it's crazy to hear her talk about not feeling beautiful compared to other girls on instagram-- the first thing I thought when the video started is "wow, she is so gorgeous, like a young Meryl Streep". I guess it just goes to show how social media and instagram in particular can warp our realities. I really loved this episode in particular and learned a lot zoubieeeee

Basically on the memory part, our brain is not a repository of collected facts as we mistaken it to be. Our brain constructs the “memory” only when we recall it; the constructed memory is therefore not always accurate and in fact, varies by our mood, situation and feelings at the time of recollection.

as a philosophy major, this video made me so happy. most of the time when I tell people I studied philosophy, they're like...but like WHYyyYYYYyyy though??! and I think it's a subject everyone should learn about/read about at some point! it's enriched my life so much and made me a better person more likely to live a fulfilling life

YES about success - success is such an outward perception or recognition of your achievements/actions, living our lives in search of fulfilment however is much more personally aligned and so much more rewarding.
This has been one of my favourites. Anna was amazing. I'd love more of these philosophy talks. Just ordered Myth of Sisyphus.
I would recommend buying The Stranger along with it, it's essentially novel about the absurd man. Helped me understand The Myth of Sisyphus better, and on a deeper level.

studying philosophy and french at school do this is super interesting holy crap,,
I wish I would have had the option to study philosophy in school! It's a shame because you never know you're interested in something until you know it exists, but unfortunately for some of us, our school systems prioritize things like complex calculus equations I HAVE LITERALLY NEVER NEEDED AFTER THE TEST

@@damondominique actually, I'm from Austria, and at "highschool" (Gymnasium) you have philosophy in senior year (and psychology in junior year). However it's such a broad field it's difficult to cover a lot 😅
when you were talking about memory and how every time you think about that memory you change it, is why i'm afraid to tell anyone about my childhood trauma because i think they won't believe me because of that very thing
