One of my favorite "Choices/Karma" incidents in Pulp Fiction is where Travolta disrespects Bruce Willis in the bar immediately after Willis makes the deal with Marcellus Wallace. Vega does it because he already knows who Butch is and why he's there, or at least knows that no boxer with integrity would be taking envelopes of cash from Wallace. Butch deserves no respect from him and he lets Butch know that. Butch is stunned with the realization that he has just lost his honor. I believe this moment is where Butch decides to screw Marcellus over to recover his honor. And later, Karma comes back around to Vega when Butch, given the choice to shoot Vega or not thinks about it for a second and pulls the trigger.

+Kharimi Nougat You got that last part wrong . It was due to the sudden noise of the bread toaster he ACCIDENTALLY shoots Vincent .

    • @willbond

Sure, the toaster triggered it, but Butch was gonna have to do it, and afterwards didn't feel bad about it at all.

One of my favorite quotes from Pulp Fiction was when Jules has Pumpkin at gun point at the restaurant, Jules says: "Yolanda, I thought you said you were gonna be cool. Now when you yell at me, it makes me nervous. And when I get nervous, I get scared. And when motherfuckers get scared, that's when motherfuckers accidentally get shot!"
Ironically, Jules partner who doesn't believe in Divine Intervention suffers that very same fate. Butch got scared by the noise of the pop-tarts that he accidentally killed Vincent. I doubt Butch had the intentions to kill Vincent, Just like he didn't mean to kill the boxer, but fuck it though.

Neither of the people he killed would be considered murder. A man died as a result of a boxing match, something that's reasonable common, and Butch killed a man who was trespassing in his home with an intent to kill him. The only thing he did that was morally wrong was reneging on his deal with Marcellus, and Butch redeems himself for that by going back to rescue Marcellus from the rapists.

Butch knows Vince is Marcellus's man. They met each other in front of "Paul." The Ingram M10 Butch kills Vince with has been said to be Marcellus's gun left there when he went to get doughnuts. Edit: And Marcellus had already spotted Butch.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. Furthermore, if your job is to go and kill someone, and you get (literally) caught with your pants down on the job, having left the weapon you intend to kill the guy with out of reach where the intended target can casually pick it up, then you pretty much deserve to get splattered. That's how I read it. I assume the other characters would see it the same way for the most part.
Same way that De Niro's character in Jackie Brown gets what was coming to him ("Yo ass used to be beautiful!") - he was not behaving like a pro.
One of the things I love about Tarantino films is that as far as I have been able to tell, people who do not act professionally or in-line with the code they have accepted tend to suffer the consequences. Mr Pink is the only one who survives Reservoir Dogs because he is the only one that never drops his guard, and never forgets it is all a job where they should be acting like professionals.

Marsellus and Vince were friends so of course Vince wouldn't refuse, especially because if he did he'd probably get in trouble with Marsellus. He dies because he chooses to keep the Gangster life, unlike Jules who quits it. He has 2 miracles happening to him that are a way of warning him, which are the bullets that didn't hit him nor Jules and that he was able to save Mia before she died and without Marsellus knowing (which is a miracle because someone who OD's usually doesn't last that long to be saved like Mia did). Even with these miracles he decides to keep his life, unlike Jules who redeems himself after the bullets event. The fact that Mia survives the Overdose was also a warning for her; that miracle was a way/warning for her to quit doing drugs. Pumpkin and Honey Bunnie are also affected by a miracle, which is being spared by Jules, who actually states that if it weren't for the events that happened to him in that morning, Pumpkin and Honey Bunnie would be dead; this miracle was also a way for them to redeem themselves and according to the logic of what happened to Vince, they would later die if they didn't redeem themselves (stop committing robberies).

None of the people he killed would be considered murder though. The boxer died as a result of injuries sustained in the ring, and no foul play was involved. He killed Vincent and Maynard in self defense(and the defense of another in the latter case). None of these situations would be considered murder in any court, and it's not morally reprehensible to kill someone who's a direct, immediate threat to your or another's life. The boxer that died after the match was just an unfortunate accident.

@acdc10133 No I despise cheesy actions and slapstick comedy. However I despise Tarantino's films much more. They do not have a distinct style. People only go for them under the "assumption" that they are good. Seriously, watch one of his films closely without going into it with the premise that it will be good. You will find that the plot is dull and the story is simple. The acting is the only thing that saves some of his films. Don't get me started on Inglorious Basterds, worst film ever made!!
