Haha good one . except they dont have to switch back to their old ID cause no one can stop calling them losira 😂. or something lile that. I actually think its been streaming on soop for a while . even if ot was called afreeca
AfreecaTV has rebranded as Soop (often styled SOOP). The AfreecaTV Starleague (ASL) is now the Soop Starleague (SSL). An international companion to the afreecatv website has launched called SOOP Live. (They are the first Google result.) I think SOOP Live will be centrally hosted, unlike the Afreeca platform which is mostly P2P, which has something to do with the different payment structure for the internet in South Korea. It's not clear which markets SOOP is trying to break into. Japan and Countries on the South China Sea seem like the obvious targets, and possibly the US, but I haven't heard anything really. I doubt many English-language sites are reporting on this.
In South Korea, companies rebrand more frequently than in most places. "Afreeca" (Any FREE CAsting) was seen as bad branding. They didn't say why, but the fact that it sounds a lot like "Africa" despite having nothing to do with it might have been a factor. Mergers are a normal reason to rebrand anyway. In the US, they would probably hang onto the AfreecaTV brand because they thought it was valuable, but in SK, they don't seem to value brand names as highly, and they rebranded. And TBH, I do agree that "AfreecaTV" was not the best possible brand name. But how they came up with "Soop" of all names, I can't say.
@@EebstertheGreat If it's any consolation, for a very long time before GSL the Starcraft competition was called SSL. Starcraft Starleague. The SSL was actually longer running than the GSL, or at least, had a longer history(though I'm sure the GSL surpassed it over the years, I don't recall). It's funny as the SSL was not casted by Dan and Nick but by two other guys whom I forget the name of right now. They were soft rivals and the Proleague was also more closely associated with SSL. Anyways that's just a fun bit of history. I think they mentioned it when first talking about the name but haven't since, which is too bad, as the SSL deserves to be remembered but I think the naming conventions confuse foreigners whereas this name will be more familiar to Koreans.
I don't think Africa was such a bad brand. I mean I got used of it. But yea if rebranding helps it's all good. I think they missed opportunity to rebrand themselves as Sup : p at least it would be funny.
As a GSL fan, most notifications from this channel are a disappointment. (Although I'm jealous you still get Artosis - State is good, probably my 3rd favourite, but Tastosis is still top 1 & 2)
@@blazingswordchad3384 - Who's turning it into a 'turf war'? Just because I'm into Sc2, and he's into Sc1, doesn't mean either of us dislike the other; we're just not into it enough to watch the pro leagues of each. What's wrong with that?
Companies really be out here erasing their brand recognition.
who knew that korean corporations had the same issue as korean starcraft players

Now people will go from confusing Afreeca for Africa, to confusing Soop for Soup.
As long as it has brood war casted by tasteless and artosis it can call itself whatever it wants
