Too far from best EV. Nice car yes, not bad EV yes but too far from best EV from the point of EV metrics. Just consumption/efficiency is just bad which excludes it from the "best" EV. Compared to other EVs it has worse EV metrics as well just make the effort and compare it.

Love all the snow, even if the road was snowy I'm sure Norwegian road maintenance has plenty of snow ploughs to deal with the problem unlike say if this was the UK. Bjorn has already proven driving an EV vs Petrol the times are pretty much identical. He did the petrol test in a Porsche think a couple years ago now.

Yoloing EQS in winter - nice! ☺️
Remember to let the car intelligence do the charging planning (and maybe edit charger by hand) for proper preheating to get the 200 kW. At least that is what I understand from Bjørn's tests.

Checking the S580 4MATIC Limo technical data: V8 engine, 503PS, 76l fuel tank and for the sake of argument - 11l/100km fuel consumption (it is stated 10-11.3l/100km) gives a range of 690km before stopping is needed. Sure, not many would drive 690km without stopping at all, but it is still fully possible. And this is worst case. The 400d has a range of 850km.So, to say that the EQS is close to the ICE cars in range it strictly not true. I know many other factors are in play, but comparing like for like - the ICE cars still lead. By a lot. And, for me personally, once you’re out of range in an ICE car, it takes less than 5min to add another 690km of range.
Disclaimer: I have both types of propulsion in my stable, so I have personal experience. Both types have advantages, both have disadvantages. neither do the full job.

EQS dies not preheat the battery. I’m currently sitting at a 350kW that I navigated to after two hours of driving in 0c. My current charging speed after 10 minutes of charging is 147kW….

    • @neilrobinson7965

@@KrisRifa Björn found out that it is possible to preheat the battery, but you need to set the final destination of the trip into the navigation. If it can’t be reached without charging, it will then suggest the best charging stops and will preheat the battery ready for those charging stops. If you simply navigate to a charger, it won’t preheat.

Sadly a little disappointed with the range. As my leased car expires next year, I've started to look for alternatives. EV is the future (and the norwegian goverernment is pushing us as hard as they can down that road).
But still, long distance driving in hard conditions is what frightens me. I was hoping the likes of this car and the ix 50 would be the options to go, but it seems I might have to wait longer (and then miss out on the tax evasion).
Today I drove from Oslo to Trondheim, via Alvdal (RV3).
The part from Elverum to Berkåk was -10 c to -20 c - happy to see most chargers at Alvdal was free.
My PHEV has a small fueltank (42 L petrol) and it was not charged before leaving Oslo. I still arrived with a range of more than 200 km to go. The last part is not important, but my worry is if even the premium cars would have gotten me to the ionity charger at Alvdal with -20 c..? And with comfortable cabin temperatures and a buffer to spare, so I wouldn't be terrified of being stuck in a queue or anything.
Anyone to comment and make me relaxed to choose an EV next year? Making two stops from Oslo to Trondheim is not a preffered option

Your range test is the most confusing one.
What's wrong with a simple range test. When you charge it 100% . And go with standard speed 70 to 100 mile per hour. And see how far the car can go ? And compare it with others
