How To Be a Light in Darkness

  • Fr. Mark-Mary and Br. Malachy talk about how to push back the darkness and truly be a light in the world.
They witness to the light that has overcome the darkness in their lives, and the lives of many who have encountered them since they’ve lived in this light. It’s the light of Christ, the fire of the Holy Spirit, or the fire of God’s burning love for us. We obtain it by saying yes to God every day, like the saints did. Do this, and ten times out of ten the darkness in your life will flee.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5)

I thank God everyday that I began studying theology, the history of Protestantism, and history of Christians and the first church. It lead me home to the truth, to the Church Christ built. Unfortunately sin makes us blind...that is why we have to pray to God for guidance, pray to God to guide us through the process / journey of life, pray to God to give us the strength to resist evil wicked ways / things. We have to pray to God for His Grace, for His blessings, for His Mercy. I am grateful to God for giving life, I thank God for every single day of my life. I need my Catholic Faith in my daily life 🙏🙏♥️♥️ 😇👼 Thank you so much Frier Mark Mary, and company. GOD blessed you both

Thank you for this. I work as a music therapist in juvenile detention. It's so hard sometimes because we pour our lives into these kids and then they parole and reoffend. It's heartbreaking and it feels like a losing battle....darkness. But I will say yes and ask Jesus to help me bring the light. Also, I would be grateful for your prayers. I am not going to be able to eat dinner with my family on Easter because I will be at work. I made an appeal and there was an adjustment so I don't have to leave Mass early. But not able to go to work late enough to eat dinner. It's especially hard because i live alone and seeing my nieces and nephews and siblings and parents is important to me. I'm trying to see it as a sacrifice and offer my loneliness up. But it's hard not to feel sorry for myself. Please pray that I can be loving and kind and not come across as resentful. Thank you.

My freshman year I had to be a light in darkness when I was in the toxic environment of my local catholic high school. It was terrible. I was bullied mercilessly, and people were just not kind to outsiders. It sucked, but I didn't swear at them like they did to each other, and for the most part, I was pretty calm. 2 years later, after unpausing a friendship with someone who decided she wasn't a firm believer, my mom told me again and again to "Be a light", and I have been, and I'm being confirmed tomorrow, so I've seen this as a reflection for a part of my journey

@Austin Brown : She is already baptized. It is a non-sense for someone to ask a second time to receive the baptism ! More than a lack of faith, it is insulting to God not to believe His word. She has already received the Holy Spirit and re-born in Christ.
At a baby, it is not a choice indeed but this is her parents'decision to put her on the way to Christ. The Holy Spirit received tha day has helped her since. Being Christian is a day to day choice. We continually choose to put God first in our life. This is not a "once for all". However, as she wrote she has been "confirmed", which is the catholics sacrament that we do, once adult, in order to fully commit to live as Christian.
We get baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit - as Jesus has asked us to do. Jesus is the Son.

I recently read a book about Saint Gianna Beretta Molla and how she was martyred giving her life for the life of her child. She said 100% yes to God and even though she suffered through her pregnancy she knew the grace that she was giving that child by choosing her child over her own life. Even in her darkest depressed moments she knew that by saying “yes” to God and His will that she was infighting a flame in the darkness and giving hope to other women who found themselves in similar situations. Many thanks Brothers! And Happy Holy Week!

Stephen Golden , a few years ago, I began asking people their names when I shared alms with them. Then I ask if they are OK if I pray for them. I generally mean that I will remember them in my prayers, but sometimes they indicate that they want prayer right then and there. It kind of threw me off the first time that it happened, but I can honestly say that some of my most beautiful and powerful prayer experiences have been in sharing prayer with strangers on the street. I only hope and pray that they have been blessed as I have.

    • @powerliftingcentaur
      @powerliftingcentaur 5 років тому +1

Sherry Siler I shall have to think on that! Up until now, I have asked them to try and keep body and soul together-something I desire in return form my alms. Actually, I wrote a haiku about alms giving.

@Austin Brown Thank you for the opportunity to dive deeper into my faith :) Yes, I was baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Baptism is a sacrament and the graces I recieved as an infant are lifelong and do not need to be repeated. It is a blessing to recieve the removal of original sin as a baby, instead of carrying the weight of original sin with you for years. Here is the biblical reasoning for infant baptism:
"Peter explained what happens at baptism when he said, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). But he did not restrict this teaching to adults. He added, “For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him” (2:39). These commands are universal, not restricted to adults."
More detail is given in Luke’s account of this event, which reads: “Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him, saying, ‘Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God’” (Luke 18:15-16).
If Jesus said “let them come unto me,” who are we to say “no,” and withhold baptism from them?
      I pulled the answers from
www.catholic.com/tract/infant-baptism because they said it better than I! If you have any questions or qualms about it read the forum for there is more information. Thank you again and blessings to you brother :)

Nihilism is a lie. A huge one. God is love and joy and you will get peace of heart by pursuing Him. He is the ONLY ONE who can fulfill your heart. You have been created to love and live with God. That's your purpose, to get united to him now, to serve him and love him, and, if you do that on this life, you will be blessed forever. Do not fail the "test" by believing Satan! God bless

She may be suffering from post-partum depression. Has she seen a doctor about her hopelessness? I know your post is 10 months old, but it's never too late. Let us know how she is now, please.

Please, dear brothers, what if I want to say yes to God's voice in mids of darkness but I really don't hear it? I don't hear anything at all, just empty darkness...what now?

Dávid that very moment when you wanted to say yes God heard your voice. God takes a hundred steps towards you when you make your first move. Repent and surrender. To listen to God speaking, read the scriptures, start from the gospels.

How do you say yes if you don't know what God wants you to do? This vagueness is what frustrates me the most.

@Austin Brown I was baptised in thr name of the Father, the Son, anf the Holy Spirit.
I have not spoken in tounges. In scripture when the appostles did they they spoke their native language, while people of other langusges understood. The whole gibberish stuff that some protestants do, seema very sketchy to me, and I believe is a perversion of what what the appostles did.

@Lynn Adamson i. Do that a lot. I even did it twice yesterday (once after reading your response) i don't 2ver hewr anything. I eother get sleepy, or anxious when i sit and "listen" i don't kno2 what im listeming for. How long should I do it for? 1 hour gets me sleeoy or frustrated. 2hours? Ive donw that before b amd still nothing. Do i need to go to adoration for 12 hours? Will God tslk to me then? What if he doesn't in thst tjme and i become even more frustrated?

@@scotchtapeworm3755 Brother, if you're not doing that already, I suggest you going to confession, especially during this Holy Week. It helps a lot to hear the voice of God clearer. When you pray, don't expect an answer right away, often his answer will come through small opportunities along the way, through words you hear or read and that suddenly strike a chord. Be patient and thrust the Lord in guiding you. In Christ.
