In this devlog I show you the progress on my 2d top-down bullet heaven game with over 1000 enemies on the screen at the same time. I use C++ and OpenGL to make this game.
The game reminds me of Jonas Tyroller's "Double the Fun" video, so I hope you can use the tips in it to increase the "juice" and interesting decisions in this game
If you add a few more rows to your level CSV, where you assign characters to spawn point definitions then you can reference them in the map itself with a single character and avoid having odd offset details on lines with spawners. E.g. 70,48,429,5 a,3-0:20:800-40:20:600 b,3-10:4:100,40:8:300. 1,1,1,1,1 1,0,0,0,1 1,a,0,0,1 1,0,0,b,1 1,1,1,1,1
I'm editing the map in google sheets and there all the cells have the same size, but depending on how complex the data is going to become I might start using references.
camera has nice interpolated movement when adjusting for the cursor however player movement makes it immediately move alongside it without any interp Really niche suggestion and not necessary for gameplay but thats all i can really say
Looks awesome :^D godspeed!
About the map layout, flashgame series Boxhead can give you some good inspiration
Thanks! :)
I did have that game in mind while brainstorming ideas, but I couldn't remember the name. Now I can look it up again, thx^^

yeah, I'm worried that the camera is going to much all over the place, if that movement is interpolated aswell
