I tought I saw you on the video, and now on the comments I can confirm that indeed it was you :) ... glad to be subscribed to your channel too. Cheers!
My grandfather flew F-100s with the 389th during Vietnam before transferring to F-4s. I still have his original handwritten bombing and gunnery notes along with his maps he kept of day and night strikes flying out of Thailand into North Vietnam. Thanks for all the attention to detail!
Thank you for making these detailed devlogs! The DCS community loves being kept up to speed with these things. The flight model tool looks fascinating.
Proper software and numerics, great attentiont to the models and assets, and real passion for this airframe. It will be worth buying the module just to support this high-quality work.
@@pd28cat Yes, I get it. Just saying that when you see a new developer saying/doing a lot of things right, it's a big plus in the decision to get the module (if it's feasible for you, of course). Even if you want the module to study/collect rather than fly regularly.
As a former F-16 crew chief and avid DCS simmer, this really hits home. You are going above and beyond with your investment into minute details and authenticity. There are other highly regarded 3rd party developers for DCS, but they are in for a real competition with you guys. Interesting for me to see how the brake unit is installed from the outside of the wheel, whereas on the F-16, the wheel must come off first, before the brake unit can be removed. Thank you for sharing, and best of luck with your project, I will be following this closely. And PS, beware of sabre dances, I've heard they are a real problem.
It's so cool to see the progress of a DCS module. Love the gun camera integration! Small things like that are minor, but add to immersion and fun. And DANG. Look at that brake pack! When we finally have the F-100 in game, we'll know that the aircraft down in TX that we've seen on DieselThunder is literally part of the finished product. Bad ass stuff.
This looks incredible - thank you for the transparency and involving us in the development process. Can see the love poured into this, hard not to be excited for this one as a result!
Amazing! This is the attention to details I want, not friction in needles (sorry HB :D) Also the focus on maximizing PC performance. Can't wait, it will be blast flying it together with 104.
Beat me to it. The F-100 and the F-104 killed a lot of young pilots. Missiles with men in them with high wing loading. You need to be on your speeds and their associated AOA limits. LOOOOONG USAF runways were to get B-36's and Century series jets airborne. Fly those interceptors like you would a Mustang or F-86 and you end up with a dance partner that kills you after yanking the stick back just ten knots too slow. Unrecoverable "Sabre Dances" (pitch up/inertial coupling)
I have plenty of other modules so I was initially hesitant about buying this one. After this video it is currently on the top of my purchase list. Keep up the great work.
In life, since I have very few ties to the F-100 and think it's kinda ugly, I was just like "meh" when you first announced it would be a DCS module. That has changed. Holy. Smokes. The amount of work you guys have put in to a digital rendition of this beautiful and under recognized piece of aviation technology is beyond words. I am astounded by the quality of your luck, and green with envy of your opportunities to be with, touch, and work on this aircraft. Thank you for what you're doing, and thank you even more for the updates! Intend to purchase F-100 when able.
By far the most frequent and in-depth development update out there. Sure buy on day one. Nothing more rewarding then flying an iconic and challenging early cold war jet. Hope somewhere down the line you're also consider the F model as well. Would love to recreate some of those daring AFAC missions in remembrance of those brave 'Misty' pilots. Keep up the good work.
Fantastic update - love the insights into the dedication that is put into DCS modules (and what a great experience for the team to get involved in the Wings over Huston event)
This is the one I have been waiting for and you are not disappointing me! It looks fabulous! Keep up the great work and love how much you guys are enjoying it all ;)
1:30. That level of wear seems about right, to me. Somewhat used but not too worn out like it came from the boneyard. 🙂. Another option might be nice, if it’s just a matter of changing out some texturing files…near new, like right out of the depot (although, I suspect there were no new F-100Ds with that modified/updated equipment configuration), or well worn in like 1972 condition? Also, I assume the first digit selection knob will be limited to either 2 or 3 in the release? 666 MHz is not in the UHF band. 😉 Thanks for the great update! Really looking forward to the ol’ Hun. Are you guys thinking of making another module after the Hun? Maybe eyeing the F-105D Thud next? Or maybe the OV-10?😉
