As a Light Novel reader I have to say that this first episode was adapted great. There were some very minor skips and changes, but there was also some added anime original content (which usually isn't a good thing but here it's kinda needed). I hope the adaptation quality continues to be as good. If it's done well, then your questions will be answered sooner or later.
As a historian, I really loved this first episode because the "show don't tell" of this series makes for an interesting analysis, namely about the state of the country. The initial propaganda seems very surreal and reminds me of Nazi Propaganda about their Wunderwaffen at the end the war. I start noticing interesting hints when Annette and Lena's scene where they talk about being forced to eat artificial food regularly as well as eggs and milk being rationed. That's generally not a good sign when contrasted with overly positive propaganda about glorious victories. It's even fishier when you realize that Lena and Annette are both high ranking people and still have trouble getting real food.
Also as someone who read the first volume of the light novel, they definitely went all out with the show don't tell approach. Originally in the LNs, there were a ton of details about the world, the characters, etc. given to us in this beginning section of the story that were delivered as monologues. However while they haven't given us all of the details yet, especially about the enemy, I really appreciate this more subtle approach. Because from what I've seen and remember from the LNs, if you can put two and two together there are quite a few things that you can figure out on your own from this episode alone.
I read the LN a while back. Glad to see this animated & scored by the legend Sawano. Definitely the guy for the tone of this story. This Anime will show the world that at least someone in the Anime industry gets WWII and it's so relevant especially today. It even does so without beating it over your head.
I am glad to hear your honest thoughts about 86 at first sight. You really interpreted the anime well for the first episode.I also had the same thoughts with you when I watched the first episode. I really enjoyed the episode, and it's definitely going on my watch list. I doubt we're dealing with altered humans or A.I.; just a not so subtle send-up of the homogeneity of Japan.
I have a feeling it will be a case of the have/have nots, basically meaning that the high ranking military are the "upper class" and are told the "drones" are just machines. That being said I have a feeling the Undertaker/Reaper (I'm guessing one in the same??) has a way to tap in and show those giving the commands what is really happening, this would explain the turnover of commanders for the unit. I'm anime only as well but that is the working theory without looking up any info on the series, but I will be waiting to see how it goes.

that first bit you talked about, hit the nail right on the head for the series Mushoku for me. It relies heavily on Show don't tell and leaves out alot of the finer details I learned about reading the web novels. I don't think they explained things well as Mushoku has alot of things in it's world that requires explanation over showing, such as Adventure guild rules which were never mentioned in the anime until Horse dude said they were breaking rules, Alot of these rules were explained in the novels when they applied to be adventurers. Just as an example, other things that were hard to pick up on were that in the beginning when he was in his world his ribs were broken which contributed to his inability to speak properly while also his voice wasn't working properly from not using it in so long, also that the people who kicked him out were his siblings. The Anime didn't do a good job explaining things, I've found recently the series is mostly showy, the Animation is good, the character designs are nice, the music is good, the Story telling is sub par which is sad cause I'd put the story telling in the novels on One Piece's level.
Let’s not forget 86’d is a slang term often meaning to shoot down, to throw out, to kill, or to bury (origins for the term aren’t clear). The country seems to be like the ideals of nazi Germany where all the “humans” are deemed pure and the “inhuman” people of 86 are corrupted in some way. Be it possible health problems or just being a different ethnicity or different characteristics.
This is also a guess on my part but it seems to be the logical situation to me. The society and looks of the areas remind me a bit of man in the high castle which makes me think even more that this is supposed to resemble the Nazi Germany ideals just inside of blue eyes and blonde hair it is blue eyes and white hair.
People probably already mentioned this, or already knew, but 86 or something being 86’d means to be rejected or discarded. My prediction is that this place is like the country in the book “The Giver”. The country controls everything and the “86” is the kids that were born that didn’t look how they were supposed to (white hair etc.) Looking forward to this show.
86 reminded me of Gundam Iron Blooded Orphan. Both anime has the story that the rich don't really treat the poor as human and both main female lead showed empathy toward the poor. I like the ost and the 2D mecha more in IBO, but the character animation are slightly better in 86. The CGI mecha is actually better than what I expected, but I still love 2D mecha more than 3D mecha. I can't wait to watch more about 86 in the future.
Considering the light novel series has very high ratings generally, and good reviews as a very general consensus, I think I have faith that if the anime adapts it perfectly its probably going to be good.

I mean people might consider this episode boring which will just drop it without giving any chance, but I’m glad Chiba is sticking to it. Plus, Hiroyuki swano is involved ;)
So, my speculations and brainstorming as an anime only after the first episode: -Gives me a similar feeling to attack on titans Marley situation, but more in a reverse sense. -The advances society where everybody looks similar lives in their perfect little closed off world and have no worries. -On the outside are "normal" people (humans, cyborgs, etc ?) who (have to) sacrifice themselfs in the war, and they are not treated as casualties, meaning they hold no value to the people in the city. Its propably somewhat kept secret from the public aswell. -So in essence a story about discrimination and "racism" kind of (not in a bad sense), where a group of people get exploited by a higher standing group of people. and our main character gets deeper and deeper involved with them to the point where she wants to be on their side and antagonize her own people.

Esdesth in the house!
this show is very mature.... Dark ....and interesting
I have heard about this ln so many freaking times but i stopped myself from reading it so i could watch the anime with first experience
This really reminds me of the start of Code geass akito the exiled , the themes and the stances of the main character are really similar.
Considering the light novel series has very high ratings generally, and good reviews as a very general consensus, I think I have faith that if the anime adapts it perfectly its probably going to be good.
Hey Chibi have u kept up or plan on catching up with UnOrdidary ? I was a little curious bc I watched the vids u did on it a while back and I think the story is going in a really interesting direction
I am caught up to the webtoon right now. Loving the direction with John
The story is on a decline
@@ihatepower4580 story is going for a redemption/character building for John and Sera recovering her power, the fuck you mean decline? Though I do hope he becomes more of a villain for the villains than a “gotta save everyone because I’m a good guy now” hero, my own opinion though.
@@Kaizer_Crown nah he's abandoning the person who did everything was and is shit.
@@ihatepower4580 ok
I love that the high class people are all White Haired,
The Actuall Pilots are the Lower Class Citizens that aren't considered as Human
It's not really Original but it is Intruiging nonetheless
I mean people might consider this episode boring which will just drop it without giving any chance, but I’m glad Chiba is sticking to it. Plus, Hiroyuki swano is involved ;)
Try watching Slime Taoshite 300nen
Blue eyes white dragon?
Pretty boy detective club really has that studio shaft and Nishio Issin in there, u should check it
Shadows House when?
ITZ A-1 PICZ BIGGEST PROJECT I HAVE HEARD!!!!!!
So, my speculations and brainstorming as an anime only after the first episode:
-Gives me a similar feeling to attack on titans Marley situation, but more in a reverse sense.
My main concern with this is that it is animated by A1 Pictures. Their track record isn't really the best.
There’s no studio with a perfect track record
Well, any concern now?
For some reason I got Iron Blooded Orphans vibes. Enjoyed it though!
honestly a really strong start
6:10 sounds like some Eldian treatment
Really interested in where this anime is going.
Chibi how can you read and answer youtube comments on your videos and not fear getting spoiled, the last few days I’ve been anxious reading comments and never sorted by new or read replies fearing I would get AoT spoiled
Its a great story.. but LN is amazing
Fact. The V.A for Shin also plays Ayanokouji from Classroom of the Elite
i feel like watching a gundam Series, love the politic and war.
This series is giving me Gundam 00 vibes and I love it
