i remember listening to a radio after days of no lights after hurricane Ike. a nurse from a senior home building was calling a radio host for help because seniors were trapped because their elevator wasnt working and they were running out of supplies. they were old and disabled so they cant use stairs. emergencies were busy helping flooded area so they were being ignored. i got my power back 2 and a half week later so who knows what happened to them. and this was what 16 years ago and nothings improved, maybe its worse now
As stated in the video, TDADS (Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services) does not require senior living facilities to provide a backup generator. If there is one onsite it's probably suppling power to the Kitchen (lighting, refrigerator and freezer). If these facilities were properly prepared, they would have had their own portable generators and heavy-duty extension cords, fans or even portable A/C's to help comfort the seniors.
Why would the facility (as you said) be more prepared and have their own generators when the government is not requiring them to do so? That means more money the facility would have to spend. They are not going to do that.
@@BoneyandBearrilla You are correct, they would more than likely would not want to spend more money. I actually was referring to assisted living facilities in Texas. I missed the part where the reporter said that it was a senior independent living location.

Shameful ! We here in Liberty County are very lucky to have a great utility company. Sam Houston Electric was trimming trees from highline before the storm and power back on very quickly. I waited for 5 days but we prepared and were comfortable .
These type facilities should be mandated to have generators. Sadly hurricane Ike power was out for over a month in some places. This time around the electric linemen are doing a great job its barely been 9 days and most of the grid is fixed

@@ryvirkelley5047 youre saying a hurricane was deliberately used to knock out power for seniors in living homes? why not just flip the breaker? crash a light pole? makes no sense
I think sadly the areas that got hit the hardest got power first. I live in katy which was literally directly in the middle of the hurricane's path and we got power within 2 days of it going out. The areas farther off from the hurricane's impact zone are lower on the priority list even though every area should be accounted for considering the 100-degree heat. But sadly theres not enough linemen for that tho
Dude, even firehouses didn't have generators. 9! It's only my second year in texas and I'm shocked that these critical services are not prepared for an emergency. Ive lost power countless times in only those 2 years, we saved up to get a generator as soon as we could.
@@dazesalaz6879 You are better prepared than 90% of the population in Texas, very few are self-sufficient off-grid. @@SuspiciousGanymedeAnd what happens when the other 90% get generators? How many of those will be gas powered? Did you see the lines at the gas stations that were open with power to pump gas the day after Beryl?
Ok geniuses because the state doesn't require generators should not be a reason for excuses. A responsible facility would have had generators and other support items available. Period.
After only tropical storm sustained winds, with mere gusts to Cat 1 strength, 9 days without power is criminal. Just a couple months ago, we had 115 mph wind gusts and because our power grid was fortified by Entergy, power outages were rare, and everyone had power back by the next day.
When will it be time to discuss a new power company …that will be allowed the monopoly/dictatorship of sourcing Houston’s electricity? Sadly, I believe it’s the same politicians that are supposedly calling them into account. So we’ll see how that goes
Sorry for the Elderly and all those who are suffering still this week. Wouldn't this be considered a State emergency and have the Army deploy water and portable cooling facilities? Could other Electric repair contractors from other States come and help out? Can we do a little better America?
they don't need money....those places shown are expensive and the people have money to buy in....the problem is the power went down due to storms....you can't prevent storms....even generators have their problems...fumes, expensive to run, noisy, and one has to constantly feed them to keep them going....
I feel for the seniors, but let's be real here. When you're unprepared, shits can happen. It is Murphy's Law. Gotta stay prepared at all times. Have your foods, water, energy sources secured and ready every year before hurricane season. So that you won't be a part of the news.
What a bunch of simpletons you are. This is NOT a political party issue!
