quite the performance. Something you and I both could work on is buzzing the necessary pitch instantly, instead of glissing into it. This will get rid of some of the scoops in your notes and overall clean up your playing.

Hi!!! I play the tuba in Japan.
I surprised this video! Soooo excellent. And, I would like to play this song in my solo contest. So, I would like to know the highest tone.(for example, hi A or HiC.)
Please tell me the point of playing this song.
    Please reply this comment....

derara0722 Hello, thank you for your comment! I believe the highest note of this movement is E natural above the staff. The third movement, which I also recorded goes up to high G above that.

derara0722 As for the point of playing this piece, it is one of the tuba standards and a well known tuba concerto.

Thanks its has been helping and this might become a recital piece instead of a jury piece do you have any solos suggestions that I could try out and have for a rainy day or to fill up my rep for my recital years to come as well as in general

+Xavier Alexander I am glad to hear my comments have been helpful! As far as repertoire is concerned, feel free to check out any of my other videos as those are all great pieces in the tuba repertoire. If you have not performed them already, I would recommend pieces such as Lebedev's Concerto in One Movement (AKA Concerto No. 1), the Haddad Suite for Tuba, and Air and Bourree (which you can find a video of me performing on my channel from this same recital). If you are taking private lessons, I would suggest asking your teacher for repertoire suggestions as they know your playing best and can suggest pieces that will suit you. Thanks again for watching and for your comments!

Hi I'm a college freshman working on this piece and one thing I have particular trouble with is getting the trill to sound right. I thought your trill was good, any tips to make the trill sound good? Thanks!

Hi Isaiah! With this and most trills (although it does depend on the style of the piece), I like to start the trill slow and speed it up through the length of the note until it feels right. If you listen closely, that's how I approach this particular trill in performance. Listen to different recordings of the piece and find ones that you like and listen to how the approach the trill and try to match it. Try different approaches until you find the one that feels right for you!
I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Mr. Garavito I will playing this for my spring semester of my freshman year in college any tips on working this up? Especially have stability in the upper range since you make it sound so effortless.

+Xavier Alexander Thank you for your comment! The key to being able to play in the higher register is being comfortable playing up there. I like to work on my overall range with long tones. If I can hold a long note consistently with a good sound then I feel like I can comfortably say I have mastered the note. That way you also start feeling the tendencies of what your air needs to do (how much air you need, how fast the air needs to go, etc.). 90% of the time, the answer to "how do I make X sound better" is more air. Also, remember to stay relaxed while playing in any register. A good sound requires you to remain relaxed. As far as the technical stuff, definitely work the runs slowly before you play them faster. If you want them to sound good fast they have to sound good slow. It should be so clear when playing slowly that if you were to record it and speed up the audio, it sounds great no matter how fast you speed it up. It takes patience but it is the most effective way to practice fast passages.
I hope this information helps a bit! It is very general stuff that can be applied to anything you play and it is stuff that I (and most) work on all the time.