The GENERAL will never see it coming! Love your content. When Tony does that yell/scream thing he sound like Tom from Tom and Jerry when his tail gets set on fire
did you guys model the lockwire at 0:38 yourselves? or was that taken directly from the photogrammetry? could be a flipped thread but if its not that lockwire is the wrong way around (minor detail I know but still). I love this project, its gonna be awesome to see this in DCS
@@grinnellidesigns ah fair enough. I love that you guys actuallysolved such a detail. Only aircraft mechanics will really notice that to be fair. good work!
Cant wait for the Super Sabre! Out of curiosity how much attention do you plan on giving force feedback? If thats something that you even discussed at this stage. The cockpit looks amazing.
please please PLEASE make (at least) two versions of the cockpit -- pristine -- weathered/used/worn if there was variation between airframes, that would be cool too (please?)
While programming would be a matter of adding multicrew and modifications of a few systems, the art would be the most time consuming factor. Its not the focus at the moment but not off the table either.
Built this plane as a 1:72 Revell model back when I was a kid. I always thought it was a handsome and cool plane. A bit unconventional. Like.a Bristol car.
@grinnellidesigns if you have questions about markings and names and things like that i can get pictures. I would love to see a Terre Haute jet on dcs. Let me know if you need contact info.
Do you have any interest in including the F in the pack at some point since you have so much data on it already? Would be fun for wild weasel use and training newer pilots.
Why is the Zoom XY mic placed on the HUD and not behind the pilot's head? "Strategically" - Wouldn't the HUD placement make the record of sound which would not reflect the actual position of sound sources the pilot hears? Asking as I actually use similar Zoom XY mic and recorder and I know how much the position of the source changes the feel of spacial placement of audio source in the final mix.
As one of the commenters said, I would love a clean cockpit option. The MiG-21 finally has one. At any rate, this is very impressive work. Cant Wait! This a 2025 release? I know, two weeks. LOL
We have taken feedback from around the community and we will take extra care that all cockpit liveries will meet the community expectation. We will continue to push hard to make 2025 the year of the Catfish!
@@grinnellidesigns You certainly don't want to go "noodling" with that jet! Are you going to model the inertia coupling? The fireball should be much larger when new butter bars auger a Super Sabre on take off, versus with tanks nearly dry on landing. So many new drivers lost their lives flying it like their old F-86s and Mustangs.
Spitballing and idea. GD, If your team perfects that physics engine, I wonder if you could license it out for other DCS dev teams. Which would in turn improve the dcs modules and help your team grow and develop future projects. Just a thought.
If you play online and slot into an F-100 with a probe you will be able to remove it so you are never stuck with a configuration you don't like. The afterburner however will be fixed via mission creators selection.
Can you guys just ... you know .... build your own cold war jet sim? I know that's kind of a huge ask but... yeah. Let's just say it would be nice to have a DCS alternative that isn't build on 20 year old code!
Glad we were able to help with our F, been awesome to be able to assist with the DCS D model!

Thanks for updating us guys. I'm really looking forward to using your module to learn about the Super Saber.
That Guncam feature is a nice surprise. Wish you could have a chat with ED so see if it could be "somehow" incorporated into the other modules as well
This will definitely be a very good DCS module.
Thank you very much for your passion.

Since ya’ll got to use a two seat F model for reference, are there any plans in the future to add the two seat wild weasel model?

A weird question, but how do you get that guitar sound? Is that overdrive and flanger or what? I don't think it's a wah-pedal, or is it?
Also, if you want the flight model to be truly engaging, I'd suggest the complete AoA coverup - not just 30° up and down (and -180° +180° in beta)
Is the -21 afterburner going to come with malfunctions you mentioned?
yes, it will be represented on release.
Slamming my credit card on the table. I have the f4. I want the f100 next.
So what paint schemes are you going to have at launch? Can I suggest 979 of the 181st tfg. The last operational usaf with a combat unit.
I will add to the list for sure!

For safety reasons we had to adhere to the restrictions placed on us. This was something I took very seriously and had to respect and conform to.

Why do you render in 30 fps and then decode to 25 for YT publication?
Your video is choppy and motion jumps like a drunk rabbit.
