I almost finished this game when I was a kid, but got stuck. I got Word Detective in a collection with Cluefinders: Reading Adventure and Super Solvers: Gizmos and Gadgets in a Learning Company Collection of games, that my parents got us for our old computer years ago.
How far did you get in Word Detective before you got stuck? If you want to play it again, I added the link from where it comes in my description of this video. 😉

Yes, I LOVE looking for codes and clues in this game and solving the word exercises. 😁 But being very adept at math, I enjoy Math Detective and the exercises in it a lot more. 😉
I thought you were going to head for Otto's hideout first like I did, along with all the other missions. 🙁
I did what I did when I played the game as a kid in which I traveled to the first default villain hideout. Notalotenkammen's crypt is the first default hideout, and that's why I went there.
I think I also subconsciously chose it because I preferred seeing Otto for the first time when I take the keys from his hideout. Plus it was always amusing to see him get knocked out silly with those books because he forgot that the cart he held above his head had books in it! 😁😄 Now that's what I call "heavy reading"!!! 😅😆🤣
