Those are the stats. We don’t need to be to to report, people need to be told to KEEP THEIR DAMN YEARS TO THEMSELVES.

I just question if she were your boss and you reported serious sexual harrassment, would she minimize and offer no support? I suspect that is exactly what she would do.
