Wow! Talk about teaching an “old dog” (me) new tricks! I have never even thought of using the complement to shade a color! New things every time I log on!
Really good explanation and great demonstration! I haven' known yet how to reach such good values. Shading with complementary colors instead of black or other dark colors is new to me. I'm curious to try it out! I think it will offer a much wider range of values, which could be especially interesting, when I intend to use colors of one "family" only but also for specific an unusual contrasts. I'm happy to enjoy further videos from you! Best wishes from West Germany
David-I am looking forward to working with you at your workshop in Fairhope during October. I have used watercolor more than acrylics, but plan to use acrylics during the workshop. Do you have any tips for getting ready for your workshop? I will be practicing on the techniques discussed on these videos. Thanks for your hard work.
Google is a better reference than me. The technique I am showing is not media specific and will be the same for oil paint. Shading color is the same process regardless of medium.
I am a self learned artist in modern art myself. I paint in my own style. But I am very fortunate to get so much knowledge from you Great Master.
Thank you so much for your valuable and useful videos each time
Rupa, you’re welcome

Donna Brown thanks for signing up. You should get familiar with your materials, particularly if you haven’t worked much with acrylics.
is there a book on oil paints and shade technique .?blues to green.

Will do.
Ok I see tint and shade, what is a "tone" and how do I get a tone?
When tinting and shading you are making tones - tone is value, the degree of light and dark in a painting.
@@davidm.kesslerfineart1717 Ok. I see what you mean. Thank you for answering my question.
