  • A tribute to the Street Freaks! Definitely one of my favorite eras in car culture. These cars were over the top with their stance, paint jobs and tires! To me this was one of the most creative classes of cars and deserve to be remembered.

That trans am with the elcamino blended in was crazy. All of them rolling works of art though. A time in automotive history we will never see again. Now it's about ambiguity. Nothing can be special or look different. Everyone does the same thing as everyone else.

I'll never forget the conversation I overheard between my Uncle and his boy when I was 8 years old. We were walked down the street and there was a lowrider parked next to the curb. This was in 1974. My Uncle said to his kid, "Lowrider, or Highrider son?" as he pointed at the car and also a sky-high '55 Chevy parked across the street. The kid said with much enthusiasm, "Highrider, Daddy!" I think of that every time I see one of these "Street Freaks". They called them Highriders back in the day.

I remember those days with wild looking cars. @1:50 isn't that the car used in the movie "Corky" with Robert Blake? How about an EV with a straight axle and oversized plug receptacle! Thanks for the memories.

I think lowered vehicles for the street suck. I have a 1986 Chevy Crew Cab 1-Ton 4X4. It has a 12" lift with 40" tires. One day I was at a car show with it, and I was parked at the end of a row of lowered trucks. My truck was surrounded with people looking at it while nobody was looking at the lowered trucks. The guys with the lowered trucks got mad, and told me I had to move my truck.

Great video...tyvm for posting! Growing up in So Cal in the 60's and 70's, I was treated to seeing cars like these all over the place. The wild paint jobs, custom body work, and Krazy stances, was what it was all about. Of course, at the time, I was reading all manner of car magazines too...Hot Rod, Car Craft, and one-off Special Edition mags featuring wild drag racing pics, car shows, etc. Was a great era, for this car-centric kid (who still appreciates them today). ✌😎
