I got married when I was 2 years older than you and he was in the Air Force, our first assignment was anchorage Alaska . Talk about culture shock! I was so homesick! I don’t have family in amarillo now my mom passes in 2015 so that was the last time I was there. I miss the snow amarillo gets too! I live in biloxi Mississippi now and it’s so hot and humid here!

And yes I also love the snow that Amarillo get around January or February. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to go back to Amarillo for Christmas but I heard there was no snow this Christmas in Amarillo. I’m a sucker for snow I’m just nervous once winter rolls around here in NYC it’s going to be very hectic!😂...Tascosa Rebel for life!👈🏼👆🏼👉🏼. Rebel Strong!💪🏽...Hope you have a happy New Years Sherry😃

      Back in the 60's & 70's, the Dumas Highway connected with the Canyon 'E-Way' through 2 of these streets. There was lots of traffic back then! Down Town had 24 hour restaurants & motels! Then, they built a loop around it. So sad!

    Damn, despite being smaller than Lubbock, Amarillo actually has the feel of a real city center unlike its bland depressed neighbor to the south. It reminds me of Fort Worth and that's a good thing. Very nice for a small city!! Amarillo should have gotten Texas Tech. Makes me want to visit. Cheers from New York.

    The video is awesome and I like the uniqueness of the area especially around Palo Duro Canyon, so all in all the Amarillo area is ok I guess. It has the old west look & feel; plus it doesn't have that hustle & bustle of cities like Dallas & Houston.

    I agree with some of the other commenters, compared to other west texas/panhandle cities....this looks pretty nice. Unlike Lubbock, at least Amarillo has some street-level businesses downtown and some lights...I want to move to a smaller Texas community, but I hate how all the downtowns are so dead, old and spread out....Corpus Christi is an example, I've considered moving there but the downtown just looks like a boom-town gone dead.

    • @lesliehoward4268
      @lesliehoward4268 3 роки тому +2

      This was at 7:30 pm. Most of the business people have left downtown after work. This video doesn't show all the activity going on in the clubs and restaurants on Polk St. Granted it was a weeknight and it does look pretty "dead" if it was a Friday or Saturday night you'd see a lot more activity. (Before covid 19) Downtown Amarillo has done a lot in last decade to "revitalize" the downtown area and compared to before that it is a marked improvement. I was project chair in college in which we surveyed a sampling of Amarilloans collecting opinions and Ideas about the future of downtown in about 1995 or 1996 and we met with "Center City Downtown Revitalization" Organ- ization and they decided to "help" revitalize Amarillo downtown. It may have taken longer than they anticipated but now there is considerably more things available such as housing, clubs, restaurants. The streets and sidewalks are clean, in good shape and well lit for pedestrians. Except for a few areas along the tracks its considerably safer than most downtown areas of other cities. All that being said..this is just the downtown area..Amarillo is very spread out and there is usually a good variety of things to do every weekend no matter your interests you'll be able to do something different most weekends of the year. I moved away 2008 but Im close enough and there enough to see Amarillo continue grow and see businesses there adapt and evolve to attract the growing population. It had a population boom before I moved and I was working for a residential builder where we saw a significant surge of transplants making Amarillo their new home for many different reasons. Its not NYC , LA or even DFW...but for around 250k population it still has a small town feel. You can feel safe in most areas, find a decent selection of goods and services, actually know your neighbors and for the most part get a bigger return from your community than what you put into it. Most of the people are really friendly and we have some of the most beautiful sunsets a person could ever see. I haven't been to Amarillo as much this past year due to covid 19 but I feel safe in assuming it hasn't suffered near as bad as a lot of other cities across the nation in the past year. And yes..I believe even with covid there's still decent job opportunities( probably not a dream job right now- but a job) somewhere doing something. I lived there for over 30 years from sixth grade til almost 50 years old and Amarillo will always be home to me and I will always be proud to be from the Texas Panhandle.

    They goofed up and put a baseball field in center city. Traffic is bad enough before it was built. Tearing down historic buildings to build parking lots and overpriced hotels. Not very smart. There is thousands of acres of land out on the lakeside loop for things like this without disrupting traffic. Get Smart, Amarillo...this isn't working well.

      I was in Amarillo a couple of months ago driving around at 4-5pm around downtown and on the freeways, there was no "rush hour" as most cities have.

      It's not boring. Forgive me, I live in this place, it is super cheap and relaxing because being a small city we all feel like family. I have been living here for 8 years before I lived in Puerto Rico and then in Phoenix Arizona. nothing better than living. boring is one who wants to live boring as you do not speak without knowing and without visiting the city. It is very quiet. If you want to live with noises and savagery, go visit a jungle .. trip in that Street to day. U need see the difference...

      Nice and peaceful. Not like the places all those crazy libs come from with crackhead infested, crime spree, dirty needle littered, burning buildings, child shooting filled places where elderly people are beaten.
