What made Reading Rainbow so great is that LeVar Burton knew how to talk to kids in a way they could understand without talking down to them. Nobody else could have gotten me so interested in reading.

+SilvaDreams No offense but youre making millennials out to be worse than they actually are, i get what you mean, kids these days need to connect to their roots and have good morals instilled in them, but the internet is so powerful and innovative in millions of ways and yet you choose to see the cup as half empty. Sorry, I'm just tired of seeing these comments from adults that romanticize the past :/

Jordan Tai Sorry but I grew up with the internet and I know how useful it can be, I had internet access long before most house holds did. It doesn't change the fact that parents don't supervise their kids at all and are so afraid to punish them, tell them no, or take away their things for fear of it being called abusive.

I love Reading Rainbow so much. I am 21 now, and in college, but I will never forget how my 2nd grade teacher let us watch this show everyday at snack time. My family couldn't afford the higher channels in cable so PBS Kids was the only kid's channel I had. Reading Rainbow was such a huge part of my childhood - and now I'm an English major! Thanks Levar! :)

+Bruce Wayne They couldn't afford cable because they were sacrificing it all during my childhood so that they could save up to send me to college. It wasn't a lot of money, but I've made up the difference myself with scholarships I've worked my ass off to get. Now my parents don't have to pay a dime, so I'm GLAD I didn't have cable.
But I guess Bruce Wayne wouldn't have to worry about things like that - after all, you've got your Batman credit card - never leave the cave without it...

I remember when in class they had us write why we loved books.
    This is what I wrote
" books let me go on adventure I'd never be able to do"
Even to this day if I can't sleep I'll make a story in my head, or read a book. I have always been a head in all my reading classes. I still find my self humming reading rain bow and its a wonderful day in this naberhood (still can't spell)

Watching these remixes I realized that out of all the classic PBS personalities from my childhood in the 80s, Levar Burton is the only one still alive. Mr. Rogers, Captain Kangaroo, Bob Ross, Carol Spinney, Jim Henson, all gone.

Old as in 40s 50s maybe, but not old as in 80s-90s. The late 80s through the 90s to even the early 2000s were amazing for learning. PBS, TLC, history channel etc. Zabomafoo (SP), In between the lions, reading rainbow, sesame street etc were all very educational. Now it's about reality TV and shows for the simple minded (show attention spans) that plague these channels now.

Tink Reading Rainbow was my childhood but I also learned to read at 3 since my mom would always read to me before I went to sleep. Those were the days.

This has to be the best program ever aired on PBS. When I was a child, this was an inspiration to me; reading about different cultures, societies, ages, and even fiction was mesmerizing. Not only did I escape the doldrums of ordinary life, I felt like I was a pioneer, and adventurer, in a brand new world each time I turned the page. Reading Rainbow is what drove me to be the person I am, and am ever thankful for Levar Burton and this show. I wish kids today had this.

I thank God for people like: LeVar Burton & Fred Rogers. These two men have been teachers and mentors to me from afar. Every Child needs to understand that they have potential and they can do and be anything they want to, if you believe in yourself. Everyone has a part to play to make the world we share a better
    place to live in. 😊
