Anybody had any major problems with this latest model terrova? This one has been great but I've only got a few outings on it, and I'd like to know what to watch for?
@@chrisbenedict4927 I know you're probably talking to the other guy but I actually bought mine as a new boat take off and didn't get a manual with it. It would probably be a good idea to download it.
@@chrisbenedict4927 I installed my Terrova Saturday. I did not get a manual. I got a quick use guide. I even had to google how to pair the remote to the motor
I love it! I'm on week 2 of the covid so I haven't been fishing, but I'm hoping I can shake it in the next couple days and get out. Thanks for watching!
Just curious why you wouldn’t use the transducer that’s built in. I have mine hooked up to a helix 7 and works awesome. No cables to worry about cutting off and stuff like that. I had a PowerDrive 55 and switched to a terrova 80 lb last week.
Just an fyi, that's not a gps puck, it's a heading sensor (compass) and it's only function is to allow you to use the jog function while in spotlock mode Also!!! Make sure you move your tension knob/depth collar down all the way when you travel on the water or trailering on the highway. That is a safety catch so your motor doesn't deploy on accident!!!
Yeah, I get used to seeing people call it a gps puck on facebook and then can't remember heading sensor lol. Thanks for the info on the safety catch. I'll do that from now on!
Thanks man, I somehow convinced my wife that a guy really needs a kayak...and a boat🙂 I've never really done much trolling, maybe I should try it more.
Caught two more but the camera wasn’t working. OK, ; ) All joking aside, thanks for the video. I just bought one and forgot I was supposed to calibrate it.
You're very welcome! Yep, still working great! No issues👍. I'm happy with the power for this boat and the lakes I fish. That said, if the boat had room for another battery I would've gone 24v just because you can't have too much power imo
Wonderful video. Im a new owner of a Riptide Powerdrive Gen2. WIll I need that heading sensor puck in order to get to the Sensor Calibration mode on my remote?
Thanks! That's a good question. I don't think you'll have anything to calibrate unless you add the heading sensor. What year is the motor? They started including them in 2017, I believe.
@@Midwesthookset Mine is the recent/current generation Riptide and I didn't get the heading sensor. I saw on another video mentioning the Powerdrive is an entry level Ipilot and doesn't come standard with that puck.
Ok, then the sensor can be added if you choose. I'm betting your remote has the calibration menu already, and if you add the sensor, you can calibrate it. If you don't add it, there's nothing to calibrate. Some say it will hold your boat in a tighter radius, some disagree. I do know it enables the jog feature, which allows you to move your boat 5ft in any direction with the push of a button. I still haven't tried it yet lol.
I don't believe so but I'll check in the morning. I haven't heard that before. The trolling motor I replaced was mounted the same way and I didn't see any issues when I swapped them. Both are 55lb thrust.
Went out and looked and the welds on the bow. I'm not sure how the welds on a Tracker compare but I really don't think there's anything to worry about on this alumacraft. Very heavy duty welds.
Id be really surprised if you ever had a problem with it. I mean, most of the trackers come to the dealer with trolling motors already installed directly to the bow, don't they?
have u ever had any problems with your Minkota terrova fifty five pounds trust I am planning on getting one this summer oh next year I am just doing dome research right now on what people think of them right now I have a power drive v2 but I am looking on getting spot lock
No problems at all. I wouldn't be without it. If you have room for 3 batteries or the money for 1 24v battery, I'd say get a 24v and higher thrust. But my 55 on this boat does what I need it to.
U have to do it fairly slow also. I was trying to do mine fast and it wouldn’t calibrate. Turned the trolling motor down to 3 and it calibrated right off the bat
I started out using a #1 or 1/0 but wasn't having a great hookup ratio, it improved when I went to 2/0. Do you use a shorter shank hook, like a wacky hook?
You will probably need another battery if you run Auto Pilot and Spotlock a lot. It will kill one battery in about 4 hours. I am running the same setup with two 27 series batteries. I troll a lot in high winds. Two batts work much better.
I fish on big water….the Columbia River and mostly for salmon and smallmouth. I have the same TM and quickly upgraded my battery to LiFepo4 100 ah battery. It now will run 5-6 times longer than with a new standard deep marine battery. I can troll at 6-9 power all day. I have yet to even come close to draining the battery. Before it would get about 2-3 hours and then slow wayyy down.
Yeah, I should probably redo this vid in the spring. I almost didn't post it when i seen the camera didnt pick up the screen but I thought maybe just telling what steps I was going through would be enough to help some people. I think I can do better🙂
Can you tell me how much the Terrova 55 pound thrust tolling motor weighs? Because of my back issues, I am hoping it is noticeably lighter than the 80 pound thrust Terrova. Thanks, Tony
I really have no idea and dont have an easy way to weigh it either. I will say that with the lift assist, it's much nicer to stow than my pre '17 Terrova and the Maxxum I had in the past.
The heading sensor offset. I believe. I still haven't done that one. I keep forgetting lol. Thanks for watching! Mine has been working great, knock on wood. It put in work today!
Fantastic! I'm jealous! I'm getting geared up for ice fishing and my boating is done until spring lol. You should start posting videos to your channel. I'd love to see some Cali blue cats!
I would for sure, except I wore the remote around my neck on a lanyard on my old boat. Now, I've always got a gopro on my chest so I haven't figured out the best situation for that lol thanks for watching!
I want to thank you. You are my first criticizing comment🙂. I apologize for the poor footage as I have only been filming around 8 months and will improve over time. I think you should subscribe so you can let me know how I'm doing along the way.

I can't begin to explain how awesome spot lock is...especially for throwing a jerkbait in the wind. Thanks for the support, much appreciated 🙏
Very nice. I need one of them trolling motors for the bigger lake that I fish. thank you for the video.
Spot lock is a thing of beauty lol

Awesome toy for the boat! I wish I had one with spot lock for my tiny kayak 😂👍
Right?! Spot lock on a kayak would not suck! Lol

It makes your spot lock way more accurate also so that’s not the only thing it does hotrod
@@trumpking4874 nope. Its Only a compass that tells your TM which way the bow is pointing, for the jog feature.......hot rod lol
It's probably not due to the heading sensor but i had a pre 2014 model Terrova on my previous boat and this one keeps a much tighter spot lock radius.
@@Midwesthookset yes the newer ones post 2017 are a million times better

Does the spot lock work better after calibrating it? Mine is pretty sporadic but I haven’t calibrated it .
Not really sure since I calibrated mine before I tried it out. I will say that it does a noticeably better job than the old 2014 model I had before.
