The men at the Los Pinos Indian agency found it rather odd he did not look as malnourished and threadbare as most lost wanderers they had ever come across. His face was bloated, and his overall physique was hardly skeletal. 2. Alfred carried multiple wallets every time he went into bars. Remember, he was penniless. 3. Minor correction: Israel wasn't the only corpse with defensive wounds. Two other corpses have bullet wounds to the hip and massive holes in their skulls.
I have epilepsy and sometimes you do lose your memory after a grand mal seizure but after sleep you gain it back. If you have your head drilled in to like me you lose all prior memories but gain some back

I think Alfred was just lying about them leaving him behind to cover for why he was alone. the group set up camp together, but once hunger set in, they killed one or two for food. this continued until it was just Alfred and Israel where they fought each other, either because they started thinking the food might run low again or paranoia set in.
