The museum is fantastic and well worth a visit. There are two great places to eat in Ocotillo: Red Feather Market and Cafe and The Great Escape. We often stop in for a bite when we're in the area for dirt bike riding.
Il va être dans la liste de site à visiter pour découvrir le sud de la Californie. Hâte de reprendre l'avion pour découvrir ou redécouvrir encore votre immense pays.
i’ve driven to SD from Colorado many many times & have never stopped. Always wondered about these stops and attractions. Thanks so much for sharing. You’re efforts and hard work don’t not go unnoticed. Thank you.
Spanish Galleon in the Desert. I first heard this was in Lake Manning in Death Valley. With no access to the ocean, i concluded it was just another urban legend. It's funny how this is repeated for Lake Cahuilla. Although this was feed from the Colorado River which did also flow to the sea, it began drying up about 2000 years ago and by the time the Spanish arrived it was a dry lake bed and was called the Salton Sink. Salt was harvested from here and sold to LA in those pioneer days 1850's to no later than 1905 when it was flooded and became the Salton Sea. Palm Spring is in the Coachella Valley which is named in Spanish for the Conch shell found along the prehistoric lake shore. While i am at it Check out Coachella Valley Preserve - Thousand Palms Oasis Preserve, and the San Andreas Oasis (33.496928617434484, -115.85031441183882). Out of Banning, Bradshaw ran a desert. stage route. Also of interest in the East Salton Sea Area is Ladder and Painted Canyons (33.6243342134516, -115.99645150284984)
So many local points of interest never knew existed before watching your videos. Been to several of the places you have featured here because most are a few hours or less away. I live a few miles from the Murphy canyon road you featured and went to check it out for myself within minutes of watching.
OMG.. the memories of Ocotillo! We used to ride out I-8 all the time to camp and fly model rockets off of S-2. I've moved away but remember much of the sights and all the cactus!
If your travels ever take you to the high desert, in Antelope Valley just north of Lake Los Angeles is the Antelope Valley Indian Museum. Its only open on weekends but if you have the chance its worth your time. Similar to the Imperial museum, it has artifacts from an area with a long history. Check before you go, with Covid hours, ya' never know.
That sounds amazing. Going to add it to our list of places to check out for sure. Hoping to check out the Ridge Route later this year so maybe can swing by there too if its open.
@@SidetrackAdventures We did the Ridge Route when we lived out there. If you have a 4X4 there are great spots, if not, its still easy to run. You can't help but wonder what it was like in a Model T. It took a few days just to get to Bakersfield. Easy going now. Enjoy!!
This reminds me of the Maturango Museum in Ridgecrest, CA off the 395. Super cool, small, all about local history, so next time your near there definitely recommend a visit. Also nearby is Randsburg, a "living ghost town." Awesome video!
Your videos are awesome and really well put together. I’m in east San Diego and spend a lot of time out east, ocotillo, Sunrise, Buckman……etc. If you have not done it yet I think you would like the 74 Pines to Palms highway. We drive that way once a summer down to Palm Desert. 79 to 371 to 74. From the 74 down to Palm Desert has a great lookout over the Palm desert areas.
when I was a kid there was a massive flood that ripped through Ocotillo if i remember right there was 4 or 5 people that lost their lives in that I'm not sure but I think it was like 1976 or 77.
yes indeed the big hurricane I think it was called Katherine they had rebuild the whole highway and the train tracks got washed out poor Ocotillo got washed down the flood I'm glad it's back on their feet. for a real Joy check out their little Cactus Circle in the middle of their town it's a secret spot so fun
Very interesting, thank you. Strange about the Spanish Galleon, I heard a Spanish Galleon actually ended up in the Salton Sea from the Gulf of California and had to wait for 30 days till the next full Moon for a High tide to get out and back in the Gulf of California. The information actually said which Spanish explorer but I can't remember.
What a fantastic museum! Reminds me of several that we have here in AZ but condensed into a mini scaled location. The abandoned buildings look interesting too. Would love to poke around them if they weren't fenced off. 😅
There are some pretty massive holes in the fence if someone really wanted to get a closer look. Plenty of non-fenced abandoned buildings in the area too.

Have eaten at Red Feather but not The Great Escape. Will check it out on our next visit.

Haven't been out that way since the 70s. Thanks for the tour.

That is so great to hear. So many hidden gems in the area. Thank you for the kind words.

Yes, it destroyed a lot of the old Highway 80 through the mountains too.

I haven't been there in years but it's a cool place.
We've been wanting to go for awhile but they just recently reopened from a pandemic shutdown.
It’s where I relax at the Lazy Lizard Lounge 🐸
Working in SD for years from WI, that place was the only place that felt like home the entire time I was in CA.
Snake in the dessert, having a drone may have enhanced the land so you can see it.
I actually had my drone but didn't want to fly it in the heat.
If you're ever doing a video in the Spring Valley area shoot me an email, I might like to meet up
