    Just bought a 2017
    76 series and can't wait to start setting it up to tour this magic country.
    2nd row seats coming out and modded to just escape.
    Gotta get out to your side of the world. Looks sensational. Thanks for sharing.
    Cheers Mick

    Once you've had a sun visor you can't have another car without it.
    Sun visors help with driver fatigue, cab temperature and provide longevity of interior.
    Many people don't realise that despite the angle of the sun, most light comes vertically down from above. The sun visor stops this light coming in and giving you tired eyes.
    Sun visors are solid, they make no noise, they don't catch birds and they don't rattle. They are silent.
    A sun visor should be painted Matt Black underneath to stop glare bouncing and reflection.
    Where I work all our Toyota's are fitted with Hy Way sun visors. It's the authentic Toyota OEM maker - made in Australia.

    Great video mate! Love the beast! I've got a dual cab 2018 model. If you look after it mate you won't kill it. Just be careful with those airbags in the rear. Big no no fitting airbags to leaf spring suspension as it changes and amplifies the load position and has bent or broken the chassis on many vehicles, especially on rough, corrugated tracks. My mate's 79 was one of them. He had them removed and had the chassis straightened and reinforced. You might get away with it as the 78 series troopy has less overhang than a 79. I'd keep an eye on it. Again thanks for sharing mate, i thoroughly enjoyed your review! Go the 70's!

      Thanks Jimbo,
      I'm hoping it will be ok, I inflate them to about 20psi at most which only takes a slight bit of pressure out of the shocks.

    Nice one Salty! I appreciate the practicality of your build. Would you be able to do a video on your recovery gear? I know you touched on your winch, but I’m interested to know if you have anything else (tyre changing etc.). I am in the middle of a dual cab build and I’m up to recovery gear. So I’m looking for ideas.

    Would be awesome to get 1200km out of the two tanks. I have the single 130L tank in my dual cab (2018 with remap) and im pushing my 3.2T GVM. I tend to fill up at 600L when the light comes on but it still has 30L in reserve at this point. I’m generally running around 16L/100km with or without rooftop tent on. Tent doesn’t seem to make much difference when you have the aerodynamics of a tissue box, just makes it a slightly taller tissue box.

    Hi salty I Have a v8 troopy as well 2010 model do you find with your 90 litre fuel tanks that you only get 75 to 80 litres out of them

    • @e210dall3
      @e210dall3 4 роки тому +2

      You can run the tanks dry if you wish. Just keep driving after the warning light comes on. ( don't recommend it though) When touring with our V8 Troopy we find it does 12L/100km on easy runs and we run the tank till we hit 700km then switch over. On slower terrain we generally switch tanks when we hit 600km , where it uses 13 - 14L/100km . There's always been at least 6 litres left in the tanks. We know the car very well and have a good feel regards fuel usage. Our normal lazy mode is to switch the tanks at 500km. ( just a habit ) that way we know we have heaps in reserve but it's nice to know what it can do. Enjoy your troopy Scott. Best vehicle by far

    @22:30 Salty, dude nobody at fuel stations is deliberately watering down diesel dude, it’s oil and oil + water doesn’t mix. The way you said it makes it sound like they are adding water to diesel to rip people off. Water cases havoc with the fuel pumps as well, the extra cost of maintenance on the pump would far out way any profit they might make even if they dreamed about doing it. Was a bit surprised you suggested this.

    I know you said it doesn’t have the comfort / luxury of a 200 series .. but everyone hates the seats .. the basic interior, wheel track , extra spare .. by the time everyone spends all the cash 💰 doing the 70 series troopys , wagons up might as well get a 200? baffling..... I can understand if you love driving manuals . ..but otherwise it’s 200 series all the way for me ..

    • @RileyyWho
      @RileyyWho 4 роки тому +1

      the solid axle of the 70's are appealing to some people, more mods to do on the 70's, pretty bush proof (especially the older ones). panels are cheaper, resale value of 70's are higher than 200 series, too many stock electronic features in the 200 series. (70's come with diff locks meanwhile 200's have a lot of other weird traction control garbage). Parts are more common to find for 70's (because theyre everywhere). Some old mods still work for the new 70's due to lack of design change. Just preference at the end of the day.

    • @sand_shifter

      Toasty Toast I’m aware that a live front axel would be the biggest drawcard a I owned an 80 series for 17 years and driven troopies for work , Land Rovers series 2 , 3 and 110s and they are definitely superior 4wds ... but everyone complains about 70series and then proceeds to modify them to make them like a 200 .. my 200 is awesome... low range , traction control off .. low tyre pressure.. it’s unreal.. and all the extras are already there , auto , real wheel offset , coils , twin turbo great seats .. like you say personal preference I guess ... #200series for me

    • @RileyyWho
      @RileyyWho 4 роки тому

      @@sand_shifter fair enough, 200's are more tourers though. 70's can be set up to tour (reasonably comfortable but at a cost) or can be set up as play cars. with a rear axle coil conversion etc. don't see many play 200's with massive lift, good approach/departure angles etc. 200's are well capable but 70's are more versatile. 80's are the best 4wd Toyota have ever made in my opinion. Comfortable with solid axle and coils - the 80's need to make a comeback.

    • @c10196

      You can buy a 200 GX for less than a 78 or 79 NEW without the need to soundproof, replace seats, brakes, rear diff, stereo, centre console, door cards the list goes on.
      A stock 200 will return as good a resale in percentage terms as any 70 series. I've owned 8 cruisers all with live axles and lockers give me the 200 twin turbo and comfort for 1400km day trips across the Barkly any day.

    • @RileyyWho
